Rik Poot (1924 Vilvoorde - 2006 Jette ) is a strongly socially committed Flemish artist. In the initial period, his work was more abstract. Later on, he used a more figurative art form, within classical modernism. Essential to Rik Poot's formal language are the hollow spaces between the bronze parts from which his sculptures are constructed. By creating these openings, his monumental sculptures simultaneously acquire something light and a certain fragility. This gives his works a powerful and expressive rhythm. He was a great advocate of craftsmanship. He stated: "Without craftsmanship you cannot make art. An artist is a craftsman."

Later hanteerde hij een meer figuratieve kunstvorm, binnen het klassiek modernisme. Essentieel in de vormentaal van Rik Poot zijn de holle ruimten tussen de bronzen delen waaruit zijn beelden zijn opgebouwd. Door die openingen te creëren krijgen zijn monumentale beelden tegelijk iets lichts en een zekere fragiliteit. Zijn werken kregen daarmee een krachtig en expressief ritme mee. Hij was een groot voorvechter van vakmanschap. Zij stelde hij: “Zonder vakmanschap kan je onmogelijk kunst maken. Een kunstenaar is een stielman.”

Garzon, who ordered the arrest of Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet in 1998 under the principle of "universal jurisdiction" which held that grave crimes committed abroad can be tried in Spain, now faces two court cases himself.
Earlier this month he was indicted for exceeding his authority by opening an investigation in 2008 into crimes committed by General Francisco Franco's regime in Spain that were covered by an amnesty.
"Fascists get out of the courts," "Universal justice," and "More judges like Garzon," cried the thousands at the rally in Madrid which drew Spanish film director Pedro Almodovar as well as other artists and celebrities, marching out from Puerta de Alcalá to Puerta del Sol.

Over the past decade Keesmaat has worked in municipalities across Canada – including Moncton, Halifax, Mississauga, Peterborough, London, Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, and Vancouver – on the development of site plans, urban design guidelines, official plan reviews, corridor studies, culture plans, secondary plans and university campus master plans. Her planning practice is characterized by an emphasis on collaborations across sectors, and broad engagement with municipal staff, councils, developers, business leaders, NGO’s and residents associations.

These are images of the rally for the victims of Franco's dictatorship in Madrid in solidarity with Justice Baltasar Garzón and for the Historical Memory. Puerta del Sol, Saturday 24 April 2010, 8pm.
Garzon, who ordered the arrest of Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet in 1998 under the principle of "universal jurisdiction" which held that grave crimes committed abroad can be tried in Spain, now faces two court cases himself.
Earlier this month he was indicted for exceeding his authority by opening an investigation in 2008 into crimes committed by General Francisco Franco's regime in Spain that were covered by an amnesty.
"Fascists get out of the courts," "Universal justice," and "More judges like Garzon," cried the thousands at the rally in Madrid which drew Spanish film director Pedro Almodovar as well as other artists and celebrities, marching out from Puerta de Alcalá to Puerta del Sol.

I used pop round his place on a Sunday morning now and then one Sunday I left with this he new I had pinched it, still feel bad about it even worse was the time he came round to mine, I was in the middle of extreme difficulty £20 a week apprentice wages electric cut off for 9 months Mother ill Father Fucked off to London and one evening Mike knocked on my door hadn't seen him for ages and he was desperate for money he required new tyres on his Ford Capri and here he was with that best offer anyone could be made, a 7" singles box full with 75 singles, all his Punk rarities anything of value, I need money he said give me £25 quid he said, I really didn't have it and if I did I can assure it would of gone on them even though I was in no position to realistically be forking out for them, he was nearly in tears obviously been round the 2nd hand shops to be offered even less, as he trudged back to his car give me £15 then I really really don't have it Mike a low point all round I hate not being able to help anyone out especially someone who I owed big time. I've never seen Mike Parsons from that day until this, so if you read this Mike I owe you £30 for the Bowie single !
