COMMERCIAL INTERIOR DESIGN FOR HIGHTOPS | RETAIL DISPLAYS

Colorado Springs, Colorado

situation

Committed to quality service and prompt delivery, Hightops has been servicing the residents and visitors of Colorado Springs since 2010. Originally operating under the name Pain Management Solutions, this seasoned retailer was looking for a refreshed brand image and retail store design to match. Entrusting High Roads Design Studio with this updated vision and Britten WoodWorks with the fabrication of concept, Hightops hoped for an enlightened retail interior that remained true to their values of quality customer service and reliability.

solution

High Roads Design Studio envisioned a modern, commercial interior design for this established storefront. Calling for bright tones, mixed material accents, and a functional, flowing space for retail displays, the concept was handed off to Britten WoodWorks to complete. Crafting the expansive point of sale counter, merchandise slatwalls, free floating backwall shelves, and even the slim solid surface queue rail, the entire interior was transformed into an enviable retail store design. Complimented by interior and exterior signage, directional displays, and dimensional lettering, this updated interior completed by WoodWork’s had Hightops ready for its bold and refreshed debut.

impact

An effective fabricator well-versed in retail interior creation, WoodWorks demonstrated once again their ability for quality craftsmanship. Undertaking the value engineering, space planning and millwork for this project, WoodWorks asserted its reputation as a thorough and solution-oriented partner. Stunning in its execution, the completed interior for Hightops is a testament to WoodWorks capability and an endorsement as a precise fabricator able to convert complex renderings into exacting realities.

On Rescuer's Day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the personnel of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, congratulated them on their professional holiday, and awarded state honors.

He emphasized that today is the professional holiday of all those whose job and calling is to save lives.

"Whatever happens, the SES of Ukraine is always there to help, and always promptly. They remain fully committed to their most important mission: saving lives," said the President.

The President inspected samples of automotive and robotic equipment. In particular, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko and SES Head Andriy Danyk reported on the use of surface drones and robotic systems for mine disposal.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukrainian rescuers have responded to over 170,000 shelling occasions and extinguished more than 20,000 fires. SES sappers have neutralized over half a million explosive devices.

As a result of Russian aggression, 97 SES personnel have been killed, 395 injured, and 4 are currently held in Russian captivity.

The attendees observed a minute of silence to honor all those Ukraine has lost due to the war.

The President presented the Order of the Golden Star to the family of the fallen Hero of Ukraine, Lieutenant Colonel of the Civil Protection Service Artem Kostyria. The Lieutenant Colonel participated in over 70 operations to mitigate the consequences of Russian attacks. After the liberation of the Kharkiv region, he organized the restoration of nearly 100 damaged fire and rescue units. Thanks to his efforts, over 2,400 people were evacuated. Artem Kostyria was killed on July 13 this year while responding to the aftermath of an enemy missile strike when Russian forces launched a second ballistic missile attack.

The President also awarded SES employees the Orders "For Courage", II and III class, and the Order of Danylo Halytskyi.

Additionally, in Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s presence, the winners of the nationwide "Hero – Rescuer of the Year" campaign were honored. Eight Ukrainians received awards:

Oleh Holubchenko, a maxillofacial surgeon from the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital. On July 8 of this year, during a Russian missile strike, he was performing surgery. Medical equipment failed, but he found alternative ways to maintain breathing and carried the child to shelter. Despite his injuries, he assisted rescuers and volunteers in clearing the hospital’s rubble.

Artem Makarov, a cadet at Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs. In April of this year, he saved an eight-year-old boy whom his own mother tried to drown.

Andriy Bibik, a police officer in the Novopillia community. In one of the villages, he noticed thick smoke near the houses. An outbuilding was on fire, and the flames were spreading toward homes. Andriy rescued a 13-year-old girl, an infant, and two dogs.

Yuliia Oholikhina, a personnel specialist at the SES in the Zaporizhzhia region. While on vacation, she saw a child drowning in a pool. She pulled the girl out of the water and provided first aid.

Andriy Lubenets, a Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman. Severely wounded in the war, last September, near a pond, he heard a 17-year-old boy’s cry for help. Despite his injured leg, Andriy swam to the boy and pushed him 20 meters to safety with one arm. Patrol police officers helped pull the boy out of the water and resuscitate him.

Ihor Kalashnyk, an electrician at a construction hypermarket. In May of this year, after Russian aerial bombs hit the hypermarket, he fully shut down the power to the building and helped evacuate four visitors from a smoke-filled area. He also removed generator barrels with fuel from the premises to prevent another explosion.

