I don't do many composites. And to be honest, I am not sure why. I have always just been happy with capturing a scene naturally and it wasn't until lately where I started experimenting and trying some new things.

I took the sky from another image I posted recently, the one with the headlamp on a road. I really like the texture in the sky so I thought I would add it to one of my looking up at architecture shots.

I masked over the bottom bit it still wasn't right. I was left with bright blue in the building's reflection so I duplicated the sky and blended it through again giving it the pink hue.

It gives the image much more drama and mystery and the gradient in the sky matches up so well with the edge of the building, almost like it is back-lit and glowing.

This is a stack of several shots, used "lighten" blend mode in Photoshop to combine them.

So, I bought a green screen the other day and thought I would try my hand at the chroma key thing. It wasn't too bad, actually pretty easy for the cut-out, but I was still getting a green cast on myself no matter how far away I was. I gave up and shot it and color corrected in CS3. Then, went downtown and took a photo of the alley here in Savannah, GA and did a composite. PP done in CS3.

Strobist: 1x AB1600 in beauty dish high camera right, large reflector camera left for fill, 2x AB800s bare far left/right for rim lighting. 2x Sunpak 433Ds were used bare (cardboad on sides to protect from spill over on me) to illuminate the backdrop. Cactus V2s were used on the Sunpaks and fired the Alien Bees optically.

Set-up shot here.

A composite of two recent images, the moon and clouds.

Gnorman enjoying a cold one with a couple of old friends.

Composite of a Shirley taken at Whitby Goth Festival in April 2013. Thanks to Black Dog for his help and guidance on this one!

Forensic portrait from the anthropomorphology laboratories at the Home for Wayward Baby Dolls. Hi baby. Most of the specimens at the Home are deceased, but I don't know about this one. Those are certainly some pretty nasty radiation burns around the cheek area, and she was absolutely nailed to the barn. But the little doll moved so convincingly. View small (for god's sake!). Composed of three composited images.

It's just a cup of troubles,

Nothing too big.

You could drink it on down,

In a single swig.

But If you let them sit,

Then they'll all build up,

And soon you'll be drowning,

In your little teacup.

My third composite texture. Went for more diverse color in this one. Enjoy.

Photo Art Composite

A few days ago a storm system developed to our west and I went to the hill where I usually photograph the thunderstorms coming from the west. The problem was that my kit lens only goes down to 16mm which is 24mm in 35mm terms. That wasn't wide enough because I couldn't get in the frame the entire structure of the storm which was massive. So I decided to take several photographs and in the end I had 12 photos in total. I made this panorama in Photoshop and the end result is 50.94 Mpix and has this fisheye-like distorsion which I like. In this way I could capture the base and the huge anvil with these amazing mammatus cluds.

This is one of my first composite ever, the background is an HDR photo I took in Florida and the guy is a good friend of mine, a french actor. It is one of my most popular composite and one of my favorite. Do you guys prefer composite or simple portrait?
