The combination of an Elephant and a passing herd of buffalos is an uneasy combination. You never know what happens next. When you look at the elephant you see that this bull is still evaluating the situation but did not decide what to do at the moment

something of a mixture in this view of a southbound evening excursion at hartford --great western castle 5043 earl of mount edgecumbe in BR colours ,but with the letters GWR burnished on the buffers , a class 37 diesel and a headboard reminscent of the western region, but bearing the name of a one time west coast mainline anglo scottish express --the caledonian, and on the metal fence a notice warning theives to beware !

A scene taken on Gloucester Horton Road shed (85B) in November 1965 shows the old and the new order with Castle Class No.7029 "Clun Castle" alongside a Brush Type 4 No.D1721. I would not have imagined that nearly 57 years later that this combination of locomotives would still be working on the mainline. 7029 now owned by Vintage Trains of Tyseley regularly hauls charter trains (topping and tailing) with Brush Type 4 D1755. D1721 was not so lucky being scrapped in October 1990.
A combination of beauty and weariness of a winter that won't end as this is what residents of La Crosse woke up to this morning!
I got this shot a few weeks back. This looked like a mating pair until I got close and saw they were 2 different species of dragonflies. The blue dasher on top was flying, the pondhawk was hanging and appeared lifeless. It looked as if the tip of the dashers abdomen was lodged between the pondhawks eyes. I guess if one spends enough time in the field he might see almost anything!

A cherry pip, safe on its own and intact, but if chewed or ground, the amygdalin releases cyanide when metabolised within the body.
Various plant seeds or pits contain amygdalin, which releases cyanide when metabolised, including cherries. The amounts are small, so that in general, toxicity is not seen except in cases where a combination of factors seriously exacerbates the problem. Essentially, you need a pit or seed from some fruit of a plant in the family Rosaceae, generally from Prunus genus (cherries, plums, peaches, apricots, and almonds).
Under such conditions, you can ingest enough amygdalin to kill you. However, while some cherry pits do apparently contain amygdalin at the same concentrations as bitter apricot kernels, the amount you would have to eat is considerably more than two pits. The LD50 for bitter almonds (which are also similar to cherry and apricot kernels, with ~5% amygdalin content) in rats is estimated to be a little more than 3 grams per Kg of body weight.

This is a combination of three 6-photo panoramas of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty taken from Liberty State Park on Saturday, August 29, 2015 (the night of the super moon). The top panorama was taken about 30 minutes before sunset. The setting sun is reflecting off of One World Trade Center. The middle panorama was taken at sunset (which was setting behind me). The bottom panorama was taken about 45 minutes after sunset near the end of the blue hour. This photo includes the Super Moon. If you click on the photo, you can see the Empire State Building (left), the Chrysler Building (left) , and the Brooklyn Bridge (middle).
Many local photographers were out capturing the moon with the Statue of Liberty on this summer evening. Each panorama covers a 90 degree view. The combined photo quite detailed at [11,005 x 8,378].

With a combination of music, water and light, the Bellagio delivers a spectacular audiovisual performance with its majestic fountains.
This 8.5-acre lake has 1,214 jets that rocket streams of water 460 feet into the air. The shows are so complex, there's a staff of 30 working seven days a week, 365 days a year to clean, maintain and make emergency repairs on the fountains between shows.
The dancing streams of water are illuminated from within and jut out sporadically to the pulse of whichever song is playing. They shimmy, twirl and spin -- they also happen to be perfectly timed to a crescendo of oohs and ahhs from the surrounding crowd.

The interweaving of the Botín Museum on Paseo Pereda has been perfect.
Example of modern architecture, in its broadest sense.
Sunday Feb 27th along the Canadian border and I'm within range of my U.S. cousins, barely a whisker from the three distinct shapely buttes of Montana's Sweet Grass Hills popping up in the distance. Today, it feels like we're breathing the same air. An exchange of sorts.
It's eerie quiet, I can hear my heart beating, a nearby gas compressor station reminding a sign of life. The Range/Township gravel roads are heavily drifted and deep in areas, caution always needed. The light is fading and slipping across the horizon, a vague sunset barely announcing the close of another day. The carpet of snow is crisp and supports a full body weight.
This ramshackle 20th century skeleton homestead house is THE Alberta prairie symbol, you'll find them many places, held together by sheer determination considering the area is notorious for winds.
"The Sweet Grass Hills are notoriously windy. The combination of lying on the east side of the Continental Divide and their elevation can really make them a very windy place. All the more so since there is absolutely nothing to block the wind except for the occasional barbed wire fence. During the winter, this area is also very cold - even without the wind chill."
To the left is a small wooden cross marking an undistinguished grave. I only leave my footsteps in the snow, nothing changed from the way I've found this icon. Yet somehow with each visit and adventure to these broad and flat prairies, my visual senses are forever expanded.....the metaphor of photography undeniably changes ME.
For another lovely backside perspective, visit.....
