1912 dated postcard view of a parade in Vallonia, Indiana. A crowd was on hand to watch the parade, but only two wagons and a pair men on horses with flags and banners were captured in this scene. This appears to be the main street in town. The street was unpaved and wasn’t identified. The flags indicate it was a holiday celebration.

The second wagon was clearly carrying Vallonia Band members and the first wagon may have been carrying band members as well. Another postcard shows the Vallonia Band, but was undated. There were 12 members when that postcard portrait was taken and they were wearing uniforms with caps. In this parade postcard, the drummer (or drummers?) on the second wagon wasn’t wearing a uniform.

Two business signs at the left edge of the scene are unreadable. The two signs near the center of the scene are unclear, but one of them includes the name _. F. TURMAIL at the bottom. The Jackson County Genealogy Trails website lists George F. Turmail as a merchant in Vallonia back then.

1913 postmarked postcard view of the chapel on the St. Joseph’s College campus at Rensselaer, Indiana. The college was on the south side of Rensselaer along the west side of South College Avenue. The chapel is still there. It faces north and this view was looking south.
