It was completely full of yard waste, weeds, bush clippings and some rabbit poop. I put some water in, closed the lid and rolled it around the yard. Already it is compacting a bit. I'll close up the lid now and check on it in a few weeks.
...over to the new location the bin will be moved to. I take off the top tier, set it next to the current location and move over the cover leaves. Now they will be on the bottom after the turning. This helps to absorb moisture and aids in their eventual composting.
It also creates a slight barrier with the ground so that my worms don't start burrowing into the base soil. I also use a landscape barrier to put the bins on to prevent this as well. Otherwise I eventually end up with a little "pit" where the bins are located and I dig up some of the dirt and the worms make nests that loosen the soil. All good things, just not what I want in my bin area.
My all scrap wood compost bins. The original on the left and the new one on the right. I should add two more boards to the new one but I'm out of scrap lumber! The sizes are generous 50" by 60" deep.

Stop contributing to greenhouse gases.
Reduce landfill waste by recycling all of your food scraps including those not allowed in composting with a BokashiCyclette. Landfills are toxic, foul smelling, bad for the planet. They release tons of carbon dioxide and methane gas into the atmosphere and heat up the planet… and it is costing you a lot. Composting is not the answer… it is part of the problem.
Pollution is killing our atmosphere and our soil. Its better and faster then composting and far less toxic. Use our Bokashi system to restore the nutrients (nitrogen, and other essential components) to soil and make plants grow at an accelerated rate. Our BokashiCyclette System is simple to use. We provide 2 efficient anaerobic fermenters to use in your kitchen with a starter supply of Bokashi culture mix. Your scraps become valuable nutrients for your plants. Ferment your food scraps - save the world!
The compost bin has been in the same spot since shortly after arriving - about three years. I've now moved it a whole metre to the left.
The bottom third of the bin contents have been put in and around various plants in the garden - some for the papaya, some for the passionfruit, some for the bananas, some for the citrus.
The top two-thirds of the bin have been mixed with a variety of greenery from around the garden - shouldn't take long at all to settle in its new spot.

This little lady was on our compost bin in the back yard, an ideal place to catch some of the many little insects from the vents of the bin. Also attracted were two male M pavonis jumping spiders, and they were not really interested in the food source, but definitely interested in this female!
Both males vied for her attention and tried to hunt one another away from her.Eventually one of them gave up. The stayer had a marathon courting session, chasing after this little lady for about 40 minutes! She would tease him by waggling her abdomen from side to side whenever he lagged behind, then as he would approach again with third legs waving and abdomen raised with flaps out to impress her, she would dart off again!
Closing in, the male made little dancing sidesteps around her in a circle until he was head to head with her, and then....carefully moved forward and clasped her to him.
The burnt compost bin. Fraser spent the day taking the really burnt bits apart so we can rebuild it at the next project.

After 40 minutes or so of courting this pair were together for over 10 minutes. There should be a lot of young spiders in the back garden next Spring :)
Our compost bins are filled to the brim... mostly with all the fallen leaves from our garden and from my brother's humungous Planetree
We have these great plastic wire coated compost bins that have been a dream compared to the previous bin I built out of an old shipping container.
There are all kinds of things growing from our compost bin, it looks so pretty that I don't want to use it!
