I had a wonderful day out visiting my old school friend Paul and his beautiful family.

Afterwards a bit of a glam night in at home, trying on a beautiful new dress which I love!

I just adore dogs!

The Courts is an early Georgian mansion built in the baroque style. It was described as newly-built in 1731 when it and adjacent dyehouse and workshops belonged to the clothier John Phelps. At the end of the 18th century a woollen cloth factory was built there, but all the industrial works were demolished a century later.

The Courts Gardens were initially designed by Dr [later Sir] George Hastings 1902-1905. Much of what can be seen today was planted by Major Clarence and Lady Cecilie Goff between 1921 and 1943, when he gave it and the house to the National Trust.

The village of Holt is a compact rectangular settlement set in an oddly shaped parish, with a ‘tail’ of land south of Forewoods Common, that includes Great Bradford Wood and Lady Down Farm. This seems to have come about because Holt was part of the ancient manor and parish of Bradford and when the urban boundaries of Bradford were defined as roughly circular, this area of land lay outside them and could only be given to Holt. The manor house of Holt lies to the north west of the village and has had no settlement associated with it since medieval times. The river Avon is in the south of the parish and forms part of the southern boundary while the Kennet and Avon canal passes through the southernmost part of the parish.

My next 'chapter' (weeks 17 - 20) in my View 52 Square Mile project is "Finance". To kick off, this is the walkway outside the London Stock Exchange in Paternoster Square, near to St Paul's Cathedral. I was drawn by the colour, symmetry and lines.

All comments welcome and I'm using my View 52 project to try and improve my photography so any technical advice is also appreciated.

I shot in RAW and processed in Lightroom and PSE10.

What did I learn this week? Mainly patience, waiting for a quieter moment with fewer people rushing around. I'm not usually keen in having stray people in my pictures, but I think this one lady helps the shot.

In 1942 the area was blitzed in World War II and redeveloped in the 1960s. Paternoster Square was again redeveloped in October 2003 with buildings by William Whitfield and several others. Among the main tenants was the newly relocated London Stock Exchange.

I had been after the series to screen Summer & Smoke as soon as I learned about it. And have been expounding on Bernstein's score for years. I consider it one of his masterpieces in an incredibly prolific career. The (relatively) recent complete CD is a revelation, especially since includes the prologue which includes music that opens and closes the film and ties the whole ironic "The tables have turned with a vengeance" plot together.

It was also an excellent print. (In Panavision, BTW). For a subtle property such as this wide-screen still worked very well, creating some surprisingly intimate moments. I also enjoyed seeing some of the late lamented MGM back lot "Saint Louis Street" in some of the exterior scenes. (You half expected to see Judy Garland and Tom Drake put in an appearance).

Jon Burlingame read some Elmer's comments from from the original RCA Victor liner notes and provided some insights into the score and Bernstein's work in general. (I listened to the CD version on the way up). We chatted a bit before the screening and who should come up but Peter Bernstein. What a bonus to a wonderful evening. Both film and score were absolutely enthralling.

There will be five more films in early 2017, including The Shootist and The Ten Commandments. Usually on Monday evening, which may have accounted for the sparse attendance in these weeks before Christmas.

Nobody commented on this.

I was doing some stuff, experimental work. Kind of like 3-d moire patterns, and then my Apple computer died. No more access to Photoshop or Illustrator.

Maybe I crossed the border?

No, do not venture there.

Back to my original comments.

“It was nothing but a hole, a mouth open wide. You could lean over the edge and peer down to see nothing. All I knew about the well was its frightening depth. It was deep beyond measuring, and crammed full of darkness, as if all the world’s darkness had been boiled down to their ultimate density.”

― Haruki Murakami

I have not read the book this quote is from, Norwegian Wood. All I have read by Murakami is short stories and perhaps an excerpt.

This is experimental work. Two grids in Illustrator this time, each with only three columns and three rows, one with appearance to edge and the other with appearance to center. Imported into Photoshop, one layer on top of the other. Then some warping, changes in blending mode, gradient map, levels, curves, etc.

Gudda meaning Doll(male) in Hindi, the female version is Guddi.

I found this precious doll all decked up in traditional Muslim attire at

a social gathering.

I just love his expression...so much curiosity in his eyes and also wondering at the same time, why mummy has made him wear such heavy clothes and who all these silly people are :-)

Leeds Pride 2019 - words are wholly inadequate to describe what an amazing day this was. The outpouring of love and togetherness was jaw-dropping, the crowds along the streets were even bigger than last year! My favourite day of the year, as has been the case for the last 3 years since my first one.

It makes me fill up just going back through all these memories.

Before the parade, in and around the Cosmo.

Nile Rodgers - Nuits du Sud 2013 - Vence - France (20130801_0820)

My first view of this little goat and his faithful donkey sidekick, this year. He sure knows his place... and is going to make sure I know mine!

A comment was made about it being an odd friendship. It is fairly common, in this area, for farmers to have donkeys along with horses and probably other animals. The do seem to provide company, and they alert when coyotes show. The donkeys are committed brayers, and I have heard them at night making a scene loud enough to ensure that help will soon come. Cute, too.

Because of the ridiculous hotel prices over Jubille weekend, it was decided to move Leeds First Friday to the second Friday instead. And it was a very quiet weekend, not just for the event but Leeds itself was really quiet.

I got to meet the lovely Jennifer Lees for the first time. She's gorgeous and an absolute blast - she's got a crazy long tongue too and doesn't mind showing it off! LOL!

My last week off before going back to work, I went for a day out in York to meet my friend Sarah who was down from Newcastle.

What a lovely day out! We had a Yorkshire Pudding wrap for lunch before a wander around a visiting a few bars.

The last bar Sarah took me to was Evil Eye, a cocktail bar she knows. Wow, the menu was extensive to say the least! I don't drink alcohol and usually the mocktail selection is perhaps 2 or 3 but there were 26 mocktails available!

Such a quirky place as well, all sorts of quirky decorations and touches. I loved it!
