The common moorhen, also known as the waterhen or swamp chicken, is a bird species in the rail family. It is distributed across many parts of the Old World. The common moorhen lives around well-vegetated marshes, ponds, canals and other wetlands.
Despite its common name, only male specimens of common blue butterfly (Polyommatus icarus) can accurately be described as blue; the females are predominately gray-brown, with only a dusting of blue and a scattering of orange spots. The adults live for only three weeks before dying.
One of a series of shots of common kingfishers, (Alcedo atthis). These were photographed from the North Marshes hide at Tophill Low nature reserve in East Yorkshire, UK. There is quite a lot of vegetation growing at the edges of the water, making a clear view a little tricky at this time of year and the distance from the hide to the nearest likely perches is a bit further than some of the other hides at the reserve, but this was where the kingfishers were favouring when I visited last week.

I was following this bird for five month this was the the closest shot for it.
A trip to Slimbridge, Gloucestershire in early November 2023. The water levels on the lagoons on the outer fields were starting to rise and the winter birds starting to arrive.

The Common Gull looks like a small, gentler version of the Herring Gull, with greenish legs and a yellow bill.
Common Tern in amongst several circling Black Headed Gulls hunting insects on the wing.

I saw quite a few Common Buckeyes on a walk this weekend. This one was nectaring on milkweed with deeply shaded water going under a road in the background.

The Common Sergeant Butterfly is native to South and Southeast Asia. The topside, is black with white bars and spots whereas the underside is bright tan with white and black markings.
Seen in Edinburgh Butterfly and Insect World.
