Our Daily Challenge - "A Photo Walk Shot"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many of us are extremely narrow minded and self-centered in our pursuits. Psychologists have studied many populations in dozens of different cultures, and North America contributes (by far) the highest numbers of people with these outlooks. It would be an improvement for all of society if we could broaden our scopes -- consider a new point of view, a new idea, or something that we can improve on -- in fulfilling whatever we're meant to do in life.

If we could take a break from satisfying our own excitement and opinions and pay attention to the plethora of perspectives surrounding us, we could not only help out the world, but perhaps learn something insightful about it. A society saturated with broad world-views could work together to create an awesome habitat suitable for all of humanity. Wouldn't it be wonderful?

For me, the closest analogy to this needed shift is a photography phenomenon: the deeper depth of field that photographers illuminate when narrowing our lenses' apertures could be realized conceptually if people considered external thoughts and concepts.

The news media plays such a large part in how we perceive current events, history, and even the future. As soon as I saw what was happening on the TV the morning of 9/11, I popped a tape into the VCR and hit record. I let the tape run for the next six hours.

These stills are from the tape I created that day and represent the way we were all glued to the TV waiting for word on what the hell was going on.
