Built in 1922, this 3 mile stretch is all that remains of what is known as the βRibbon Roadβ a 9 foot wide paved stretch of old Route 66. It is said that Oklahoma could not afford to pave the entire length of the road so they paved only half the width of the road.

*This was a part of my afternoon road trip from Springfield, Missouri to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and back along Route 66.
On the way back to Missouri, a thunderstorm popped up out of no where near Vinita, Oklahoma, and was able to take advantage of the clouds to get these pictures along the Ribbon Highway. The storms was much welcomed with the temps dived from the low 100s to the confortable mid 70s. The rest of the drive home allowed us to have the car windows down the rest of the way and giving the air conditioner a much needed break.
As you can plainly see, I don't try very hard to keep my MacBook Pro in mint condition. The bevels are unglued, the fans aren't as quiet, and as for the onions: I'm just lucky they haven't set the thing on fire.
βEverything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we seeβ
- Rene Magritte
My tribute to the famous painting by Rene Magritte ( 21 November 1898 β 15 August 1967) with the title βThe Human Conditionβ oil on canvas, painted in 1933
This is another subject from the same setting.
I just built a portable table for my still life photography. It is housed in the garage where I can get soft available light (well, that does depend upon the weather condition). What is nice about it is that I can angle the table to get the degree of lighting in different places.
Euphorbia milii, the crown of thorns, or Christ thorn, is a species of flowering plant native to Madagascar. The species makes a dense bed, a marvelous soil conditioner
My brother and myself used to fly in to Katmai after the lodge closed and stay in the empty campground at Brooks.
At that time of year there were no people in the campground.
So, it was just us and the bears.
Also, bears that didn't come around during "tourist season" and that weren't "conditioned" would show up and it could get interesting.
This was one of those bears.
When we first saw it, it was down at the lakeshore.
Then it decided to come see us.
We were cooking our dinner in one of the little three sided shelters that were there.
Each one had a "picnic table" and we were using that.
Anyway, this bear showed up and was very interested in what we were cooking.
It came right up to where we were.
We clapped our hands, yelled at it and it didn't budge.
Finally, I picked up a stick and used it to beat on one of my pans, while yelling for it to, "Get Out Of Here"!
That did the trick.
The bear left and we got to eat our dinner, without anymore interruptions.
Good Memories!

Youβre looking at a 1938 Cadillac 75 2-Door Convertible which just about didnβt make it off the drawing boards, as far as this composite goes. Both, the picture of the large barn-like structure in the background and the picture of this β38 Caddy were recorded at the Grand Experience classic auto show at the Gilmore Museum in 2014 β¦β¦β¦.but at different times, different locations and under slightly different lighting condition. The βtime and placeβ posed no particular problem but the lighting conditions were the challenge which, quite frankly, I believe I have not fully overcome. Shadow, shadowβ¦β¦everywhere a shadow,
Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that, can't you do the shadow?
I told myself I would never attempt to place a car into a mixed lighting area (part sunlight, part in shadow) but as you see I did and although I attempted using about fifty different mixed shadow effects (as reflected on a portion of the carβs body by the tree on the far right), nothing looked right or believable. At somewhere around fifty, I threw up my hands and said - well, you donβt really want to hear what I said so letβs just say, I was at my wits end. I am sure if one looks at this scene critically, one will spot the inconsistencies, so donβt look at this scene critically. Just squint your eyes and imagine that everything in the picture is hunky-dory.
I believe the following, which was obtained from the conceptcarz web site pertains to βthis particular carβ but without having the chassis number, I canβt be positive. Here is what conceptcarz/Daniel Vaughn writes I believe about, this car.
Coachwork: Fleetwood
Chassis Num: 3271250
High bid of $65,000 at 2008 RM Sothebys. (did not sell)
For 1938, Cadillac moved the headlamps into the front fenders for the up-market Series 65 and Fleetwood Series 75 models. The bodies became more curvaceous than that of the prior models, particularly from the rear. Optional dual sidemounts covers were hinged to the fenders. Quarter windows were sliding rather than hinged construction. Technical innovations for 1938 included column shift, a transverse muffler just behind the fuel tank, new wheels, a hypoid rear axle, horns hidden behind the grille, and a Synchro-Flex flywheel.
The Series 75 was given an increase in compression which lifted horsepower to 140. * Sporty looking but certainly not a speed demon.
This particular example wears an older restoration and painted in a soft yellow color. There are wide whitewall tires, a tan cloth top and refinished chrome accents. The interior upholstery is dark brown leather, and the dashboard is dark chocolate brown.
In 2008 this 1938 Cadillac Series 75 Convertible Coupe was brought to RM Auctions 'Vintage Motor Cars of Meadow Brook' where it was estimated to sell for $75,000-$100,000. A high bid of $65,000 failed to satisfy the reserve and the car was left unsold.

