I love the shape and consistency of these “square” like flowers. I believe this is a dogwood tree but not certain. They always produce abundant white blossoms in late Spring, which means this species stands out at a time when most of nature’s colors are transitioning to shades of green.

I found this tussock moth caterpillar dangling from an invisible thread, swinging in the wind, curling and contorting. I had to use manual focus because it was too small in the frame for the camera’s sensors to find it with any consistency. Like photographing flying, diving puffins from a small rocking boat, I giggled as I lost and found the caterpillar passing by my lens, quickly focusing and following. There were a lot of images that went into the trash. And then there was this gem. Those feet are like little grabby booties!

One more with the dense fog in this nice beech wood from mid of September. I promise, the light is about to come back very soon! ;) Think it is more valuable to keep up the temporal consistency of the journey and how the seasons transform into each other, rather than mixing up the different months. One of the most iconic (and very tasty) dishes of the southern United States is shrimp and grits. A classic of Southern cuisine, the dish is found on menus at Michelin-starred restaurants and local holes in the wall alike throughout the Southern United States.
Nathalie Dupree, a noted Southern food writer and cooking show host, devoted her book Nathalie Dupree's Shrimp and Grits to some 60 variations of this one dish. Its opening line reads, "Shrimp and grits, one of the South's beloved foods, leaves a lingering taste and a folkloric mystique that borders on the mystical."
For the uninitiated, grits are a porridge that can vary in consistency and is made from boiled cornmeal.
This particular version was my lunch at Natty Greene’s Brewery In Greensboro, North Carolina. Highly recommended. [Edit: a previous version incorrectly stated that this photo was taken at Ceviche’s in Wilmington, NC, an excellent restaurant that also serves wonderful shrimp and grits, but not where this photo was taken].

Lactarius is a genus of mushroom-producing, ectomycorrhizal fungi, containing several edible species. The species of the genus, commonly known as milk-caps, are characterized by the milky fluid ("latex") they exude when cut or damaged. Like the closely related genus Russula, their flesh has a distinctive brittle consistency. It is a large genus with over 500 known species, mainly distributed in the Northern hemisphere. Recently, the genus Lactifluus has been separated from Lactarius based on molecular phylogenetic evidence.

I literally have to remind myself all the time
That being afraid of things going wrong isn't the way to make things go right
Wow...2021 was a challenging year; one of the hardest of my life. In the midst of a continuing pandemic, my brother was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in March. After a seven month deterioration of his health, he died on a Sunday in October...just one day before his 54th birthday. I remain heartbroken over his passing. He wanted to die at home, and I found myself care-taking for him and my aging parents; a role I was not prepared for but I took on nonetheless. Through this, I discovered a deeper sense of love for my family and a closeness I did not have before. The relationship with my parents has changed now that I am an only child. I always imagined that I would get old with my brother and we would take care of each other in our old age, but this was not meant to be. His death served as a reminder not to take life for granted. I say "I love you" more often now.
Speaking of love...another big change in my life has been a move into my partner's house. It's not just a house, but a home and a new life in a small town in Colorado with a unique culture all it's own. Just the kind of place I've always wanted to live in and I've been greeted with open arms by everyone I meet. In addition to the deepening love I have with my partner, I have two new people in my life now...her children. Two teenagers that have proven to be a delightful bonus to my living situation. Every day is filled with richness and brevity. I feel truly blessed.
Throughout the changes of my life this year, I also had the faithfulness and consistency of my core long-term friendships and son that recently turned 21. They combine to make me feel so very grateful for this wonderfully twisted, tragically painful, and divinely beautiful life.
To add to an already difficult year, we just experienced the horror and tragedy of a natural disaster very close to where we live. Many hundreds of homes lost in one afternoon. Hurricane force winds fueled an unstoppable wall of flames that spread like fingers across the landscape, consuming everything in it's path. Thankfully, we have received a snow storm to help the firefighters extinguish the last remaining embers. Unfortunately, the snow arrived just one day too late for the thousands of home & business owners effected by the blaze. I'll be donating to the Red Cross.
In regards to my creative output and photography this year…it has been a challenge to keep up, honestly. I wasn't as consistent as I was in years past, but I never gave up. Knowing that despite the lack of motivation, I'd inevitably walk away deeply satisfied with the time spent to create something. I think I gave up on the "wow" factor I had chased in the past. I just keep doing do what I do.
I have no doubt that 2022 will have it's share of challenges. I send positivity to all. Please be well, be kind, and take care.

