Construction of Phase II of the Craig F. Goess Student Center is nearing completion. PCC administrators anticipate the project, which began in May, to be finished sometime next month. Designed by Greenville’s JKF Architecture and built by Greenville-based Hudson Brothers Construction, the additional 15,000 square feet will house the college's bookstore and a variety of services, including a career center, computer lab, student lounge and conference rooms.
The bridge that separates one side of our town from the other has been under construction for almost a year now. While the construction crews have been doing their best I am sure, the construction has made life very hard on the local businesses, especially the ones we like best - the independantly owned Mom & Pop type businesses. Our favorite ice cream place is in the building on left edge of the frame - hidden from view by 2 ginormous rusty steel I-beams that are being used to stabilize the bridge. The ice cream shop has been closed now for 2 months. Normally they take a month off in January since the tourist traffic is so light and the cold weather for some reason locals eat less ice cream. This year they have been closed for 2 months so far, with no indication they will be opening anytime soon. Ah well, it is still an interesting engineering undertaking, so I shot an HDR image of it to try and capture more of the dynamic range of shadows and highlights.
