The manufacture of gunpowder first involved charcoal and sulphur being ground to a fine consistency in a Safe House. The resulting mixture was taken to the Mixing House where saltpetre was added. Mixed together these ingredients produced what was known as a "green charge". This dangerous mixture was then taken to one of seven pairs of Incorporating Mills where millstones, powered by an overshot waterwheel between each pair of mills, ground and mixed the green charge to a fine powder ready for further processing elsewhere in the works.

SIDE NOTE: I'm very discouraged and in a bad mood today... this is my rant. I understand one day, eventually, I will get better but, it's been almost 4 months now and getting better is.... well, not in my super near future. I feel like everything that I want to do and love is being ripped from me. All because a little disc that's out of place. I can't kiss, rub my lips together for chapstick or lick my lips w/o being in pain... that's how bad this dumb thing is.
Let see... me in a nutshell:
Fav. Candy - Air Heads, peppermint bark, lavender chocolate truffles
Fav. Dessert - Creme Brulee, Tiramisu
Fav. type of food - Chinese - the real kind and the Americanized... LOVE Bok Choy. Panda express is disgusting and doesn't count though....
Fav. Meal - Something with seafood... having a hard time deciding here but... Originally from Florida and baby, I like my fish, shrimp, crab and lobster. Possibly pan fried scallops and a nice small salad... sooooooooo good when done right.
Fav. Snack - Peaches, granny smith apples, grapes, power bars (I know lol), Brazilian nuts, Almonds or raw spanish peanuts, english muffin toasted w butter and honey...
Fav. Drink - Arnold Palmer (half Iced tea, half lemonade) or anything with pomegranate.
Fav. Alcoholic drink - Old Rasputin's Russian Imperial Stout OR Red Wines- a nice Syrah or Tempranillo - something spicy but w/o a dry after taste.
Fav. things to do - Act, Improvisation, Singing, Krav Maga (high impact martial arts...) , Photography/modeling for my own photos, crochet.
Personality- sometimes bubbly but... easily put down. Self esteem- mediocre.
NOW LET'S SEE........ ME W TMJ:
At this point in time I'm not able to eat anything over the consistency of Apple Sauce w/o getting a headache. I couldn't eat a power bar if my life depended on it. I tried to eat 1 tortilla chip the other day and I thought I might die lol. Soooo I can eat... my deserts, the creme brulee only if it's not bruleed lol. I can eat fish if done right.... People don't understand there's something wrong w me because I look fine on the outside. The only thing that's changed is physically about me is that I've lost about 15 pounds. I can't do Krav because of muscle spasms in my neck and shoulder that are being caused by the tmj plus, in order to take class I need something more substantial to eat than a smoothie. I used to have to eat 300-400 cal before class and the same after.. it's like bootcamp for an hour... I'm not allowed to take class because it's high impact and my joints are so unstable at the moment that if accidentally hit in the face I could end up w/ a disc slipped all the way forward which would be VERY bad... my chances of getting better would much go down the shitter.
When I get better I will not be allowed (HIGHLY DISCOURAGED) to eat anything chewy or hard to chew. Good bye airheads, powerbars, gum and caramel....
I'm not supposed to eat anything very hard this list includes:
nuts, apples (tg for apple sauce) , hard breads, biscotti... you catch my drift.
Singing is highly discouraged because you aren't supposed to keep your mouth open for long periods of time or open it wide and singing lends towards that.
My doctor has told me NOT to talk right now... most of the things I like to do... I can't. Talking literally hurts my face :( so, until I get better speaking is a minimum... It causes a headache that vicodin can barely cure. Not talking will help me heal quicker but... I'm just so miserable and.. it's hard to have friends when you can't talk. I'm starting to think I should go learn sign language and hang out w deaf people (I DO NOT mean that to be offensive towards deaf people). At least I'd have a way of talking to people.
Now, I understand that things could be worse and things will get better but... most ppl w tmj have a "flare up" for a week or two (unless they're really hurt) and it's been 4 months. sigh fml. I just really want to get better. I can't even get a job or something like that at the moment because I can't talk. I don't think I could tell my manager... "hey I'm sorry but... it just hurts to much to talk to customers right now... peace out..." lol.
I'm pissed, upset, I don't know what I did to have this problem.

Leica x1
After a long period of telephoto stuff i think it's time to come back to the Leica x1, again. i don't think i'm able to keep a long consistency with one single system anyway. i should take that as a healthy sign.
Hi Everyone....its been a long hot busy summer. Now its time to get the Stopshot going again. I worked on this last night and am getting better at the consistency thing right. 2 Speedlights bihind the drops behind plexi. Triggered using Stopshot. PLease feel free to comment....both positive and negative....I can take it. I will be posting my new setup in the coming weeks.
Wow. It feels so good to go outside and take some pictures for once. I really forgot how much I loved shooting pieces like this.
Sorry for the long stretches without photos. I know I say that much too often on here, but it's true. I've been working really hard to get to the root of my inconsistency and fear of committing myself to things (coughphotographycough), and I'm really hopeful that next year will be the start of the most consistency my stream has seen since my 365.

