Another composite image.

The backgrounf is the exposed wood surface on a driftwood tree-trunk that has had the bark eroded/rotted off.

The foreground is what it looks like - a small hawthorn bush at a field edge

Hand held and then 2 images quickly layered. I may redo that.

This is a scan of my second composite project. The original is now in Tampa. With Sean. Because he moved.

This is frowned upon.

(The moving bit, not the fact that the piece is with Sean.)

I wanted to present an eerie feeling so when I edited these in Photoshop I left some of the softer erase marks. I used a tripod and Manual Mode to take these pictures.

First composite I've ever done... fun and challenging. Please critique.

CTG designs and manufactures composite bods, rods and bands which mechanically support the permanent magnet within the outer stainless steel housing of a MRI machine. CTG also offers a full kanban lineside service reacting to our clients’ every move. The composite materials are used for their thermal and strength properties and are provided as part of a larger ‘kit’ which make up the rest of the magnet suspension system.

Whew, that was exhausting.

Inspired by the many great composite photographers/artists on Flickr, I've been making the effort to develop my own skills in the arena of composite image creation, and I can tell you that my respect for those who do this well has only grown as I've discovered the many challenges that come along with executing and editing this kind of work.

Thanks for all the inspriation fellow Flickr-mates!

I like the look of this large.

The children’s chair Parupu was launched at the Milan Furniture Fair in April 2009 by Södra Cell, Claesson Koivisto Rune and Innventia. Behind it lie many years of research. The material for this chair – a new composite material based on cellulose and biodegradable PLA – has been developed within the Cluster Research programme at Innventia.

Carbon fiber reinforced polymer or carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP or CRP), is a very strong, light, and expensive composite material or fiber reinforced polymer. Similar to fiberglass (glass reinforced polymer), the composite material is commonly referred to by the name of its reinforcing fibers (carbon fiber). The polymer is most often epoxy, but other polymers, such as polyester, vinyl ester or nylon, are also sometimes used. Some composites contain both carbon fiber and other fibers such as kevlar, aluminium and fiberglass reinforcement. The terms graphite-reinforced polymer or graphite fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) are also used but less commonly, since glass-(fiber)-reinforced polymer can also be called GFRP. In product advertisements, it is sometimes referred to simply as graphite fiber (or graphite fibre), for short.

This composite needed a lot of work in post to make the lighting look even remotely realistic. It was tricky because the background image was shot on a nice, but fairly dark evening, and the portrait image was shot on a very bright day. I used a location flash to light the faces of each image, which made things a little easier - it was just a case of getting a balanced contrast. I still think there may be a little too much contrast i my subjects clothing, which makes it look a touch out of place.
