A cat in greenery is a harmonious combination ... however, cats are always and everywhere harmonious :)

The ancient Egyptians had a special relationship with cats: they were revered as sacred animals; mummified like humans; depicted in sculpture and frescoes. And the very first cat "portrait" was written by the Egyptians.

For a long time it was believed that the Egyptians tamed cats. However, in 2004, a burial site dating back to 9500 BC was discovered in Cyprus. e., in which a cat was found together with a man. A wild beast would hardly have been put in a grave. It turned out that cats lived with people long before they appeared in Egypt. The Middle East began to be considered the birthplace of domestic cats, and Egypt was forgotten for some time. But not for long: in 2008, a burial was opened in southern Egypt, in which six cats were found - a male, a female and four kittens. Although this burial was younger than the Cypriot one (about 6000 years), it became clear that cats were known in Egypt much earlier than was thought until recently.

It is known that the ancestor of the domestic cat was the steppe cat Felis silvestris lybica - it still lives in the steppe, desert and partly mountainous regions of Africa, Western, Central and Central Asia, in Northern India, Transcaucasia and Kazakhstan. In 2007, it was possible to establish that all modern cats descended from him.

Seafarers brought the first cats to Rus' in the pre-Christian era. Exotic animals were a valuable commodity: the cost of a cat until the 15th century was comparable to the value of a healthy arable animal - an ox.

I saw an ornamental cherry tree in full blossom. Took a few shots, and was surprised with the colors resulting, although it makes sense, as the blossoms were in the shade and the grass behind was in full sunlight.

A combination of strong wind and bad technique left this shot quite mushy, but the brief sunset light with lots of dust in the air made for a good scene nonetheless. I took this photo on the 6th, but didn't know what the theme was for today at the time. Since last Monday, I've hardly been out due to the horrible weather.

The photo hasn't been on Flickr before, although similar ones of it have.

ripe berries of lonicera caprifolium/ honeysuckle in combination with wild agrimony flowers forming a lovely spontaneous little scene

agrimony is a beneficial herb that was already known by ancient Greek and Romans, also in Keltic culture, China and by Native Americans... to treat eye and skin ailments or insomnia etc., in Europe during the middle ages and Afrika in VooDoo it was/is even used to dispel curses!

but nothing of course like laughing at our troubles to dispel them, much better than to hide or say repress them for which agrimony also helps according to the English Dr. Bach in 19th century... making more spontaneous and open, also brave and confident enough to face troubles... keeping naturally cheerful and jovial!

also lonicera is a traditional herb known to be very beneficial for health and it is very nutritious... a.o. also calming and strengthening it is... too much to name here... but let 's say it is quite a strong combination that I came across here in the park where only wild flowers are found!

A striking landscape photograph capturing the rugged peaks of Sinai mountains during sunset.

The primary subjects are the two prominent, craggy mountain peaks that dominate the frame, filling the lower two-thirds of the image. The foreground is composed of the dark, textured slopes, providing depth.

The horizon line is positioned relatively low, emphasizing the vastness of the sky and the height of the mountains. The two main peaks create a balanced, symmetrical composition.

The lighting is soft and diffused, characteristic of the "golden hour" around sunset. The light source is likely just below or above the horizon, casting a warm glow on the clouds and creating deep shadows on the mountain faces.

A vibrant and contrasting color palette is used. The sky features soft pinks and purples in the clouds, contrasting beautifully with the cool, desaturated purplish-gray tones of the mountains.

The image highlights the rough, rocky texture of the mountains, which provides a strong tactile element against the smooth appearance of the sky.

The combination of soft light, dramatic peaks, and ethereal colors creates a serene, majestic, and awe-inspiring mood.

Some flowers go together so very well, like these pink Tulips with the blue Hyacinths.

Perfect.

Thank you for your time and comments, M, (*_*)

This species is definitely in my top five. That combination of yellow cap and chestnut sides is just amazing. I feel very fortunate to be able to see them all summer too as they breed near my home.

In November last year, I had the great privilege of being taken to a private working flower farm, hidden in the heart of the Dandenong Ranges National Park in Silvan on the outskirts of Melbourne. The growers specialise in crocuses, Japanese water irises, orchids, rare species of plants from South America and California, and beautiful heirloom peony roses. As a departure gift after a lovely afternoon wandering the greenhouses and fields, the owners gave me a bunch of beautiful pink Sarah Bernhardt peonies which have wonderfully furled petals.

As the weather was beautifully fine in the days following my visit, I took the peonies in their vase out onto the garden to photograph them against the beautiful blue sky dusted with white, fluffy clouds, and against the rich green of my lawn. Imagine my delight, when a Heteronympha Merope (Common Brown) butterfly landed on one of the blooms just as I was photographing them! Now, I will happily confess that I admire any photographer who is quick enough to capture a butterfly in a shot, as I am usually far too slow to do so myself. However this butterfly was remarkably obliging and stayed on the bloom, basking in the sunshine, just long enough for me to take three photographs before it flitted away again!

The theme for the 3rd of August for “Smile on Saturday” is “combination of flora and fauna”. I was originally going to use another shot of a bee amongst some spring blossoms, but as I used a similar shot for “Looking Close on Friday’s theme of “bugs & co” on the 5th of July, when I remembered these photos from my archive, I decided to make a photo collage and submit them instead. I hope you like my choice for this week’s theme, and that it makes you smile!

Heteronympha Merope, or the Common Brown, is a species of butterfly of the family Nymphalidae, endemic to the southern half of Australia. The wingspan is about sixty millimetres for males and seventy millimetres for females.

Paeonia lactiflora 'Sarah Bernhardt' is an exquisite herbaceous peony with ruffled, flamingo-pink double blooms that open from large and rounded buds. 'Sarah Bernhardt' is by far the best-known and most loved peony in the world. In fact, it’s so popular that it has become the face of peonies in general. This heirloom plant from 1906 is also delightfully fragrant.

The colour combination of black body with tufts of brown hair, red spots and white markings make the larvae of the Knot Grass moth easy to identify. This caterpillar will feed on a variety of plants including heather, plantain, knotgrass, dock, bramble, sallow and hawthorn. No surprise that this moth is a common and widespread species throughout Britain. This larva was found in my garden today looking for somewhere to pupate over winter in a cocoon formed among leaf litter.

To see a combination of Re 6/6 and Re 4/4 on an international transit train in 2021 is almost a spectacle. The two locomotives were the standard traction par excellence in the days of the old Gotthard line, but with the opening of the two base tunnels on the Gotthard and Lötschberg, the Re 10/10 combination is no longer often seen. Newly built Traxx and Vectron locomotives have taken over almost all of the services and now dominate freight traffic on the two transit axes.

The photographers were all delighted on the evening of 23.04.2021 when the combination 11617 (Re 620 017) and 11342 (Re 420 342) appeared in the curve near Einigen.

------

The combination of golden light and wooden fencing helped to create a western look to this image. Add to that a white streak in the sky in the form of a cloud, and balance was achieved. I wanted to find the correct angle that would line up the fence with the ridge. That had me fumbling about while standing on an uneven drop off.

Alone on this ridge, there was plenty of time to work uninterrupted. Only the golden light served as my hour glass. Like the sands that would flow through the apex, light too would continue to change, until absent.