Today at one of the Goodwill stores on our thrift route, we found a nice little KidKraft dollhouse, with the furniture, a doll family and some extras.
We also found bags of Rainbow High dolls crazy cheap but that's another photo.
Anyway, CM was lugging stuff as usual and it suddenly reminded me of a photo from 14 years ago at the flea market:

That caused me to think this would be a fun modern parallel photo.
Things haven't changed! CM's still a good sport about being a grown man toting dollhouses around. 😄
It also caused me to give thanks to God for consistency in life. In a fallen world of deceit and violence, it doesn't just happen that we live in such a stable society that 14 years later, we're still enjoying toy photography.
It is the grace of God in His kindness towards our nation through our Savior, the Lord, Christ Jesus. 😊 🙏

Continuing the story. Did everything go wrong that day? The balloon shown in the previous photos has failed.
When, like other viewers, I moved away from the take-off site, I saw numerous balloons in the sky. The starts from the remaining places were successful. The sight of numerous balloons in the sky compensated for the earlier disappointment a little.
The photo shows one of the many balloons flying over the city.
In this approach, I also liked the consistency of colors - a yellow balloon for warm air, a yellow t-shirt of a random passer-by and all this decorated with warm yellow light of the late afternoon.
I end this photo with a series of balloons.
A marshmallow is a sugar based confection that, in its modern form, typically consists of sugar, water and gelatin whipped to a spongy consistency, molded into small cylindrical pieces, and coated with corn starch. Marshmallow probably came first into being as a medicinal substance, since the mucilaginous extracts come from the root of the marshmallow plant, Althaea officinalis, which were used as a remedy for sore throats. Concoctions of other parts of the marshmallow plant had medical purposes as well. The root has been used since Egyptian antiquity in a honey-sweetened confection useful in the treatment of sore throat. The later French version of the recipe, called pâte de guimauve (or "guimauve" for short), included an egg white meringue and was often flavored with rose water.

Apparently I wasn't paying much attention to consistency when I snipped the tulips this week; I managed to level the colours but not the bouquet.
Oh well; a little layering never hurt anyone, (well unless you count that one haircut years ago....) at least the light is nice.

The sugar apple is indigenous to tropical America.
The aggregate fruit is heart-shaped, round, ovate, or conical, from 2 to 5 inches (5.1-12.7 cm) in diameter and weighs from 4 to 24 oz (113-682 g). The fruit is composed of loosely cohering segments, which project as rounded protuberances and are easily separated when the fruit is ripe. The pulp of green and purplish-red sugar apples is white or creamy white, with a custard-like consistency and sweet, pleasant flavor. There are numerous, size of small kidney beans dark seeds embedded in the pulp.

Earthworms, beetles, a small mouse perhaps made these tracks. I also found a large centipede in the area but that creature made a larger track which isn't shown on this section. Not sure why some tracks are smooth and others are not but it may have to do with the changing consistency of the mud as it dried out.

Carolina Wren: Every morning this little fella has been greeting us for his daily supply of meal worms. I often come out and find him waiting at his dish for his breakfast. With all of this consistency he seems to always disappear when I bring the camera out. Today I was determined to capture an image of him. Hours after his morning treat he returned but as soon as he saw me with the camera he took off and I didn't see him for the rest of the day. He'll return tomorrow though expecting his daily treat.
a spoonful of blueberry sauce/jam made today. to be eaten with yoghurt/icecream/custard/semolina/sticky toffee pudding etc
a pan of blueberries gently cooked in the juice of one lemon until softened with lid on, stirred occasionally
no water was added at any stage
once softened, brought to the boil with lid off
then sugar added to taste (not a serious jam where far more sugar would have been added)
simmered for a while with lid off all the time
stirred occasionally
when happy with consistency left to cool
decanted into a glass wired jar

Ingredients:
1 lb (450g) onions, weight is for onions when peeled and finely chopped
2 lbs (900g) "windfall" apples, weight is for apples when peeled, cored and roughly chopped
4 ounces (100g) sultanas
1 ounce (25g) fresh ginger, peeled and grated
1 teaspoon dried ginger powder
2 teaspoons mixed spice
1 lb (450g) soft brown sugar
1/2 pint (300ml) malt vinegar
1/2 pint (300ml) cider apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Directions:
Place all the prepared onions and apples into a large preserving pan and add the remaining ingredients.
Bring slowly to the boil and then lower the heat so that chutney cooks at a rolling boil.
Stir the chutney regularly and make sure it does not “catch” and burn on the base of the preserving pan.
Keep on cooking until the chutney is the consistency of a thick jam and all the liquids have dissolved.
(A trick to check if it is cooked is to draw your wooden spoon across the chutney, if the space that is left fills up with liquid, the chutney is not ready yet).
Spoon the hot chutney into hot and sterile jars and seal immediately.
Makes about 4 lbs chutney.
Store in a dark and cool place and leave to mature for at least 2 weeks.
Will keep in ideal storage conditions for up to 2 years+.

Making fufu.
Fufu is an African dish made from tubers, such as cassava or yams, and/or bananas, which yield a semi-solid, sticky paste, similar to polenta, served as an accompaniment to soups, sauces, and stews.
It is an essential staple food in West Africa, particularly popular in Ghana, and is prepared by boiling and mashing the ingredients until they reach a smooth, sticky consistency.

The three mile trail through the forest to Shi Shi Beach normally contains a mile of mud hole. Luckily the trail was dried out enough that the mud was the consistency of bread dough. After the sun set we hiked back to the car by flashlight with the sound of coyotes yipping in the distance.