The Rinkusteinar are another one of those interesting spots in the Faroe Islands I happened across while navigating through Google Maps looking for nooks I had not explored. These two massive boulders are located in a quiet little village on the island of Eysturoy. They perpetually rock with the motion of the waves and have done so for years and years, never eroding away. The local legend (always read the plaque) explains how two pirate ships constantly raided the villages here until a local sorceress cursed them into boulders, condemned to spend an eternity rocking in the surf near the towns they stole from. These days the boulders are connected to the shore by a chain and their constant motion is most easily seen by watching the up and down motion of the chain as it is pulled taut then goes slack with the boulders' rocking.
I tried a couple different long exposures here: one quite long (a minute or so) and the other much shorter (about 10 seconds) as I was not entirely sure how the constant motion of the rocks would translate. Turns out the shorter exposure worked much better as the long exposure simply makes it look like I missed focus on the boulders. It was a neat detour and I enjoyed sitting here watching the chain swing up and down with a metronome's consistency while listing to the whisper the boulders make as they rock.

Far best to be zoned out when dealing with the zone system... at least I think so.
Although there are many adherents to the zone system (I read extensively about it in the olden days when I had a darkroom and did my own black and white prints but have largely forgotten much of it), I found that whilst it took the photographic process to a very high technical level of consistency, it was time consuming and quite frankly boring: printing, reprinting, recording developing times, dodging and burning times through various masks and filters etc. then doing it all over again. Maybe it's less of an aggravation in a digital world, but I made hundreds of prints trying to get that one "perfect print".
I commend Ansel Adams who used an 8x10 camera and was making photos that were huge in size, for his perfectionism about the final result. For me and my 8"x10" pictures of trees, cars buildings and assorted people, not so critical.

Napoleon Pastries (Mille-feuilles)
First: !/2 lbs puff pastry (phyllo dough/pâte feuilletée)
Pastry Cream (Crème pâtissière)
Icing
Fruit preserve or jam
Chocolate Drizzle Topping: (1 ½ Tbspoon melted semi-sweet chocolate)
1. Pastry:
Preheat your oven to 375° F (180° C).
Roll out the puff pastry dough into an elongated rectangle the thickness of a thin piece of cardboard. With a sharp knife, cut the dough into nine equal-sized pieces.
Transfer the dough to a baking pan (or pans) lined with parchment paper and pierce the dough all over with a fork.
Cover the dough with another sheet of parchment paper and place another baking pan on top to weigh down the dough as it bakes.
Bake the dough, about 25 minutes. Remove the top layer of parchment paper and pan and bake five minutes longer to let the dough golden.
Transfer the dough to racks. Separate each piece into two with the tip of a knife or prongs of a fork. Let cool completely.
2. Crème pâtissière:
2 cups milk
5 egg yolks
8 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons flour
3 tablespoons corn starch
1 teaspoon vanilla or almond flavoring.
In a medium-sized saucepan, heat the milk until very warm.
While the milk is heating, mix the egg yolks and sugar together in a large bowl, then whisk in the flour and cornstarch until the mixture is smooth.
Gradually whisk the hot milk into the egg mixture and pour back into the saucepan.
Place over medium heat, stirring or whisking constantly until the mixture thickens.
Remove the pastry cream from the heat and add vanilla flavoring.
Place a layer of plastic wrap directly on the surface of the pastry cream to avoid a skin forming, and leave to cool.
The pastry cream can be refrigerated for up to several days until needed.
Glaze:
2 cups confectioner’s sugar
2 tablespoon light corn syrup
2 tablespoons hot water
In a medium mixing bowl stir ingredients together. If needed, stir in a few additional drops of water to make a glaze of spreading consistency; set aside.
Assemble and Decorate the Napoleons/Mille-Feuilles
Spread about 1 teaspoon of the raspberry or strawberry jam or preserves on each bottom layer.
Spread about 1 1/2 tablespoons of the pastry cream over raspberry preserves.
Top with middle pastry layer and more pastry cream.
Top with last pastry layer.
Pour the icing over the top layer of pastry and spread it evenly.
Next, working quickly, drizzle the chocolate across the surface of the icing in evenly-spaced, four parallel lines.
With the tip of a thin, sharp knife, make evenly-spaced perpendicular "cuts" through the lines of chocolate. -Allow an hour or two to chill before serving.

