The sculpture is made of many separate elements nailed to a central core and incorporates images of power, such as horsemen, imported goods, military insignia, rifles and wild beasts. Such works act as the fixed rallying points of different social groups at public displays of dancing.

The complex is one of the landmark buildings along the Boulevard. To the west will be the Grand Mosque and to the east across the Boulevard, the Palace of Justice.
Designed as a complex of interconnected spaces that will reflect a distinct presence in Precinct 3, the building is a contemporary interpretation of traditional Islamic architecture. The main feature is the Gateway or Gerbang with a public viewing deck on the top most level that allows for a breathtaking view of the city skyline that includes the Palace of Justice and the Grand Mosque. The gateway will also provide a vantage point during parades.
The main building comprises four simple volumes integrated within courtyards while along the Boulevard, the arcade will open up to incorporate a landscaped Qiblat Walk. In the Gallery flanking the Qiblat Walk, meeting rooms are suspended to give an impressive façade. A continuous suspended garden will crown the top of the gallery to provide natural views from the Dataran through to the waterfront to the west of the building.
The conference facilities and Auditorium are designed as a complex of low-rise medium sized buildings connected by pedestrian links with boutique retail spaces on the ground floor of each component. The façade on the Boulevard is a network of arcades with elegant intricate mesh screens of geometrical patterns providing protection from the sun.

This ornament was made as a gift to a friend's parents for always making me feel welcomed in their home. The "frame" is made of thirty pieces of paper and the central "cube" is made of twelve pieces.
The data was created with a perl script and turned into a beautiful svg image using gnuplot. The LaTeX formulas were added to it with Inkscape and the "Tex-Text" extension.
For years now, microbiologist Wayne Lanier and I have hiked from Alviso’s Marina County Park north along the salt pond levees to visit a site we call the Weep (see baynature.org/article/out-at-the-weep/ ). The path parallels an active railroad track that dates back to the South Pacific Coast Railroad in the 1870s. This line stretches from Newark to Alviso and was the first rail line to cross Bay Area marshlands.
On this particular outing, I launched the kite from the levee between Salt Ponds A13 and A15 and then slowly walked back to the Alviso trailhead. Photographs taken along the route provide coverage of the Weep, the railroad grade with its flanking ditches, salt ponds, and New Chicago Marsh. The Alviso flat area, a curious carve out between the salt ponds and the railroad grade, was still full of runoff from our winter rains.
I am taking these documentary photographs under a Special Use Permit from the Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge. Kite flying is prohibited over this part of the Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge without a Special Use Permit. The area does have many trails open for hiking and is well worth a visit.
