Joao Pedro DAvid, do Incriatorio.

In recognition of the Plan of Chicago centennial celebration, the Chicago Architecture Foundation presents a new exhibition, Chicago Model City. The exhibition considers the philosophy of “thinking big” by examining historic and contemporary urban plans of all sizes. Chicago Model City includes photographs, maps, videos, digital visualizations, and a large-scale model of Chicago’s Loop—designed to be a permanent attraction and centerpiece of CAF.

Chicago Model City encompasses five thematic sections.

Global City examines how transportation networks form the basis of Chicago’s econo

mic wealth and innovative potential. The exhibition looks at the development and impact of O’Hare Airport and freight railways.

Connected City investigates how Chicagoans’ ability to circulate through their region encourages urban growth, drives real estate development, and contributes to quality of life. Visitors will also see how highways and Chicago's famous "L" played an important part in Chicago's development.

Green City focuses on the impact of urbanization on the health of citizens and the region. The exhibition studies programs such as Mayor Daley’s Chicago Climate Action Plan and Jane Addams’ public heath initiatives.

Beautiful City features Chicagoans’ efforts to build an efficient, pleasurable, and moral environment through beautification. Burnham and Bennett’s 1909 Plan of Chicago is explored.

New City investigates the belief that demolition and rebuilding will solve urban ills. CMC examines the IIT campus and its surrounding neighborhood—which the university and other institutions “renewed” beginning in the 1940s.

A great end to a great day.

I had IM's on one monitor, BBC streaming from the PC to the TV (lower left), Twitter on the iBook and Politico on the computer I was working on for a family member.

I can't describe how fun it was watching Ryan playing for the Texas Rangers. As you can see, we had great seats to get some nice shots of Ryan. At least in the "big league" the shirts are bigger, making it somewhat easier to fit the name Strausborger across the back. They practically had to wrap it around the front in Little League.

The house

Even for the inner city of Vienna, the premises of the Ring Road Galleries are unique: connected by a glass bridge, two fundamentally different buildings follow a common vocation: to be the first shopping address of the city.

The internationally renowned architects Wilhelm Holzbauer and Georg Lippert in a fascinating way combined the charm of Vienna, modern aesthetics and state-of-the-art technology in the main buildings of the Ring Road Galleries, Palais Corso and Kärntnerringhof (Carinthian Ring Court).

Kärntnerringhof

The Kärntnerringhof, with an area of 35,000 square meters, stands proudly on the site of the former Steyr-House. With 16 floors, it offers not only space for the Ring Road Galleries, but also for spacious offices, luxury apartments and the underground car park. The owner of the Kärntnerringhof is the Zurich Insurance Company.

Palais Corso

The monumental facade of the Palais Corso which outwardly reflects the charm of the 19th century impresses with a highly modern interior. In a strikingly harmonious way, modern and traditional architectural features blend. In addition to the business centers of the Ring Road Galleries, the traditional Grandhotel Wien as well as offices, luxury apartments and an underground car park can be found on an area of 70,000 square meters. The Palais Corso is owned by the First Viennese Hotel AG.
