Il soprannome "Slash" gli fu affibiato da Seymour Cassel, padre di un suo amico d'infanzia. Myles Richard Kennedy (Boston, 27 novembre 1969) è un cantautore e chitarrista statunitense. Myles è conosciuto soprattutto per essere il cantante solista ed il chitarrista ritmico della band hard rock Alter Bridge, oltre che per essere la voce del gruppo di Slash durante il tour di quest'ultimo nel 2010.

Momento imperdibile della 31. edizione di JazzAscona è il concerto che la celebre cantante Dee Dee Bridgewater terrà ad Ascona lunedì 29 giugno assieme a una big band stellare da New Orleans!
Dee Dee Bridgewater è da molti anni una delle cantanti più ammirate al mondo. La sua carriera straordinaria lâha vista acclamata protagonista in tutto il mondo in formazioni diverse, sui più importanti palcoscenici e al fianco di stelle di prima grandezza come Thad Jones, Mel Lewis, Dexter Gordon, Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Sonny Rollins, Ray Charles.
Dotata di una voce unica e inconfondibile, è considerata una delle principali eredi delle più grandi cantanti dellâepoca dâoro del jazz, come Ella Fitzgerald o Billie Holiday, cui ha del resto dedicato due album - âDear Ellaâ (1998) ed âEleanora Fagan : To Billie with Love From Dee Dee Bridgewaterâ (2009) - che le sono valsi tre Grammy Awards. Dee Dee è stata anche acclamata protagonista di musical e produzioni teatrali.
Alla sua prima apparizione al festival, la cantante sarà accompagnata dal trombettista Irvin Mayfield e dalla sua New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, una formazione che fonde mirabilmente la tradizione musicale delle grandi big band americane con il groove e il funk delle Second line di New Orleans. Insomma uno spettacolo da non perdere, variato e carico di trascinante groove, che presenta un entusiasmante mix di New Orleans funk, ballate swinganti e stomp-the-beat music.
Vincitore di un Grammy Award proprio con la sua New Orleans Jazz Orchestra nel 2011, Irvin Mayfield oltre che versatile trombettista è anche compositore ed arrangiatore ed è uno dei musicisti più emblematici ed importanti emersi nella New Orleans risorta dopo Katrina, tragedia di cui nel 2015 ricorre il decimo anniversario e in cui Irvin perse il papà . Mayfield era già stato ammirato protagonista ad Ascona nel 2012, anno in cui si esibì con alcuni musicisti della sua orchestra.

Throughout her extraordinary career she has performed internationally with many different bands, on the world's most renowned stages and on the side of stars of the likes of Thad Jones, Mel Lewis, Dexter Gordon, Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Sonny Rollins, and Ray Charles.
Endowed with a unique and unmistakable voice, she is considered heir to the greatest singers of the golden age of jazz such as Ella Fitzgerald or Billie Holiday, to whom she dedicated two of her albums - âDear Ellaâ (1998) and âEleanora Fagan: To Billie with Love From Dee Dee Bridgewaterâ (2009) â and earned her three Grammys.

Ein unverzichtbarer Moment am 31. JazzAscona Festival ist das Konzert der berühmten Sängerin Dee Dee Bridgewater und ihrer super Big Band aus New Orleans, welches am Montag, 29. Juni über die Bühne geht.
Dee Dee Bridgewater gehört seit vielen Jahren zu den meistbewunderten Sängerinnen, weltweit. Im Laufe ihrer beispiellosen Karriere stand sie als umjubelte Protagonistin auf den bedeutendsten Bühnen der ganzen Welt, in diversen Formationen und an der Seite von Topstars wie Thad Jones, Mel Lewis, Dexter Gordon, Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Sonny Rollins, Ray Charles. Ausgestattet mit einer einmaligen, unverwechselbaren Stimme, gilt sie als eine der wichtigsten Erbinnen der grossen Sängerinnen der goldenen Epoche des Jazz, wie Ella Fitzgerald oder Billie Holiday, denen sie übrigens zwei Alben gewidmet hat - "Dear Ella" (1998) und "Eleanora Fagan: To Billie with Love From Dee Dee Bridgewater" (2009). Gerade mit diesem New Orleans Jazz Orchestra gewann Irvin Mayfield 2011 einen Grammy. Der vielseitige Trompeter ist auch Komponist und Arrangeur und gehört zu den emblematischsten und bedeutendsten Musikern, die sich im neu erstandenen New Orleans nach Katrina einen Namen gemacht haben. Zehn Jahre sind seit der Hurrikan-Tragödie vergangen, in der Irvin seinen Vater verlor. Mayfield wurde schon 2012 am Festival in Ascona als Protagonist bewundert, zusammen mit einigen Musikern aus seinem Orchester.

