ASCII art drawing composition

Ping Jiang Road, Suzhou, China

Looks like I didn't need to think about composition for this shot. When I saw this through the viewfinder, it was a perfectly composed photograph!

These are collages meant to play with composition and nothing else. They are a lot of fun to do. Blogged: caatjesartsystuff.blogspot.nl/2013/08/the-composition-boo...

While the diagonal lines that are found all over the baground, foreground and within the sparks give this shot an active feeling, I am most impressed by the fact that I was able capture the sparks in focus, and let my aperture undefine the rest.

I chose this image because of the rule of thirds. I feel as if the proportions are very pleasing to the eye. Also, because I used studio lights for this shot, the lack of harsh shadows is also appealing.

This is a long shot of Segui in front of the shed. I like how the long shot allows us to see his stance and a bit of his body language, and in terms of composition, I like the the use of color (there are some nice reds and browns throughout), but I'm not sure the yellow flashlight in the background helps. The photo does a decent job of aligning the center of interest according to the "rule of thirds."

I came up with an exercise for myself — free composition using simple geometric shapes. I start with a sketch of any shape in a random form and place on a square canvas, then try to develop the composition using light and shadow techniques and other shapes. Ideally, I want to achieve some sense of life, be it dynamics or mood. It feels like I’ve succeeded in some variations.

This composition was an interesting choice. It must have seemed like a good idea at the time.

Dixie was honestly my first time taking long exposures in dark rooms and I had no idea what I was doing. At times, that will show.

That isn't to say that I'm any kind of professional or expert now but I feel as if I've improved significantly despite still having little idea of what I'm doing... and that isn't to say that I hate all of these because I feel like some of them came out phenomenal. Just... not this one.

Landscape 1, An Attempt at astrophotography

Composition 1a and 1b are the same subject. I was trying to show the effects of different shutter speeds.

This image I was trying to show the water as a flowing blurred effect. Having moved from the settings I used for Composition 1a I slowed the shutter speed down, resulting in the image becoming very over exposed and washed out. So I adjusted the Aperture to F22. This made the image better but still very bright.

To obtain the same image as Composition 1a I had to reduce the ISO to 100.
