The instruction is a combination of interactive lecture, hands-on experience, real world case studies, group work, and research.
Sometimes a business starts after a lightening bolt of inspiration. Other times the beginnings are actually at the end of a long progression, usually starting with a hobby or casual interest of the entrepreneur. Often desperation, either running to a job or running from a bad job, provides the motivation. Each start is uniquely personal. You would think that first hurdle, the decision to go it alone, is the most difficult. It is not. That first decision is simply one in an endless series of hurdles the small business owner most leap. All along the way cash, customers, employees, vendors all sneak onto the track to throw a new hurdle in front of our hero.
How did our world get turned so upside down? Business people are boobs and thieves. The working folks are overpaid slackers and suddenly the phrase, “I’m from the Government and I am here to help”, is no longer seen as a joke. What is needed is a good dose of honor for the people who hang out a shingle and try to go it alone. Don’t equate the corner grocer, or the mechanic, or the guy running a janitorial company, with the nincompoops running the banks. We need more level headed risk takers, not the poseurs who took “risks” knowing full well Uncle Sam would bail them out. Give me the guy who starts a business, fails, takes his lumps and tries again over the slick MBA types that wrecked the economy.