I Black Label Society sono una band heavy metal statunitense, fondata nel 1998 dal chitarrista, cantante, pianista e compositore Zakk Wylde.
Il nome del gruppo si riferisce al whisky Black Label, prodotto della Johnny Walker di cui Zakk Wylde era appassionato.

Gli Antimatter sono una band irlandese/inglese formata nel 1998 da Duncan Patterson (precedente bassista e compositore degli Anathema) e da Mick Moss.
Storia
La band registra nel 1999 un demo ma questo non ha molta fortuna, tanto che furono necessari quasi due anni perché si presentasse la prima etichetta, la Icon records. Con questa registrano e debuttano con l'album Saviour. Successivamente l'apporto dell'etichetta sembra non essere sufficiente per il gruppo e Duncan Patterson inaugura la sua etichetta personale Strangelight Records proprio con gli Antimatter, lasciando massima creatività al gruppo. I primi album degli Antimatter, Saviour e Lights Out, si focalizzano su una linea vocale melodica, un'elettronica dark ed i bilanciamenti sul confine tra il gothic e il trip hop, mentre gli altri lavori Planetary Confinement e Leaving Eden accompagnano più di un acustico basato su un suono di Melancholic Rock, ormai abbandonate le fredde e cupe atmosfere elettroniche per ritornare al vero suono degli strumenti. Poco dopo l'ultimazione dell'album Planetary Confinement, Patterson lascia la band. Moss ha continuato e ha realizzato il progetto del quarto album Leaving Eden, nei primi mesi del 2007.

Since their formation 15 years ago, and fronted by long-time member Mick Moss, Antimatter have moved through a broad range of musical identities. The debut âSaviourâ (best album and best newcomer of the year, Psycho! Magazine, 2001) launched the project with a heavy vein in electronica, whilst âPlanetary Confinementâ, four years later, saw a completely acoustic canvass. The next, much celebrated âLeaving Edenâ album sealed the chameleonic nature of Antimatter, portrayed this time as a classic rock outfit. Over the years, tracks have been selected for programming use by the BBC and MTV, others have crossed over to different genres with their use by German rapper Bushido, reaching number 14 and 16 in the German charts, whist Mossâ vocal guest on the single âBroken Smileâ helped the track reach the official number 1 spot in Armenia, in 2012. Antimatter have headlined at the prestigious âWave Gotik Treffenâ (2009), âHard Rock Laagerâ (2003) the recent â1st Annual Rock Festâ in Armenia. Most recently we have seen the new-wave influenced âFear Of A Unique Identityâ (entering the German newcomer charts at number 6), leaving us with the question, what will they sound like next? One thing is for sure, the introspective, sociological lyrics, dark musical vibe, and Mossâs soulful vocals, all staples of Antimatterâs trademark texture, will remain.

Ma è anche un compositore e un arrangiatore che ha collaborato con mostri sacri della tradizione italiana - come Gino Paoli, Andrea Bocelli e Zucchero. Nel suo primo libro, il saggio pop La musica fa crescere i pomodori (Rizzoli, 2017), ripercorre la propria vita all'insegna della musica ed esplora il connubio tra armonia e natura.

