Scopello village is pleasant enough, but visitors probably wouldn't come here if it weren't for what lies down on the sea below. A combination of manmade and natural features have created a gloriously scenic little cove which can be glimpsed from the village, and explored up close by swimmers and sun-bathers. Offshore there are dramatic faraglioni, rock towers in the sea. Two historic defensive towers stand poised on the rocks, combining with a third tower up by the village to unify the wider views. And in the small rocky bay there is a faded old tonnara, a tuna fishery, an important part of the history of this part of Sicily. The Tonnara di Scopello closed down in the 1980s, but for a couple of decades it remained as it was left, and visitors could wander among the old buildings and tuna fishing equipment (you can read some more about the Sicilian tuna fishing traditions on my Castellammare del Golfo page). The spot is hugely popular with local Sicilians, who don't mind sharing tiny patches of rock and concrete with many other sun-worshippers, and who revel in the clear waters for swimming.

However, with lots of publicity, and the shooting of films here, including Ocean's Twelve and an episode of Inspector Montalbano, the owners of the Tonnara di Scopello evidently felt it was time to capitalise on the abandoned fishery. The crumbling buildings were renovated and closed off to the public, instead offering accommodation. The Tonnara's owners also privatised the whole cove (and views), to lot of local controversy. If you visit the cove and Tonnara now, be prepared to pay an admission charge.

Rock, water, cactus, snow. Lots to see here.

I thought about titling this "Everything but the kitchen sink" but decided that wasn't appropriate as these depressions nearly always hold water, even when it hasn't rained for months. Great for the critters!

Last night I explored another one of the lakes around the Grampians area, the sunset was nice but without a cloud in the sky I decided to stay for the night sky. Lake Lonsdale Milky Way was captured with my trusty ZEISS Batis 2.8/18 & Sony A7R combo.

This image is a combination of 32 photographs. It contains 4 groups of photographs, each group contains 8 individual exposures. The individual exposures are stacked and blended to remove noise and then each 'group' is 'stitched' into a panorama.

Lake Lonsdale is located on the eastern side of the Grampians National Park, Victoria, Australia.

After we got done shooting #110, an eastbound came out of the yard on the Mainline and headed to Chicago. I don't know what train this was, but it was an odd combination of little power and a mostly intermodal train.

I like all of the industrial equipment that I see here. I had to stop and shoot.

Selfie with Hermione: combination of reflections of the homes behind me, with sightline through the house to our back yard together with Hermione and me facing one another all come together in an intriguing way. All I intended here was to capture a quick shot of Hermione and me reflected on the window but this turned out to be one of those moments when the grace of an accident painted a larger and more interesting result than expected. Emmy joined in the photoshoot as well.

We all knew that if I acquired Covid 19 in combination with my underlaying Alpha-1 things could get a little tricky. I came back from Jersey on the Thursday, felt a little grotty on the Friday, ill on Saturday, tested positive on the Sunday and into hospial on the Monday and I have been here ever since! I was started on Dexamethasone and Paxlovid and had to be supported with oxygen. This morning, a bit like the parting of the Red Sea, my fever is down, headache has gone more importantly no breathlessness at rest so got out of bed and hopefully on a mends although Covid can throw swerve balls when you think you are getting better. Unfortunately at home my eldest, Abigail is also unwell and testing positive as well as Melanie who tested positive on Thursday night. All this and we have been vaccinated and boostered, just shows you that Covid is still out their and must not be taken for granted....

I am now waiting for a double negative Covid test and the all clear to get home but this may depend on Melanie and Abigail's status first, needing to be double negative before I am discharged, then the long hall of getting better and stronger over the next couple of months and hopefully no "Long Covid"

I have my laptop so in the meantime I shall continue to upload some photos when I feel up to it, still got all the Jersey photos to post, got to stop the brain fog and boredom somehow, must be getting better!

The motorbike is registered in the city of Berlin (IA = Landespolizeibezirk Berlin), so the two have covered a considerable distance in their ancient combination.

I made this based on a friend's favorite pair of socks. hehe She lives in Portugal and needed for a logo. She makes gift items and will be using this for tags and business cards. This one was a lot of fun to design.

Combination of wind and tatty feathers.

The combination of later timings, easterly wind and very hot weather made it difficult to find a suitable location on the S+C so it seemed sensible to stay close to Hellifield in the hope of some exhaust.
