Gemma was visiting for the weekend.
Friday night we went out to Beverley to the East Riding Theatre to see a comedy night.
First time I had been in there. It was a great venue and Beverley is such a pretty town anyway. Buy wow, it was hot in the venue. No air conditioning. I'm very glad we had our battery-powered fans! We would have melted in there otherwise.
Had a cracking night and got the train back to Hull.

I took my Mum to the Hull Indoor Food Hall for dinner. She had not tried the gyros and halloumi fries from Greko before. We had a lovely time!

As is our tradition, Gemma came to Hull for Christmas.
The night before New Year, we went for a night on Prince's Avenue around a few bars. That was after a hearty tea of home made steak pie and double-cooked chips! :-)

AnyShopStyle is one of more distinctive and coherently-curated of the huge crop of online fashion retail start-ups that have been the talk of the town for the last two years. Founded by long-time Beijing fashion writer Alice McInerney among others, the site focused initially just on quirky designs of young Chinese designers but has now opened up to include some foreign talents as well.
This Sunday from four to eight, AnyShopStyle will be hosting a pop-up shop right in Beijing’s Opposite House. Work of designers from the website will be available for the public to touch, feel and try on. Fashion brands include LUVON by Liu Lu, Sara Yun, NEEMIC, Mandarin & General, TwS, funky, animalistic Yang Du, Elysee Yang, Madeleine Thompson, and Candy & Caviar. Our friend Trisha was up in Hull so we met up with her on Friday night. We tried a new place in the Prince's Quasy shopping centre called Iron Lilies, a nice looking new bar that has opened, but you had to book a table and we hadn't so we ended up sat outside for a drink.
After that we went to the Old Town to the Scale and Feather, before heading back to The Star to finish the evening. A lovely time!

Sunday night we went to see our lovely and so talented friends Smooth Operator playing in Hedon.
We went for delicious food at the Camerton pub beforehand and even managed dessert before heading to see the gig.
Helen (the singer in Smooth Operator) even borrowed my Orinoco womble to wear while she was singing Wombling Merry Christmas, ha ha!

My social life is definitely back on track after a few weeks out! Gemma was up again in Hull and Friday night we once again went to Cognac French restaurant then on to Prince's Avenue.
I loved the dress I was wearing for the first time - I love the shoulder detail which gives it a very sci-fi feel!
What a great night. The fod was divine at Cognac. We took in a few bars on Prince's Avenue - although my favourite 80 Days was full so we couldn't get in there. Instead we went in Pave, Accomplice, Atom then back to Pave for a last drink.

On 9 May 2015, the European Union celebrates Europe Day in its Member States and around the world. To mark the occasion, the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz and Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy / Vice-President of the Commission (HRVP) will open the EU Pavilion of EXPO Milan and exchange views with over 1 000 citizens to hear their ideas and views about the EU.
How sustainable can our future be? What is the EU role in promoting a safe and efficient use of natural resources? The Citizens' Dialogue will showcase how the EU takes up these challenges.
The theme of the World Expo 2015 in Milan Expo, "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life", is of crucial importance for the European Union.
Following a flag-raising ceremony with the EU anthem to mark the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, President Schulz and HR/VP Federica Mogherini, will exchange views with students and EXPO visitors on how the EU should look in the future, how it can face the challenges of sustainability and what its role in the international arena should be. They will discuss on the European Union, its policies regarding sustainability, and the role of Europe in the world.
The debate will be moderated by Monica Maggioni, Director of RaiNews24. Citizens can debate in person or submit comments using the Twitter hashtag #EUdialogues.
After the Citizens' Dialogue, President Schulz and HR/VP Mogherini will officially open the EU Pavilion.

Hey look some landscape photography. Something I never get around to shooting as much as I'd like to. Whenever I get to shoot by water I always like to do long exposures but thats just me, its part of the reason why I own a 10 stop ND filter. So today I got to tag along with my teacher and some of the students that are a year under me to Port Stanley. My professor from last year wanted me to show him this spot I went to with a couple of my friends when we were there last year. It's the same location where I shot Timeless Rock, which I re-edited and uploaded here a couple weeks ago, though that rock wasn't there anymore oddly enough. The water level was definitely higher today compare to last year but I don't think it was high enough for that rock to go under but who knows. My professor also wanted me to teach some of the students a little about the proper use of ND filters. Can't say I really ended up teaching a lot of the students mainly because of a lot of them went off and did their own thing and didn't seem to interested in what I had to say but whatever. I'm sure at least one person got something out of it.
Other funny notes for today include the fact that myself and another student both walked right into the water to get a few shots, only difference was that I managed to keep my pants, socks and shoes dry where as his jeans and shoes got soaked. The water was quite cold too, so thankfully I didn't get it nearly as bad as the other guy. Second funny part was the fact that my camera went for a drink for the third time today. After I got out of the water I placed my camera and tripod (at its max height too) on the rocky uneven ground and it tipped over, one of the students (same guy that went in the water) tried to catch it but couldn't make it in time, funny enough I turned around to watch it fall and just went meh and didn't try to catch it or anything and just went "it'll be fine". As always everyone around me was freaking out a little wondering if my camera was alright but I was confident that it can take a beating and I still am. It also got dinged by the rocks as well but like I said its fine. Though my ND filter has a nice gash on it now but its still totally useable.
Alright now if your still interested and not tired of reading some info about the actual photo. This was actually one of the last photos I got before we left. All the students left and my professor was doing trips with his car to get them back to the bus which left me with some time to take a few of my own photos. I saw this piece of wrought iron in the distance when I was "teaching" and wanted to get a photo of it before we left. So once all the students left I made the quick trek over to it. Thankfully it was somewhat close to the shore but it was because of this shot I got my boots and socks wet since I had to go into the water for this photo. Should have worn my waterproof boots, well next time right? For this photo I used my 50mm lens since I needed to compress the background so I would have a cleaner background. I had my 10 stop ND filter on it (thank god I finally got step down rings for it) and I hand held my 2 stop graduated ND filter to bring back some detail in the sky. It was a pretty dull day when we were there and not to much cloud detail but its still alright. My favourite shot of the day. Check out the comments to see two other shots I got today.
