KLM continues to undergo major modernisation of its long-haul aircraft and its growing fleet of Boeing 777 aircraft forms part of the programme whereby they are being configured with brand new cabin interiors as well as in the process of receiving the revised livery. None of the Boeing 777-200ER fleet currently don't carry the revised KLM colour scheme however 4 out of 10 Boeing 777-300ER's have since been repainted. All new deliveries to KLM and to its subsidiary KLM Cityhopper will too feature the revised livery. Currently, KLM operate 25 Boeing 777's, this includes 15 Boeing 777-200ER's and 10 Boeing 777-300ER's which include 4 more examples on-order.

Bravo Victor Golf is one of 6 Boeing 777-300ER's out of a fleet of 10 that retains KLM's now defunct livery. Delivered new to the Dutch flag-carrier in June 2012 and she is powered by 2 General Electric GE90-115B engines. All of KLM's Boeing 777 as mentioned before are named after either National Parks or World Heritage Sites... Bravo Victor Golf is named after the Wolong National Nature Reserve located in the Sichuan Province of China. The Wolong National Park as well as many of the sanctuaries around the Sichuan Province are designated UNESCO world heritage sites, the reserve itself houses more than 150 endangered species of giant panda as well as red pandas, golden monkeys and white-lipped deer. The closest city to Wolong is Chengdu, of which KLM serves the city 4 times a week using Boeing 747-400M's.

SAM 26000 was the first of two Boeing VC-137C United States Air Force aircraft specifically configured and maintained for use by the President of the United States. It used the callsign Air Force One when the President was on board, SAM 26000 otherwise.

A VC-137C with Air Force serial number 62-6000, SAM 26000 was a customized Boeing 707. It entered service in 1962 during the administration of John F. Kennedy and was replaced in Presidential service in 1972 but kept as a backup. The aircraft was finally retired in 1998 and is now on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force.

The aircraft was built at Boeing's Renton plant at a cost of $8 million. Raymond Loewy, working with First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, designed the blue and white color scheme featuring the presidential seal that is still used today. The plane served as the primary means of transportation for three presidents: Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Richard Nixon during his first term. In 1972, during the Nixon administration, the plane was replaced by another 707, SAM 27000, although SAM 26000 was kept as a back-up plane until 1998.

Kennedy and Johnson[edit]

The most famous photo ever taken aboard a presidential aircraft was taken aboard SAM 26000. Hours after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson is sworn in just before take off for Washington.

John F. Kennedy was the first president to use SAM 26000.[1] SAM 26000 took Kennedy to Berlin ("Ich bin ein Berliner") in 1963; the month before that, it set a new Washington-Moscow time record.[2] It was designer Raymond Loewy who, at the invitation of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, gave SAM 26000 the now-familiar Air Force One livery of blue, silver, and white.

On November 22, 1963, after landing the President and First Lady at Dallas' Love Field, SAM 26000 was the backdrop to live broadcasts of the Kennedys greeting well-wishers.[citation needed] Later that day, after Kennedy's assassination made Vice President Lyndon Johnson the new president, SAM 26000 carried the Johnsons, Jacqueline Kennedy, and John Kennedy's body back to Washington.[3] To accommodate the casket four seats were removed from the passenger compartment; Johnson took the Oath of Office (see photo) aboard SAM 26000 before takeoff.[3][4]

As Kennedy was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery, 50 fighter jets flew overhead, followed by SAM 26000.[5]

Johnson was SAM 26000's most frequent flyer, logging some 1,523,000 miles during his five years as president; he once called it "my own little plane". New seats were installed, now facing rearward toward the presidential cabin, in which was installed a spacious leather chair (dubbed "the throne")[citation needed] and a crescent-shaped table which the president could raise and lower by means of a switch. Aides and guests sat on couches around "the throne."

Johnson flew in SAM 26000 twice to Vietnam and took tours of Asia in 1968 and 1969.[6] In 1967, Johnson went on a largely unplanned aerial odyssey, making stops in California, Hawaii, Australia, Thailand, South Vietnam, Pakistan, and Italy.[7] The body of Senator Robert Kennedy was flown aboard the SAM 26000 after he was assassinated in June 1968 and was eventually buried in Arlington National Cemetery, next to his brother John.

Nixon[edit]

President Richard Nixon and First Lady Pat Nixon disembark SAM 26000 after landing in the People's Republic of China, 1972

Upon the inauguration of Richard Nixon in 1969, SAM 26000 underwent repairs and upgrades. Nixon and his staff were offered a key role in the redesigning of the plane, a position they took up, and indeed, the finished plane reflected the new president's persona. The interior of the plane was stripped from the nose to the tail; all minor problems were taken care of; upgrades were made on the flight management system; communications gear was slightly modified. Richard Nixon had the interior of the plane redesigned to suit his fancy. Nixon did away with the open floor plan of the Johnson era and replaced it with a three-room suite for himself and his family, serving as a combination of lounge, office, and bedrooms. Accommodations for guests, aides, security and media personnel were located aft of the three rooms.

