I'm turning our compost by moving it from one compost bin to another and alternating it with layers of dried leaves. As I'm digging into the compost, I'm finding tons and tons of worms and other creatures, which is a good thing. #worms #worm #compost #compostbin February 18, 2017 at 04:53PM

three compost bins

I found another use for my compost bin. The potatoes are going crazy. I had to put the top part of the compost bin on and filled it with dirt yesterday. Should be a good harvest.

Moved across from its original position (which is now being used for rhubarb)

What a great idea a compost bin is; your garden cuttings and vegetable matter from the kitchen are turned into compost for the garden... sadly the bin is like a supermarket for rats!

We decided to get rid of ours after our neighbour found our stuff across her garden and then the tunnels under the fence and up into the bin. So it has to go!!!

My compost bin arrived today - so now I can make compost from my daily wastes! ...Well, not my 'personal' wastes you understand, that would be wrong - just used tea bags, vegetable peelings, grass cuttings, etc.... :-)

Vegetables grow so much better with compost added to the soil. Here is a good-sized bin ready for a pile of weeds, straw and leaves. Turning it every two weeks can turn it into usable humus in about two months. The English Lavender in front is just about ready to bloom.

Pretty! And hopefully functional.

I found my very first compost bin which is just a garbage can with holes drilled all around its side. I can't remember if I made this when I was in high school or later when I was in college (that's how long it's been). I'm going to repurpose this as a storage container for finished compost in othr southern part of our backyard garden so I don't have to go all the way to the compost bin on the north side of the backyard garden if I need to get compost. #garbagecan #garbagebin #compostbin #garden March 08, 2020 at 06:11PM

Here is a close up of the cover leaves moved over. If you look close, you will also see some sawdust that was left over from a recent project. I try to throw just about anything organic that does not have chemicals into the bin. The leaves and sawdust count as "brown" or "mature" ingredients, primarily adding carbon to the pile.

We compost and it's awesome. Now whether people put the right stuff in the right bin is another story.

three bins, made from 2X4 lumber. Front boards come off for easy loading, turning, unloading. Floor needs help. Eucalyptus roots come shooting up to steal my nutrients. I put polyethylene, plywood, and even concrete stepping stones on the floor to stop the roots. Temperatures in the pile have been up to 140 degrees!!! I love these bins!!!!

My back up compost bin is almost full! Where am I going to put my rotting, unused produce???

There are four (or more) frogs living in my compostbin. The composting process produces a nice temperture and there is plenty of small animals that support this process, for them to eat.

This is the compost bin after the rain, it's had all the beans, cucumber and cherry tomato plants in the pile for some days and weeks now.