Nata a Los Angeles, ma cresciuta a Parigi, la cantante e presentatrice televisiva China Moses è una donna di spettacolo dallo charme irresistibile. Figlia della famosa cantante Dee Dee Bridgewater, dalla quale ha ereditato una voce e un senso del ritmo e dello spettacolo fuori dal comune, China si è fatta conoscere come cantante soul e R&B, ma non ha dimenticato le proprie radici e la sua passione per il jazz e il blues, e in particolare per Dinah Washington. Proprio a questa celeberrima cantante degli anni 50-60 è dedicato lo spettacolo This One's For Dinah, che la Moses presentrà ad Ascona col suo sestetto. Realizzato e concepito assieme al pianista, compositore e arrangiatore Raphaël Lemonnier, lo spettacolo è stato in tournée nell’ultimo anno nei migliori jazz club d’Europa, ottenendo un grande successo e rivelando il talento della Moses. This One's For Dinah è stato pubblicato anche su CD dalla prestigiosa etichetta Blue Note. Il tributo a Dinah Washington, vocalist entrata nella leggenda per la sua voce cristallina e penetrante oltre che per la sua vita movimentata conclusasi a soli 39 anni, sarà sicuramente una delle attrazioni della 26. edizione di JazzAscona.

Daughter of the famous singer Dee Dee Bridgewater, from whom she inherited her voice and exceptional sense of rhythm, in addition to her entertainment skills, China Moses gained recognition as a soul and R&B singer, but she never forgot her roots and her passion for jazz and blues, and in particular for her musical idol, the famous 1950s-1960s vocalist Dinah Washington, to whom she has dedicated her most recent show, This One's For Dinah, which she will present with her sextet at JazzAscona. China Moses put together the show with French pianist, arranger, and composer Raphaël Lemonnier. During this past year, the show has been featured on the stages of the best jazz clubs throughout Europe, garnering great success and revealing Moses' talent. This One's For Dinah was also released on CD by the prestigious Blue Note label. It is a tribute to Dinah Washington, a legendary performer known for her penetrating, crystalline voice, in addition to her short but intense life (Dinah died at age 39). I primi album degli Antimatter, Saviour e Lights Out, si focalizzano su una linea vocale melodica, un'elettronica dark ed i bilanciamenti sul confine tra il gothic e il trip hop, mentre gli altri lavori Planetary Confinement e Leaving Eden accompagnano più di un acustico basato su un suono di Melancholic Rock, ormai abbandonate le fredde e cupe atmosfere elettroniche per ritornare al vero suono degli strumenti. Poco dopo l'ultimazione dell'album Planetary Confinement, Patterson lascia la band. Moss ha continuato e ha realizzato il progetto del quarto album Leaving Eden, nei primi mesi del 2007.

Since their formation 15 years ago, and fronted by long-time member Mick Moss, Antimatter have moved through a broad range of musical identities. The debut âSaviourâ (best album and best newcomer of the year, Psycho! Magazine, 2001) launched the project with a heavy vein in electronica, whilst âPlanetary Confinementâ, four years later, saw a completely acoustic canvass. The next, much celebrated âLeaving Edenâ album sealed the chameleonic nature of Antimatter, portrayed this time as a classic rock outfit. Over the years, tracks have been selected for programming use by the BBC and MTV, others have crossed over to different genres with their use by German rapper Bushido, reaching number 14 and 16 in the German charts, whist Mossâ vocal guest on the single âBroken Smileâ helped the track reach the official number 1 spot in Armenia, in 2012. Antimatter have headlined at the prestigious âWave Gotik Treffenâ (2009), âHard Rock Laagerâ (2003) the recent â1st Annual Rock Festâ in Armenia. Most recently we have seen the new-wave influenced âFear Of A Unique Identityâ (entering the German newcomer charts at number 6), leaving us with the question, what will they sound like next? One thing is for sure, the introspective, sociological lyrics, dark musical vibe, and Mossâs soulful vocals, all staples of Antimatterâs trademark texture, will remain.

