As I move material from one bin to the other, I move over the tiers to hold the material. This picture shows two tiers that have been moved to the new location.

The warm, sunny, dry weather continues! I did a bit of magazine work, then went over to Witney to see Bethan. We did some weeding together, while catching up with her weekend and other bits and pieces. I had my lunch, then went off to Carterton for swimming. It was a good session, fairly quiet, so I was able to get my exercise done in 38 minutes (44 lengths) so got out to get home and carry on editing the magazine. When I needed a break, I went into the garden to do a bit of tidying up. Almost got the magazine ready for the printer now, so that's good.

I filled this compost bin to the top just 2 weeks ago and it has already compacted down by one level... which is perfect timing because I need more space in the other bin. I'll move the top ring from this bin to the other so it'll have more room to me add more garden waste. I'll then repeat this step when this pile comes down one more level. #compost #compostbin #biostackcompostbin #biostack April 28, 2021 at 10:42PM

This is our third compost bin in as many years ~ having big, determined dogs has proven to be quite a challenge! We got the idea (and basic how-to's) for building a bin using old pallets from here: www.instructables.com/id/Pallet_Compost_Bin/

The dark pallet has hinges on it so it can be swung open for emptying. We nailed ours together, instead of tying them to each other.

Colleen and Casidhe made a short visit in October 2011 with dog, Sudo.

Inside of the lid is frosty - this worried me a little, but temperatures within the composting mass are still reasonably warm (10-20 celsias for the most part)

Starting to freeze up inside the bin

Freshly added waste materials - a mix of kitchen scraps, carboard and paper.

Step 2: Move all of the cover leaves...

I completely buried my bin in snow to help insulate until we see some warmer weather.

Made from 100% recycled Polypropylene plastic. This composter narrows towards the top. It has a lid but no bottom, and it has access gates on all four sides. Some assembly is required - the four sides and the lid ship unassembled.

it's about 4' x 4' x 3', made with salvaged lumber, nails, and chicken wire. This was my first project of the summer, and it has been very useful. We compost about 50% of the waste in our house now, which is a very good thing

Turning Mainstays rope handled tubs into a diy compost bin for my garden.

Got myself a third Biostack Compost Bin. I've been checking Craigslist every once in a while to see if one pops up and I finally saw one on Saturday and sent them an email saying I was interested in it. Both of our BioStack Compost Bins are full, so I can collect more yard waste to fill this third on up. #biostackcompostbin #biostack #smithandhawken #compostbin #compost September 06, 2021 at 07:22PM

Up close and personal with some shredded paper. This paper actually came from an old internet directory and is very similar to phonebook paper

These two are connected by 3/4 PVC pipe so as one fills from the rain gutter, the other one fills at same time.

Halfway through moving the old compost into place. I would put a layer of dirt on top of a layer of old compost and then water it.
