Puffins are unmistakable birds with their black back and white underparts, distinctive black head with large pale cheeks and their tall, flattened, brightly-coloured bill. Its comical appearance is heightened by its red and black eye-markings and bright orange legs.

It poured all day yesterday and the jays that normally look very regal were looking somewhat comical.
This is one of the more comical species to observe as they seem to be constantly squabbling, bantering and charging across the surface of the water at a rival with flailing, splashing wings in an effort to intimidate during the breeding season and then after the young are raised they gather in groups of thousands especially in a few select staging areas.
Despite the fact they have lobed feet rather than webbed they are still very skillful swimmers and when feeding can dabble like a duck, dive like a diving duck and also forage on land.
Their favored habitat is a shallow pond, marsh or wetland with a good supply of emerged vegetation where they build their floating nests, lay 5 - 15 eggs per clutch that they incubate for 21 - 25 days. They will raise one or two broods per season.
This adult bird is spending the winter months in a shallow portion of the shoreline of Lake Ontario.
One of my favorites...they are comical to watch, especially when chasing a mate. I think they believe they are much larger birds than they actually are !
A beautiful, graceful small egret, very active in its feeding behavior in shallow waters. Known by its contrasting yellow feet, could be said to dance in the shallows on golden slippers. The species was slaughtered for its plumes in the 19th century, but protection brought a rapid recovery of numbers, and the Snowy Egret is now more widespread and common than ever. Its delicate appearance is belied by its harsh and raucous calls around its nesting colonies.

There's something so comical about these creatures - they seemed very interested in what we were up to on our family walk!
I thought this male common grackle looked quite comical as he did a little display dance for a nearby female.
My first visit for 2 years and what a joy to be back. The pupping season is later than normal so numbers were down today, but still there was plenty to see.
I was going to start with a cute overload shot but opted for this comical capture instead.
A great shot for a caption.

An unmistakable little bird with its comical clown like appearance. Love it’s red and black eye-markings and bright orange legs.
The weather on the Isle of May,Scotland yesterday went from torrential rain to warm and sunny.
Well worth a visit :)
I couldn't help but laugh at this Canada Goose Gosling as it flung a pancake up over it's head somewhat like a P.P.E mask and cap. Wildlife sure can be comical at times and it's great to capture them in the process.

These guys were quite comical! At one point they were lined up across the whole road and then one by one they leaped over the road railing and took off. Big horn sheep at Custer State Park in South Dakota.

After a stunning but comical display of acrobatics trying to position herself on the tree limb, the Female Great Blue Heron stands like a sentinel on top of another branch.

First thing we saw were these comical little guy's The beach was full of them running in and out of their holes. We just laid in one spot for a while letting them get use to you. What a fun show they put on. You can see the sunrise in it's eyes. Stone Harbor Point NJ.
The little burrowing owls are so comical and often I find myself laughing at their behavior. This image was taken when one little owlet ran and stood behind the other thinking I am sure that he would not be seen. What a privilege it is to spend time with these little creatures and watch them grow up.
Wishing you a great start to the new week and a very blessed one too !!!
As you might know I did watch this guy for a time and some of his antics were comical. In this image he was stalking what I thought was a food source, as he did obviously, but was only a dried leaf, but in an instant he did pick it up and was a little disappointed, one more and done.
Have a great day, be safe and thank you for stopping by.

We got sunshine yesterday and this little fellow decided a spot of sunbathing was in order. It could not have chosen a better sunbed on this comfortable mossy log. Really comical to watch as it spread its wings and got into all different positions. It will have to warm up a bit more before I do the same. The weather is looking rather nice for the weekend here. I hope it is going to be a good one for you all as well. Have fun. xx

When God had finished the stars and whirl of coloured suns
He turned His mind from big things to fashion little ones;
Beautiful tiny things (like daisies) He made, and then
He made the comical ones in case the minds of men
Should stiffen and become
Dull, humourless and glum,
And so forgetful of their Maker be
As to take even themselves – quite seriously.
Caterpillars and cats are lively and excellent puns:
All God’s jokes are good – even the practical ones!
And as for the duck, I think God must have smiled a bit
Seeing those bright eyes blink on the day He fashioned it.
And he’s probably laughing still at the sound that came
out of its bill!
I can't wait to go back to Northumberland again (summer) and see the Puffins, such a comical bird, one of my favourites!

Gentoo Penguin (Pygoscelis papua) I watched a group of gentoos hopping around on the ice for quite a while. They are comical and follow each other everywhere!
The Great Lord or the Skies... not something we think of with pelicans. Eagles, yes; pelicans, never. Pelicans are comical: squabbling amongst themselves; crash landing each time as though they seem to always over- or under-estimate where the water is. Yet, when I watch them in flight, they exude a power in their gracefulness, an undeniably regal quality.

In the trees, munching away
They seem to get braver, and come closer. Which we like. Sometimes they just seem to watch us, or just stare at us. They’re comical.

