This is a favourite window of both mine and of my cat Kitty. It was cold and windy outside but toasty warm inside. This is the window from which I shoot birds on the DIY perch. Of course I pop the screen out to do my shooting. Although Kitty has several locations that she enjoys sleeping or napping in, this is at or near the top of her favourites.
Colour outside is from Sunflowers, and this image is a lead-in to a series I have shot of those sunflowers.

After spending much of the morning seeking an appropriate nesting site, this well-worn female snapping turtle lumbers eagerly back to the more comfortable waters of the lake which they leave only to perform this duty. I was very pleased to spot her as I haven't seen one of these impressive giants for years after encountering them fairly often back 6-7 years ago.
Turtles have always been my favorite animal. The very first essay I ever wrote in school was on the turtle. Not sure as to the source of this fascination but it remains. Perhaps because not much has changed in today's snapping turtle from that earliest variety of 215 million years ago. They saw the dinosaurs come and go. Tradition and survival indeed.
In any event, it was good to spend the morning with this grande dame. (They can live over 100 years.) It's hard to convey a sense of size without a frame of reference, but that is not a small stone above her. Records are almost 20 inches (50cm) in length and 75 lbs (34 kg). She was not quite that size but a very fine specimen nonetheless.

Finally found one that felt comfortable enough for me to get close!
Sitting literally at the end of the Valleyfield subdivision, 536 power is idling into the comfortable night, watching the daily parade of Toronto and Montréal-bound nighter who's rapidly rolling by the station, shaking it for a few minutes before fading into the night.
Those Searchlights will likely disappear by the end of the year, their substitute already sitting on the ground a few hundred feet at left, waiting their turns for assuming the next fifty years or so of directing train movements at this busy junction.

KRUGER NATIONAL PARK is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. Areas of the park were first protected by the government of the South African Republic in 1898, and it became South Africa's first national park in 1926. To the west and south of the Kruger National Park are the two South African provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga. In the north is Zimbabwe, and to the east is Mozambique. It is now part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, a peace park that links Kruger National Park with the Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe, and with the Limpopo National Park in Mozambique.