Il soprannome "Slash" gli fu affibiato da Seymour Cassel, padre di un suo amico d'infanzia. Si trova in 65ª posizione nella classifica dei 100 migliori chitarristi di tutti i tempi secondo la rivista Rolling Stone ed è annoverato fra le influenze primarie di Kenny Olson, Nashville Pussy, Hardliner, New American Shame, Jason Krause, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, ed altri ancora.
Myles Richard Kennedy (Boston, 27 novembre 1969) è un cantautore e chitarrista statunitense. Ispirata alla famosa colomba di Magritte, questa rielaborazione prende spunto dalla burrascosa esistenza del grande compositore. Una vera e propria tempesta, su cui si staglia la sagoma di un ritratto verdiano. Stampa colorata a mano dall'autore con aniline.
Formato 40X50 cm. Eseguito nel 1999, esposto per la prima volta a Busseto nel 2000 e successivamente in circa una dozzina di gallerie italiane fino alla fine del 2001.

Black Label Society, la band capitanata dal grandissimo e stimatissimo eroe della chitarra Zakk Wylde, è stata il supporto di Black Sabbath il 18 giugno all'Unipol Arena di Bologna. Il giorno successivo si esibiscono da headliner all'Alcatraz di Milano.
I Black Label Society sono una band heavy metal statunitense, fondata nel 1998 dal chitarrista, cantante, pianista e compositore Zakk Wylde.

The Australians è una swing band che riunisce esponenti di spicco della scena musicale australiana come l’arrangiatore e compositore Dan Barnett e il leggendario trombettista Bob Henderson. Ospite per tutti i 10 giorni della 28esima edizione di JazzAscona, il gruppo si annuncia ancora più elettrizzante con la presenza (nella seconda metà del festival) della cantante Emma Pask, “the greatest gift to Australian Jazz Vocals in the last decade”, letteralmente “il più gran regalo al jazz canoro australiano dell’ultimo decennio”, secondo James Morrison, uno dei jazzisti australiani più noti di sempre. Vincitrice del Mo Award 2006 come Jazz Vocalist of the Year, Emma Pask si è esibita in giro per il mondo. La performance con la BBC Concert Orchestra a Londra, con la Shanghai Symphony Orchestra in Cina e, ancora, in Italia, Laos, Nuova Zelanda e Singapore sono solo alcuni degli highlight della sua carriera.

Vera e propria star del jazz contemporaneo, Wycliffe è senza ombra di dubbio uno dei migliori trombonisti a livello mondiale. Sperimentatore a tutto campo, è conosciuto come performer, compositore, arrangiatore e brillante educatore. Già membro del Wynton Marsalis Septet e della Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, il musicista si esibisce oggi in tutto il mondo con la propria band, collaborando con artisti di spicco come il grande batterista di New Orleans Herlin Riley e giovani emergenti come il promettente pianista Aron Diehl, membro della band con cui si presenta ad Ascona. Gordon presenterà il suo ultimo album, Hello Pops! (A Tribute to Louis Armstrong), omaggio al musicista che, afferma, ha avuto un’influenza preponderante nella sua vita artistica.

A former veteran member of the Wynton Marsalis Septet and of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Gordon performs at concerts and festivals worldwide, both with his own quartet and as a guest musician alongside renowned artists such as New Orleans drummer Herlin Riley and the young promising pianist Aron Diehl, who is a member of the band with which he performs in Ascona. Zimmer ha ricevuto un Academy Award, 2 Goldn Globes, tre Grammys, un American Music Award e un Tony Award. L'ultima volta che è stato candidato all'Oscar è stato con Interstellar, quella è stata la decima nomantion della sua carriera. Nel 2003 la ASCAP lo ha voluto premiare la sua carriera con il prestigioso Henry Mancini Award. Nel 2010 ha ricevuto una stella sulla celebre Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

I Black Label Society sono una band heavy metal statunitense, fondata nel 1998 dal chitarrista, cantante, pianista e compositore Zakk Wylde.
Il nome del gruppo si riferisce al whisky Black Label, prodotto della Johnny Walker di cui Zakk Wylde era appassionato.

