Common Pheasant / phasianus colchicus. Orford Marshes, Suffolk. 25/02/19.
The start of a wonderful late February day on the marsh. This image was made shortly after first light when the frost still lay heavy on the ground and I was hunkered down in a pop-up hide.
This is the sort of picture I’d hoped for, but with Red-legged Partridge as the subject. They however didn’t play ball when I wanted them to, casually sauntering into view at midday, sun blazing down and frosty grass long gone!
I had no complaints when this fine Pheasant came almost within touching distance of me ... my first catch of the day :-)

Common Frog / rama temporaria. Garden, Derbyshire. 12/03/21.
I was delighted to find this beauty hunkered down in the log pile last week. Frogs (and toads), make great garden inhabitants because they eat various invertebrate pests. Inevitably I disturb one or two when watering near the rockery, during summer evenings.
I don't know if this was a garden resident or one merely passing through, perhaps to/from a breeding site nearby. It was left in peace after I'd made a few images and when I checked some hours later, it was nowhere to be seen. Hopefully it decided the top end of the garden would make a suitable place to settle!
“Common Kingfisher" also known as the Eurasian kingfisher, and river kingfisher, is a small kingfisher resident in much of its range, but migrates from areas where rivers freeze in winter. It feeds mainly on fish, caught by diving, and has special visual adaptations to enable it to see prey under water. The glossy white eggs are laid in a nest at the end of a burrow in a riverbank.

Way to go!! Out he pops and I had the wrong settings on the camera!! Nevertheless, I was able to salvage this one with post processing tweaking. I hope to get some better shots during this summer.
The common tailorbird (Orthotomus sutorius) is a songbird found across tropical Asia. Popular for its nest made of leaves "sewn" together and immortalized by Rudyard Kipling in his Jungle Book, it is a common resident in urban gardens
With the rubbish weather today it hadn;t even crossed my mind to look for butterflies. However, when I was walking back to the car I spotted a gatekeeper. So I thought I would check a few areas which are usually home to some common blues. I was pleasantly surprised to find a couple along with a small copper
Not a lot around birdwise at Summer Leys at the moment however, there are quite a few fungi including a small patch of common bonnets right by the car park
One of several common carder bees (Bombus pascuorum) I photographed one day many years ago, in my parents' garden. This one is sitting on a devil's-bit. They were also sitting on lavender and brown knapweed.
This bumblebee species is present in most of Europe in a wide variety of habitats- such as meadows, pastures, waste ground, ditches and embankments, roads and field margins, as well as gardens and parks in urban areas and forests and forest edges.