Polina Sholokh, a SES signaller. While at a car wash, she heard a woman screaming. Next to her was a boy with no signs of life, who had been pulled out of a drainage pit. Polina immediately began CPR, and after several minutes, the boy was breathing again.

Oleksandr Zhuk, a physical education teacher. Near a lake, he heard cries for help and saw three girls in the water. One had already lost consciousness and was pulling another down. Oleksandr rescued two of the girls from the water, while the third made it to the shore on her own.

Manifestación en Madrid a favor de la memoria histórica por las víctimas del franquismo y como apoyo al juez Garzón. Puerta del Sol . Sábado 24 de Abril de 2010 a las 20h

These are images of the rally for the victims of Franco's dictatorship in Madrid in solidarity with Justice Baltasar Garzón and for the Historical Memory. Puerta del Sol, Saturday 24 April 2010, 8pm.

Garzon, who ordered the arrest of Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet in 1998 under the principle of "universal jurisdiction" which held that grave crimes committed abroad can be tried in Spain, now faces two court cases himself.

Earlier this month he was indicted for exceeding his authority by opening an investigation in 2008 into crimes committed by General Francisco Franco's regime in Spain that were covered by an amnesty.

"Fascists get out of the courts," "Universal justice," and "More judges like Garzon," cried the thousands at the rally in Madrid which drew Spanish film director Pedro Almodovar as well as other artists and celebrities, marching out from Puerta de Alcalá to Puerta del Sol.

Planning Prospects for the Reconstruction and Recovery of Mosul Discussed with Key Partners

Baghdad, 22 October 2017 – The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), under the patronage of the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, hosted a seminar in Baghdad to discuss Planning Prospects for the Reconstruction and Recovery of Mosul. The event gathered a wide range of partners, including the national and local government counterparts, United Nations agencies, donors, NGOs, academic institutions, and media.

Mr. Bashar Kiki, Head of Ninewa Governorate Council, stated that the lack of good planning in Mosul is causing a ‘chaos’, and now is the time to put an end to it by ensuring coordination among all relevant actors. Mr. Kiki also discussed about the link between urban development and human development, underlining the importance of incorporating the view of the local population. “The people of Mosul are very resourceful,” he remarked, “we have to see how they already cope with the crises, and support them in their efforts where possible… It is important to build trust between local people and local government through transparency and accountability”.

Ms. Lise Grande, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, assured that the United Nations is committed to help Mosul through the Stabilization Programme of UNDP and the contributions of other UN agencies, and she referred to the Recovery and Resilience Programme (RRP) to be presented at the upcoming conference in Kuwait and UN-Habitat’s new data portal to support planning and implementation of the RRP.

Dr. Muzahim Al Khyatt, President of Ninewa University and Coordinator of the Reconstruction for Mosul, presented the overview of challenges faced by Mosul and sub-urban areas, and emphasized the importance of strategic planning and collaborating with the private sector.

Drawing on previous planning experiences in conflict-affected areas, Mr. Rogier van den Berg, Project Leader of UN-Habitat’s Urban Planning and Design Lab, clarified that strategic planning has the potential to accelerate decision making, and coordinate parallel processes, such as the long process of the restoration of the Old City, and defining key projects that need to be realized on the short term.

During the panel discussion, Mr. Mostaffa Elhiti, Head of the Reconstruction Fund, reiterated the need of finding new ways of planning in the city, stressing the need for a dynamic and strategic plan to respond to the needs in Mosul quickly.

Several thousand origami cranes were presented to U.S. Army Japan on behalf of the Japan Women’s Association as a gesture of appreciation for the unit’s support dur¬ing relief efforts following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami Oct. 14. Eight members of the JWA, or Nihon Josei no Kai, visited Camp Zama to present collections of 1,000 each of the colorful folded-paper cranes – or senbazuru, a traditional Japanese gift that promises good fortune – to six representatives from various USARJ organizations.

The Superfortress’ first ever flight was in 1942, with active service starting in 1944. B-29s were used extensively during the final stages of the American Pacific campaign in WWII. B-29s were also used in the Korean War in the early 1950s and were a staple of the U.S. Air Force for more than a decade. The plane that would become FIFI was saved from use as a ground target for weaponry tests in the 1960. It was christened in honor of the wife of Col. Victor N. Agather, who had been on the wartime development team for the aircraft and had been personally committed and involved with the airplane’s restoration in the early 1970s.

Once in a lifetime rides will be available on FIFI while it is in Lake Charles. Those interested should go to www.airpowersquadron.org to get specific information and to reserve their ride. Admission tickets are sold separately to attend the Chennault International Airshow.
