About 200 United Kingdom army majors visited Fort Riley on Friday, Feb. 28 as part of their Intermediate Command and Staff Course (Land). The eight-month course is based at the UK Defence Academy. The portion of the course known as Exercise Eagle Owl is based at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and its Command and General Staff College. The course’s aim is to prepare newly promoted majors for appointments in sub-unit command and on the staff up to and including lieutenant colonel. CGSC is set to host Eagle Owl for the next five years as part of a partnership with the UK Defence Academy.
During their Fort Riley visit, the officers were briefed by 1st Infantry Division leaders on ongoing missions before lunch at Cantigny Dining Facility and a tour of the Battle Command Training Complex, which included static displays featuring the “Big Red One’s” latest equipment.