The weather has been perfect the last few days! A great opportunity to get Stolas out and work on our shoulder movements. It only takes a few passes before any stiffness is worked out. His reach and motion always look so good. Weβre hopeful to compete a little this year; get an opportunity at some feedback and grow our skills.
See everyone in the show arena soon!

The color in the sky was caused by the Belt of Venus. The Belt of Venus is caused by the backscatter of reddened sunlight by fine particulates high in the atmosphere. This scattering effect, known as Rayleigh scattering, is responsible for the pinkish hue. The phenomenon is similar to alpenglow, which creates a reddish glow just over the horizon. However, the Belt of Venus occurs higher in the atmosphere and lasts for a longer period.
It is, basically, the Earth's atmospheric sunset color and its shadow being broadcast across the upper atmosphere in the opposite direction of the setting sun. It's a condition that will allow you to get some colorful skies when there's no significant sunset otherwise.

disclaimer: descriptions may be just a wee bit exaggerated.
Jake represents the Proletariat, desperately clutching at worldly possessions and societal expectations (the gift box) while simultaneously dangling over the abyss of environmental and economic catastrophe (the floor), suspended all along by the weight of history and bourgeois establishment (the cast iron staircase), ironically a situation of our own creation.
(yes I am joking here mostly)
I'd be curious to know exactly how many abandoned farms in similar condition dot the landscape across this vast country today.
This photo was taken at the Melbourne museum. It was taken hand held with available light. It was a condition of entry that no flash was used. The lens l took it with is one of my favorites the canon EF28mm f/1.8 USM prime lens.
Hit the L key for a better view. Thanks for the favs and comments. Much appreciated!