Although SAM 27000 took over as the primary presidential aircraft in 1972, Nixon's family preferred SAM 26000 because its interior configuration allowed greater privacy for the First Family.[4] Nixon also had the name "The Spirit of '76" applied to the nose of both VC-137Cs.[8][9] The Nixons flew on SAM 26000 to China in 1972, becoming the first American President and First Lady to visit that nation. SAM 26000 was also used by National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger during his secret meetings with the French to negotiate the Vietnam peace process. In D

As mentioned further up, a close examination of 'Mater' from Disney / Pixar 'Cars' leads me to believe that the automotive inspiration of the character is likely to have been the 1958 International Harvester A180, like the one shown here. Apparently there is an older IH from about 1953 on Route 66 which is configured as a tow truck, but the sheetmetal on the front of the vehicles is quite different, with more pronounced separate fenders.

Anyway, International Harvester looked to have a pretty solid business in pickups and related trucks, along with more focused farm machinery such as tractors, until a series of managerial bungles, including trying to freeze out the unions in the early 1980s as a way of improving the books, forced the whole combine into receivership.

The A180 here though, was created during the company's hey day, the 50th anniversary having been celebrated in the prior year.

International Harvester even made trucks and other equipment here in Australia, in Geelong no less. Some of the skilled trades folk I had work in my team in the Prototype department had done their apprenticeships with International Harvester, just around the corner from Ford. The old headquarters is now boarded up, and where the plant once stood is now a woodchipping facility.

I had known that International Harvester did make trucks and farm machinery, but not to the scale that some research had indicated.

What is clear from some of the images on the site, is how glamorous some of these vehicles were - I really like the 'Jungle Yacht', and the tanker truck - some future Lego build for sure.

This A180 Pickup is at the more shiny end of the spectrum too, but shows that at one stage IH occupied part of this market segment in the way that GMC does now - fancy truck for people with money from industry and agriculture.

This Lego miniland-scale International Harvester A180 Pickup Truck of 1958 has been created for Flickr LUGNuts' 116th Build Challenge, - "Pickups and Vans", - a challenge to build pickups and vans.

From the RIBA website : "One Coleman Street is a new 235,000 sq ft office building for Legal and General in the City of London completed in 2007. The scheme set out to unite the disparate urban context of the eastern end of London Wall and Coleman Street by re-establishing its street wall, and through the creation of a new garden on the southern side.

The facade utilises polished pre-cast concrete cladding panels configured in a geometric arrangement expressed through a series of interlocking and alternating triangulated surfaces. The fenestration is set at an angle, creating a robustly modelled surface running around the curvature of the building. The directional geometry with alternate floors arranged in the opposite direction is resolved by the triangulation of the spandrel."

The New Year is coming closer as 2016 draws to a close... The year has seen airlines adding capacity and frequency to a number of flights, some with interest whilst the others are bog-standard.

2016 has seen Air China undergoing some major aircraft rescheduling, this following the carrier taking delivery of 242-tonne Airbus A330-300's as well as 2-class configured Boeing 777-300ER's.

Air China has for the past 2 years, now getting on for 3 years from 2017 underwent a number of changes to its flights at London Heathrow... The Winter 2014 schedule change kicked off the whole alterations, the once single daily flight (CA937/938) between London Heathrow and Beijing went to twice daily (with the addition of CA855/856), with both Airbus A330-200's operating the flights instead of Boeing 777-300ER's. The Summer 2015 schedule saw Boeing 777-300ER's reinstated on CA937/938 on a yearly-basis with CA855/856 retaining their Airbus A330-200's.

The Summer 2016 saw two more further changes to Air China's schedule, between 1st July 2016 and 31st August 2016, 242-tonne Airbus A330-300's took over on CA855/856 whilst a 15th frequency was added on Saturday-only with Boeing 777-300ER's operating on a newly-created CA633/634.

So, what has Air China come up with this time round? As per Airline Route, beginning from 15th July 2017 sees Air China utilising 3-class Boeing 777-300ER's operating both CA937/938 and CA855/856.

The capacity increase comes on the back of China Eastern revealing plans to introduce Boeing 777-300ER's into London Heathrow from Summer 2017, the schedule change was revealed in early December 2016.

Currently, Air China operates a growing fleet of Boeing 777's with 29 in service, which includes 6 Boeing 777-200's and 23 Boeing 777-300ER's with 3 more examples left on-order. The original batch of 20 Boeing 777-300ER's were delivered between 2011 and 2014 delivered in a 3-class configuration, whilst the newest 3 including 3 more left on-order delivered from 2016 are delivered in a 2-class configuration.

