If you can't stand the heat... (3 May 2015)

No where near as comical as Magilla Gorilla, this statue sits overlooking a set of picnic tables by a large playground in Denver's City Park. Carved from the trunk of an old tree he was weathering before he was fully revealed. As my daughter has matured from 'Swing Me, Daddy" to 'You sit here, I'll be back', Magilla and I have become friendly enough that he needed a name.

www.toonopedia.com/magilla.htm will tell you something about Magilla Gorilla if you're drawing a total blank.

Hythe is a nice seaside town with a pier, a railway a good bus service and a ferry service across the water to Southampton. Visitors must come here from around the world. So when they need a sit down, give them a nice seat looking at an ash tray? I found this comical yet sad in equal meaure. No nice planting. No grand view, no sculpture or anything to please the eye or entice the mind. All the seats are arranged to give a perfect circular view of the central feature which is a pretty unremarkable ash tray. Why waste money on what looks like designer seating for such a bland boring unimaginative setting.

How come they either look comically mad, or smiling?

How do dragonflies fly?

Dragonflies are marvels of flight engineering. They can fly forward at speeds of 35 miles per hour or more. They can also fly backwards, change direction in midair, and hover for up to a minute. Dragonflies have four wings, two on each side of their bodies. Scientists believe that they twist their wings on the downward stroke, creating a whirlwind of air that flows across the wings. This creates the lift that keeps them flying.

Quite cheeky and comical birds to watch, I was delighted to get it showing its crest out. This cocky had been watching me as I put out feed for the rosellas and thought it would join in for a period of time before taking off.

A cute-comical looking Antarctica penguin with a bold white eye ring on a black head.

Perhaps a more comical approach. The source photos were upbeat and cheerful, and I chose this one for the sheer fun that Masil was obviously having with his poses. With his head tilted back, I found the foreshortening quite challenging. Put that one on the list of things to work on in 2012. Still listening to The Cinematic Orchestra. Nice :)

More adapt at getting a laugh than performing magic but he held the attention of a large crowd!

A couple people got the giant scissors while the rest where left feeling horribly inadequate with their silly regular sized scissors. I think they may have offered City Manager Tom Bonfield some kiddie scissors. He opted to hold the ribbon.

Little Pied Cormorant yawning after nodding off. Despite the tired yawn, the bird was still quite restless as if trying to keep itself awake. Will have more birds at Centennial Park for the next few days as it seems most of the birds like hanging out here.

“A few nursing students and I were walking through the hustle and bustle of the Zocalo Cuernavaca. We stopped and watched a couple guys doing gymnastics tricks with lit torches, teenagers in a big circle break dancing, elderly people taking salsa lessons, and then we ran across this guy who apparently wasn’t too interested in the things going on around him.”

A very comical moment for me. I was trying to get a picture of my Favorite ride(MIB) and stopped to think about the best place to do so..then decided it was on the bridge...when i got there I took a normal photo then read the "Photo Op" Kodak Board and had to laugh lol. Then I took this one to tell the story.

Comical watching this bird running about with it's head under the water trying to catch food.

Aracari- related to the Keel-Billed Toucan, is one of the easier and lovelier birds to photograph. Here he is seen feeding on the berries (full of oil) from the palm tree.

You can't pass this display without smiling.

Highly playful and physical, and at times teasingly comical – this is a cheeky dance celebration of the child within.

Combining quirky, dynamic dance with high energy street gymnastics, the dancers in this performance blaze a colourful trail across the structures and landscapes of the playground. Each performance will be unique, as the show scrambles around, over, under and through swings, slides and roundabouts. Kids will love it, grown-ups will love it too!

The sparring is comical to watch at times. The two males will roll about and slap each other vigorously for a few minutes then collapse in a heap and go to sleep side by side before starting the sparring all over again...Churchill, Manitoba, Canada

This pair just made me laugh. Don't remember what kind of monkey they are but they sure looked pretty mellow. Beardsley Park Zoo, Bridgeport, Ct. USA

This comical looking pair turned up on our patio at Centerparcs in Whinfell (lake district). I wasn't sure what they were at first - I was taking the photo's when my 11 year old step-son found them in the bird book. He was tickled to see them as he had only ever heard of them in relation to a pear tree at Christmas
