A trip out to the Cotswolds in search of a Short Eared Owl.
It was very cold but no rain.
This Buzzard put in an appearance ofter a long period of no activity.
Now the most common and widespread UK bird of prey, the Buzzard is quite large with broad, rounded wings, and a short neck and tail. When gliding and soaring, it will often hold its wings in a shallow 'V' and the tail is fanned. Buzzards vary in colour from all dark brown to much paler variations, but all have dark wingtips and a finely-striped tail.
Very skittish birds that fly away as soon as they detect your presence! However, their timid natures did at least allow me to take a few in-flight shots which I have not managed prior to this.

I found two yellow butterflies and two empty pupa shells on the branches of a small silktree in a pot right by the kitchen door. All those days while the chrysalises there, I failed to notice them. I could have witnessed them turning into these beautiful butterflies!!
Kestrels are the most common bird of prey in Europe, although their numbers have declined in Britain over the last few years. Their habit of hovering, particularly near motorways, means they are also one of the easiest to spot. Whilst hovering they have the extraordinary ability to keep their head totally still, even in strong winds. This allows them to pinpoint and catch small mammals by sight alone. If prey is abundant, kestrels sometimes kill more than they need and cache what they don’t eat.
Common Assassin Bugs (Pristhesancus plagipennis) have the long head with powerful proboscis. They use the powerful proboscis to puncture their prey. Their legs are long so that they have long attack distance. Adult bugs are brown in colour with transparent wings. Nymphs are dark brown to black with brightly orange abdomens.
Straight Out Of Camera (SOOC)
This is a common sight near the beaches at Digha and Puri. But one shouldn't eat them unless and until they are very sure about their quality.
One thing you can do is to inform the hotel (place) where you are staying at about your wishes and they will cook them for you. You have to either buy them the food or pay them extra money.
But that will ensure that you are eating fresh/good quality food.
Cleeve Common.
The common puffball grows on the ground in woodlands and grasslands, often occurring in small clusters. When a fruiting body is mature, a hole opens at the top. When the puffball is bumped by a passing animal or even hit by raindrops, a cloud of spores is puffed out of the hole. The spores will drift away on the wind and help the fungus spread.

The Common Pochard, known simply as Pochard in the United Kingdom, is a medium-sized diving duck.
In winter and spring, male Pochards are very distinctive. They have a bright reddish-brown head, a black breast and tail and a pale grey body. Females are more easily confused with other species – they are brown with a greyish body and pale cheeks.
The Pochard is similar in appearance to the Redhead, but they can be identified by their Red eye rather than the Yellow eye of the latter.
Common Eutaxia (Eutaxia microphylla) - my first time seeing this species. Seen at Hallett Cove Conservation Area, South Australia.
The teasel is probably best-known for its brown, prickly stems and conical seed heads, which persist long after the plants themselves have died back for the winter.
Between July and August, when teasels are in flower, the spiky flower heads are mostly green with rings of purple flowers.
Found in damp grassland and field edges, or on disturbed ground, such as roadside verges and waste grounds, they are visited by bees when in flower, and birds when seeding.
The teasel is a tall plant, often reaching the height of a person. They have thorns all the way up their stems and a cone-like flower head that gives the plant the impression of an oversized cottonbud.
The flowers are tiny and purple, clustering together and appearing in rings up and down the flower head; the familiar seed heads turn brown in winter.
They also make brilliant dried arrangements, specially if sprayed gold or silver for Christmas!
The Common teasel was used for carding wool prior to spinning, though I prefer to use my Ashford Drum Carder for that job!
The seeds of the teasel are very important for birds, such as the Goldfinch, which can often be seen alighting on the old, brown flower heads in autumn to 'tease' the seeds from them!