This is an image I have wanted in my collection for a very long time and in the hot dry weather I feed them at night and give them water . This particular one started to visit every evening at Dusk giving me my long awaited chance. I had as many as 3 visit in an evening but mostly well into the dark hours . Hedgehogs are declining rapidly but thankfully in the UK they are still very widely distributed with almost comprehensive coverage across England. They have a distinctive waddling gait a long snout and are covered in characteristic brown spines.
Managed to sneak up on this Hoopoe thanks to a thicket of bushes and trees as it preened and stretched. Apart from its trademark crest, the plumage on the wings of the Hoopoe create a sort of swirling spiral effect in flight. Although not particularly large of stature, they always seem to possess this larger-than-life, if somewhat comical presence. Definitely the punk rock stars of the local bird scene here in Beijing.
Some shots of puffins taken on a beautiful day in June - hard to believe now! They are such cute birds and I have given them some daft titles!
Another story from these comical swallow fledglings. unedited. Not sure where that spittle is coming from lol
No, I didn't just catch this moment in time when the Ibis just looked awkward and off balance. I think this guy had been drinking. It couldn't get its balance and without wings would have plunked into the water. From the look on its face I would say that it wouldn't have been the first time.
This majestic steller's sea eagle gave an unwanted comical picture with this fluffy white feather on his enormous beak. The photo makes me really smile... 😄
Sloths became one of my favorite animals while visiting Costa Rica. I found them adorable and comical and fun to capture them in interesting poses like this. Take a look at the baby sloth in my previous post if you haven't already.

ORINOCO FLOW (SAIL AWAY) - ENYA
Little Billy writes a letter
to his Auntie Jolie
he says he hopes she is feeling happy
and sorry he types so slowly
it's difficult with tiny hands you see
to hit the keys just right
it took him half the day today
not to mention a good half of last night
it only he didn't get so distracted
by a moving piece of string
an on-screen game that's just for cats
but surely he's a human being!!
at least there is no mouse to chase
on this laptop on the floor
or it would take him a month of Sundays
to complete this missive with his little grey paws
eyes wide open he studies the screen
making sure he has typed no typos
next it's spellcheck; it's best to be sure
when you're talking about the vet and hypos
he writes about his allergies
he tells her about his day
he hopes that she will understand
how he loves her more than he can say
he doesn't have a voice you see
he cannot say meow
but he is clever and can understand
every word we say right now
he conveys his needs with an expressive face
he can purr and watches TV
and do everything all the other cats can do
except meow you see
just as well he learned to type
a brilliant means of communication
he signs his letter with a small footnote
p.s. Auntie Jolie; you're my inspiration!

WHAT'S NEW PUSSYCAT – TOM JONES
Looking for the waxwings
eating apples in the orchard
a big cat came to greet me
he was huge and very forward
He climbed the fence to meet me
to block my view of birds
he told me they were meant for him
hadn't anybody heard
I must admit he made my day
he made me belly laugh
I laughed until my ribs were aching
he told me I was daft
He climbed the fence like he was human
and not a cat at all
but he landed like a cat on all fours
told me a tale so tall
Once upon an eerie moment
he said he'd seen a ghost
while lurking in the nearby churchyard
scratching at a post
It was the spirit of a lady
who carried a lantern bright
she stooped to pick up falling conkers
her body clothed in white
her hair so long and straggly dangled
over her eyes and face
her finger nails were more like talons
that cut through her finest lace
“I think she was a witch”, he said
“and once I was her familiar,
so I hid behind the biggest headstone
in case she beckoned me to her.”
“Were you afraid?”, I asked the cat.
“No, not at all, not really ...
but I'd rather be a humble cat
chasing the waxwings freely.”
He looked well fed and was content
he loved to pose for his portrait
and I was sorry to say goodbye
but had I stayed I would be late
Happy Fence Friday to you my friends
and a Happy Caturday too
It's nice to be back and feeling happy
and it's lovely to see all of you! : 0)

House Sparrow (Passer domesticus). I love watching the sparrows in our garden - common birds but quite comical.
I just like the comical scene of this photo. Puffins are fantastic little characters to watch!

A bulbous-headed brown bird with a comically large bill. Brownish overall, with a rich chestnut cap and paler underparts. Face is liberally splattered with black splotches, the largest patch on the ear where it forms a thick crescent. Pale yellow bill is oddly twisted, making it seem as if the bird is smiling. Prefers brushy habitats with dense cover, including bamboo stands and heavily overgrown field edges, in foothills up to montane areas. Joins mixed flocks. Can be difficult to see in thick cover, but will perch up to sing. Song a repetitive “aw-wi-WI-WI-Wi-WI” whose pitch and cadence may vary. (eBird)
------------------
We came across this unusual little bird in the bamboo growing beside a steep road. He led us up and down the road as he sang, before pausing long enough for an excellent photo shoot. Despite name and appearance, he is not a parrot. He is, in fact, a songbird closely related to the North American Wrentit.