It is fascinating to hear what some people have been up to, before and during the lockdown.ππ
An example of this were the actions of Mrs Trebogus, her sister Trixie Trebillcock and Betty Beswetherick, shall we say these three ladies are of mature years but nobodies fool.π΅π΅π΅
At the beginning of March following their instincts the three ladies decided to move in together. They had several articulated lorry loads of beer delivered by Sharps Brewery, plus quite a consignment from Camel Valley Vineyard. ππππΊπΊπΊπ·π·π·
Mrs Trebogus always kept much food in her freezer, plus she had a large vegetable garden and of course the ladies culinary skills were legendary, they were well prepared. πππππππ
The ladies felt they would be good company for each other, sure enough their hunch was proved correct as three weeks later the whole country went into lock down, which the ladies had no problem with as they were the type of people in common with so many others that did as they were told. The ladies were able to follow instruction, had respect and complied, plus these ladies all came from special forces backgrounds which required them working in some hostile environments, Trixie worked as a bouncer at Mothercare for many years, yes these ladies are tough.πΉπΉπΉ
As the lockdown progressed many on line fitness videos sprang up, the ladies were very keen to keep themselves in peak condition so they followed along with many of these workouts, however none of the videos were of such intensity in order to keep the ladies bodies in absolute peak condition, it just did not stretch the ladies enough, Mrs Trebogus had an idea.πππ
She owns a Mercedes ML63 AMG, so the three ladies went into the garage, Mrs Trebogus got hold of the front bumper and lifted the Mercedes up and down in order to tone her arm muscles.
The other two ladies also carried out this manoeuvre, as mentioned they are tough.
Trixie suggested to Betty that she got underneath the Mercedes, put her feet under the bumper and lifted it up and down with her legs in order to strengthen the thighs.πͺπͺπͺ
Everything was going swimmingly then Mrs Trebogus had a go as she likes to keep her thighs in special peak condition, there was an enormous crack, Mrs Trebogusβs left leg fell off. Nothing to do with the vacuum cleaner incident I must add.
Like you do, Mrs Trebogus dusted herself off and said this is not a problem as my car is an automatic (You still have to be there) but when the time comes and we are allowed out I still have my right leg in order to be able to drive. So she picked up her leg, hopped over and placed it in the big chest freezer she had in the garage.π‘
Trixie said βyou should seek medical helpβ, no responded Mrs Trebogus we know the rules, we have been instructed to stay home, not to go out, we will wait until the lockdown is eased, I can still walk on the one good leg, do cart wheels with a slight shimmy, so I have nothing to complain about. Anyway like so many people, if we were really desperate there is always someone locally that can help out, that is human instinct. πβοΈπͺ
The weeks went by, sure enough, some of the lockdown measures were eased and in May people were allowed to drive for over an hour, but return on the same day. Not wishing to trouble the medical profession, Mrs Trebogus went onto the internet to look for alternative medical assistance, one name caught her eye, Mystic Peg, who specialised in limb reattachment services.π©π»
As Mrs Trebogus herself had worked with some of our special forces, she respected the anonymity of Mystic Peg who would only provide her post code, and a time to meet.π©πΌ
Like most of us long car journeys need to be planned, first you need a full tank of petrol, how many people keep a full tank of fuel just in case they need to go off at a minutes notice. Mrs Trebogus went and filled her Mercedes with fuel so that they could go off to the secret location.β½οΈπ
The sat nav coordinates were plumbed in and after quite some journey the three ladies reached their destination. Sure enough as our ladies got out of the car a fairy was waiting dressed in a Knights of the round table uniform, yes this was Mystic Peg, she said βcome with meβ, so Mrs Trebogus, with her leg under her arm, Trixie and Betty followed, they all set off into a park, keeping two meters away from Mystic Peg
Mystic Peg instructed Mrs Trebogus to sit on a special little stool, with a bit of her left hip hanging over the edge of the stool. Mystic Peg asked Mrs Trebogus to align the detached leg against her hip. Mystic Peg closed her eyes, muttered a couple of words and within moments, hey presto Mrs Trebogusβs leg was reattached and working like a new one.
As you can imagine (I can) Mrs Trebogus was so grateful to Mystic Peg for her services and asked what she owed her. Mystic Peg said "it is my pleasure to help good people like you and really it was such a simple job".ππππ·π·π·
Mystic Peg went on to say, βas I have not seen many people for a while could I share a confidence with you Mrs Trebogus. Well donβt tell anyone but during the lockdown we had been made aware of a bloke who drove to this very location who could not see his hand in front of his face.
As none of us were on duty during lockdown he allegedly sat over there on a park bench, he gazed up towards the Magic Castle, bingo his eyesight came back, a miracle and he was able to drive all the way home to Londonβ.π°ππ±
Mrs Trebogus responded to the fairy βyou just cannot make that upβ.π
Thank you so much for looking at my photographs, the comments and banter you leave are so appreciated.
Have a good weekend

#2868 - 2015 Day 311: Early morning outside my room at Cortijo Romero before departure back to the airport. What a wonderful week this has been, with a group of largely inexperienced photographers who have been open to see the world in new ways with no prior conditioning to undo. We have had so much fun. It is not work really ...