Innamorata di Ascona e del suo festival, la cantante americana Niki Haris non poteva scegliere un palcoscenico migliore per presentare al pubblico il suo nuovo sodalizio musicale (e a quanto si dice anche privato…) con il grande trombonista di New York, Wycliffe Gordon. Una collaborazione inedita, e per certi versi sorprendente, che, nell’ambito di un quintetto eccezionale in cui spicca anche il batterista Herlin Riley, promette emozioni a tutto campo, con l’incontro di due personalità artistiche molto diverse fra loro: eminentemente jazz sono infatti i riferimenti musicali di Gordon, più blues quelli di Haris.
Figlia d'arte (suo padre era il pianista Gene Harris), Niki Haris è un artista versatile, in grado di spaziare con la sua calda e romantica voce dalle grandi ballate americane al jazz, dal blues alla musica pop, ambito in cui ha lavorato con star mondiali come Madonna, Whitney Houston, Mick Jagger, Kyle Minogue e Santana.
Proclamato dal 2001 a oggi per ben cinque volte trombonista dell’anno dalla Jazz Journalists Association, Wycliffe Gordon, sarà invece per la prima volta ad Ascona. Vera e propria star del jazz contemporaneo, Wycliffe è senza ombra di dubbio uno dei migliori trombonisti a livello mondiale. Sperimentatore a tutto campo, è conosciuto come performer, compositore, arrangiatore e brillante educatore. Già membro del Wynton Marsalis Septet e della Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Gordon si esibisce oggi in tutto il mondo con il quartetto che porta il suo nome, collaborando con molti artisti di spicco.
Nel quintetto di Ascona troverà posto, come detto, anche il batterista di New Orleans Herlin Riley, musicista che dopo aver a lungo suonato con Wynton Marsalis (ma anche con Monty Alexander, George Benson e Ahmad Jamal, fra i tanti) è considerato uno dei più grandi musicisti viventi di New Orleans.

Vincitore di un Grammy Award proprio con la sua New Orleans Jazz Orchestra nel 2011, Irvin Mayfield oltre che versatile trombettista è anche compositore ed arrangiatore ed è uno dei musicisti più emblematici ed importanti emersi nella New Orleans risorta dopo Katrina, tragedia di cui nel 2015 ricorre il decimo anniversario e in cui Irvin perse il papà . Mayfield era già stato ammirato protagonista ad Ascona nel 2012, anno in cui si esibì con alcuni musicisti della sua orchestra.

Ein unverzichtbarer Moment am 31. JazzAscona Festival ist das Konzert der berühmten Sängerin Dee Dee Bridgewater und ihrer super Big Band aus New Orleans, welches am Montag, 29. Juni über die Bühne geht.
Dee Dee Bridgewater gehört seit vielen Jahren zu den meistbewunderten Sängerinnen, weltweit. Im Laufe ihrer beispiellosen Karriere stand sie als umjubelte Protagonistin auf den bedeutendsten Bühnen der ganzen Welt, in diversen Formationen und an der Seite von Topstars wie Thad Jones, Mel Lewis, Dexter Gordon, Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Sonny Rollins, Ray Charles. Ausgestattet mit einer einmaligen, unverwechselbaren Stimme, gilt sie als eine der wichtigsten Erbinnen der grossen Sängerinnen der goldenen Epoche des Jazz, wie Ella Fitzgerald oder Billie Holiday, denen sie übrigens zwei Alben gewidmet hat - "Dear Ella" (1998) und "Eleanora Fagan: To Billie with Love From Dee Dee Bridgewater" (2009). Gerade mit diesem New Orleans Jazz Orchestra gewann Irvin Mayfield 2011 einen Grammy. Der vielseitige Trompeter ist auch Komponist und Arrangeur und gehört zu den emblematischsten und bedeutendsten Musikern, die sich im neu erstandenen New Orleans nach Katrina einen Namen gemacht haben. Zehn Jahre sind seit der Hurrikan-Tragödie vergangen, in der Irvin seinen Vater verlor. Mayfield wurde schon 2012 am Festival in Ascona als Protagonist bewundert, zusammen mit einigen Musikern aus seinem Orchester.