Panicking for an easy recipe for a last minute Christmas party? This is the one for you. Making bark is incredibly simple and always a favourite with guests (or unsuspecting neighbours who walk by).
I took the lazy way out and melted the chocolate in a microwave rather than pulling out my double boiler, but hey lazy works sometimes.
Need the recipe? Here you go:
Ingredients
- 12 ounces of white chocolate, broken into pieces and divided in two
- 6 ounces of semi-sweet or dark chocolate broken into pieces
(yes, you can use chocolate chips, but that effects the taste and melting consistency, I'd recommend using a higher end brand, I used Baker's)
- 1/4 (x2) teaspoons of peppermint extract
- 3 candy canes, crushed (you could get away with one or two if you don't have three hanging off your tree)
Directions
1. Line an 8 inch square baking pan with parchment paper or aluminium foil, smoothing out any wrinkles. (Honestly, this is the most difficult part of the entire recipe)
2. Melt the first batch of white chocolate. *Note* if you're using the microwave, do so in 15 second bursts. Microwave for 15 seconds, stir with a rubber spatula after each burst of heat. Continue until chocolate is completely melted.
3. Remove from microwave and mix in 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint extract.
4. Pour melted chocolate into the baking pan and spread into a thin layer.
5. Place in the fridge or freezer for 15-20 minutes to harden the chocolate. *Note* You do not want to pour the next layer while the first layer is still warm, the colours of chocolate will blend together and you'll end up with either a diluted brown or swirls.
6. Melt the semi-sweet or dark chocolate in the same manner as you did for the white chocolate.
7. Mix in 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint extract.
8. Pour melted chocolate into the baking pan and spread into a thin layer.
9. Place in fridge or freezer for 15-20 minutes.
10. Melt the other 6 ounces of white chocolate in the same way as you have before.
11. Spread melted chocolate into a final layer in the baking pan.
12. Sprinkle with crushed candy canes. (I put the candy canes into a ziplock baggie and crushed them with a rolling pin, but this was very loud so I wouldn't recommend doing this at 2 in the morning if you have neighbours nearby. I've also heard people use a food processor to simplify the process, so you could try that. Me, I like to save on dishes.)
13. Refrigerate until completely hardened then break into pieces or cut into squares. If you're going to cut the pieces, let the bark sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes to soften slightly.
You can freeze this if you're preparing ahead of time, or can be kept in the fridge for about three weeks.

I don't know how I feel about this but I just realized I haven't uploaded in almost a month! I'm really bad at taking pictures when I don't have a project to work on, I'm almost considering starting up another daily project just to gain some consistency.
I'm so tired of taking pictures of my face. If anyone would like to offer their face to me, especially if you live in the Queens NY area.... holllaaaaa. I will feed you. No joke.

I had a first stab at processing some from this set of images back in November and had the idea that it might be worth putting together a set. Since then, it’s been quite the challenge. There were a lot of images to wade through to find the ones that could make the cut. Getting a consistent tone across all the images is where it ended up being a much bigger task. Changing light conditions & consequent exposure when taking the images will have contributed, but I could not get a pre-set in LR that would fit all the images. Getting consistency meant individual image edits. The ‘look’ of the images ended up being driven partially by what I’d envisioned in the first place, but it was also dictated by Lightroom and the individual adjustments that allowed me to get the consistent tone and feel. Applying the chosen finish also then altered the dynamic of some of the images and meant I no longer liked some of the images that I’d selected to work on originally. This meant gong back over all the images again and again doing partial work-ups and re-assessing. Remind to me not to embark on something like this again. I just hope it was worth the effort. There is another potential set, where conditions were much brighter and gave images with a different feel, but I can’t see me putting the effort in … time will tell!
This MOC marks the beginning of a new era for me in terms of building. One that will be marked with higher quality pictures, greater attention to details, and also consistency.

Hector the Convector is a cumulonimbus thundercloud that forms regularly nearly every afternoon on the Tiwi Islands (90 km NNW of Darwin) in the Northern Territory of Australia, from approximately September to March each year.
Hector is known as one of the world's most consistently large thunderstorms, reaching heights of approximately 20 kilometres (66,000 ft).
Named by US and Australian airforce pilots during the Second World War, (who were attempting to defend Darwin against Japanese bombing) the recurring position of the thunderstorm made it a navigational beacon for pilots and mariners in the region.
Hector is caused primarily by a collision of several sea breeze boundaries across the Tiwi Islands and is known for its consistency and intensity. Lightning rates and updraft speeds are notable aspects of this thunderstorm and during the 1990s National Geographic magazine published a comprehensive study of the storm with pictures of damaged trees and details of updraft speeds and references to tornadic events.