One of the more surprising routes introduced by United Airlines into London Heathrow; the carrier started flights between London Heathrow and Boston on 14th April 2022 when UA24/25 was introduced utilising their High-J configured Boeing 767-300ERs which are the mainstay type utilised into London Heathrow on flights emanating from Chicago-O'Hare, Newark-Liberty and Washington-Dulles.

The introduction of direct flights from Boston by United Airlines did come as a surprise as the airport is not a hub for the airline, instead heavily competitive with American Airlines, British Airways, Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic all operating frequencies, and will be joined by another airline from September 2022 when JetBlue introduces their second major transatlantic flight.

Despite not being a major hub for United, it does serve as a major East Coast operation for connecting flights to their major hubs across the United States; it also allows for the Star Alliance carrier to provide connections at London Heathrow to their codesharing partners.

For N653UA, the nearly 30 year old airframe is one of the eldest airframes to have carried Star Alliance colours since their foundation in 1997 and served as part of the carrier's long-haul international fleet for all of her career. This continued with the merger with Continental and whilst their future was questioned given their lacklustre reliability, United did decide to carry out a major refurbishment of the type to replace the now dated legacy United interiors. The airframe was refurbished in April 2016, receiving blended winglets and a major interior refurbishment, being reconfigured again by April 2021 when she received High-J Polaris interiors.

Currently, United Airlines operates 54 Boeing 767s, which includes 38 Boeing 767-300ERs and 16 Boeing 767-400ERs.

November Six Five Three Uniform Alpha is one of 38 Boeing 767-300ERs operated by United Airlines, delivered new to the carrier 27th October 1992 and she is powered by 2 Pratt & Whitney PW4060 engines. The airframe has carried 3 variations of Star Alliance colours since 1997.

53809

Class 7F 2-8-0 configured locomotive 53809 was built by Robert Stephenson & Co of Darlington in July 1925.. It was withdrawn from use in September 1964 and is now owned by John Moorhouse and operated by the 13809 Preservation Society Ltd.

On 20th. November 1929, locomotive No. 89, later 53809, was taking a freight train north towards Bath. Whilst traveling slowly, due to the weight of the train and a stop at Midford, through Combe Down tunnel the crew of the engine were overcome by the smoke, resulting in the train running away down hill and crashing in the goods yard outside Bath Green Park. The driver, Henry Jennings, and two shunters in the yard were killed in the accident.

Following restoration in 1980 at Swanwick as 13809 in the livery of the London, Midland and Scottish (LMS) railway, it worked through the 1980's and early 1990's, reverting to its British Railways (BR) number 53809 in 1987, before being withdrawn for overhaul in 1994.

The locomotive emerged in January 2006 in BR Black Livery as No. 53809, entering service in early February at the Midland Railway at Butterley. The locomotive then ran for 5 years before it was withdrawn from service early in 2011, requiring boiler repairs. The engine’s second overhaul was completed in February 2016, keeping its previous BR livery. In January 2018 it came to the North Norfolk Railway on a long term operational contract.

Good morning everyone. I'm back...and on my new computer I'm happy to say. But since I'm still in the process of configuring it and have to deal with the plumber again today I thought it would be a good day to share my 2013 dragonfly calendar. Especially since it's Dragonfly Thursday.

As with the butterfly calendar, it was created utilizing RedBubble and can be previewd at the below link as well as purchased. It's also the same size calendar at 11.7 x 16.5 inches (297 x 420mm) printed on satin art paper, and includes a cover.

I forgot to mention when I posted the butterfly calendar that RedBubble is located in the UK, so printing & shipping calendars to those of you living in the UK or other parts of Europe is a simple matter.

Thank you for stopping by...and once again, any input in regards to the calendar if you check out the preview would be greatly appreciated as I'm always looking for ways to improve on things.

PS...I'll be kind of hit & miss here for one more day as I finish configuring the new computer and deal with the plumber this morning. So my visits and/or response to comments will be rather limited until later today.

Eagle County Regional Airport (IATA: EGE, ICAO: KEGE, FAA LID: EGE), sometimes referred to as Vail/Eagle Airport or the Eagle Vail Airport, is a public airport located four miles (6 km) west of Eagle, Colorado, United States. The airport serves its namesake Eagle County, which includes visitors to the nearby Vail and Beaver Creek ski resorts. It covers 632 acres (256 ha) and is configured with a single runway.

The History Channel rated Eagle County Regional Airport as #8 on its list of Most Extreme Airports in July, 2010 due to the elevation, weather variability, an approach through mountainous terrain and challenging departure procedures. In 2008–2009, the Airport completed a runway repaving and extension project, increasing the runway length to 9,000 feet. This enables aircraft to take off with more passengers and fuel and the capability to serve longer distances.