Gli Antimatter sono una band irlandese/inglese formata nel 1998 da Duncan Patterson (precedente bassista e compositore degli Anathema) e da Mick Moss.
Storia
La band registra nel 1999 un demo ma questo non ha molta fortuna, tanto che furono necessari quasi due anni perché si presentasse la prima etichetta, la Icon records. Con questa registrano e debuttano con l'album Saviour. Successivamente l'apporto dell'etichetta sembra non essere sufficiente per il gruppo e Duncan Patterson inaugura la sua etichetta personale Strangelight Records proprio con gli Antimatter, lasciando massima creatività al gruppo. I primi album degli Antimatter, Saviour e Lights Out, si focalizzano su una linea vocale melodica, un'elettronica dark ed i bilanciamenti sul confine tra il gothic e il trip hop, mentre gli altri lavori Planetary Confinement e Leaving Eden accompagnano più di un acustico basato su un suono di Melancholic Rock, ormai abbandonate le fredde e cupe atmosfere elettroniche per ritornare al vero suono degli strumenti. Poco dopo l'ultimazione dell'album Planetary Confinement, Patterson lascia la band. Moss ha continuato e ha realizzato il progetto del quarto album Leaving Eden, nei primi mesi del 2007.

Since their formation 15 years ago, and fronted by long-time member Mick Moss, Antimatter have moved through a broad range of musical identities. The debut âSaviourâ (best album and best newcomer of the year, Psycho! Magazine, 2001) launched the project with a heavy vein in electronica, whilst âPlanetary Confinementâ, four years later, saw a completely acoustic canvass. The next, much celebrated âLeaving Edenâ album sealed the chameleonic nature of Antimatter, portrayed this time as a classic rock outfit. Over the years, tracks have been selected for programming use by the BBC and MTV, others have crossed over to different genres with their use by German rapper Bushido, reaching number 14 and 16 in the German charts, whist Mossâ vocal guest on the single âBroken Smileâ helped the track reach the official number 1 spot in Armenia, in 2012. Antimatter have headlined at the prestigious âWave Gotik Treffenâ (2009), âHard Rock Laagerâ (2003) the recent â1st Annual Rock Festâ in Armenia. Most recently we have seen the new-wave influenced âFear Of A Unique Identityâ (entering the German newcomer charts at number 6), leaving us with the question, what will they sound like next? One thing is for sure, the introspective, sociological lyrics, dark musical vibe, and Mossâs soulful vocals, all staples of Antimatterâs trademark texture, will remain.

The Australians è una swing band che riunisce esponenti di spicco della scena musicale australiana come l’arrangiatore e compositore Dan Barnett e il leggendario trombettista Bob Henderson. The Australians is a swing band made up of famous musicians from the Australian music scene, such as composer Dan Barnett and the legendary trumpeter Bob Henderson. The band will be at JazzAscona during the whole ten days and is expected to put on an electrifying show, also thanks to the presence of vocalist Emma Pask, “the greatest gift to Australian Jazz Vocals in the last decade” according to James Morrison, one of Australia's most famous jazzists. Winner of the Mo Award 2006, as Jazz Vocalist of the Year, Emma Pask has performed around the world. Some of her career highlights: performances together with the BBC Concert Orchestra in London, with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra in China and shows throughout Italy, Laos, New Zealand, and Singapore.
