Stand and deliver, they were so noisy in their defence and persuit of the treasure, they were quite far away but I thought it was worth a shot. It was not till I enlarged it that I saw what all the commotion was about !

Combate del Manzano o Pachacamac.

“El 27, a las seis de la tarde, el capitán de una de las avanzadas del Curicó dio aviso de que en dirección a las «Lomas del Manzano» se avistaba al enemigo.
El coronel Barbosa partió inmediatamente al lugar amagado por si las fuerzas enemigas que venían eran numerosas, i ordenó que el rejimiento Curicó se pusiera en marcha para reforzar la compañía que estaba de avanzada, al mismo tiempo que cinco compañías del rejimiento 3° de línea debían escalonarse en el trayecto que forzosamente tenía que recorrer el enemigo para dirijirse a Lima.
El resto del 3°, el Lautaro, el batallón Victoria i la batería de artillería allí acantonada recibieron también orden de estar listas a la primera señal.
Durante estos preparativos, la noche, oscura como nunca, cubría con su negro i tenebroso manto valles i lomas, cerros i llanuras, permitiendo apenas distinguir los bultos a pocos metros. Nuestros soldados, con sus armas listas, dispuestos al combate, anhelantes por medirse con el enemigo, retenían hasta el aliento a fin de no espantar la codiciada presa. En toda la fila reinaba el silencio más profundo, percibiéndose lejanas pisadas que se aproximaban lentamente.
Los soldados del Curicó ocupaban sus puestos, sin perder el menor rumor, con la mirada centellante tratando de penetrar por entre las espesas tinieblas que los envolvían i resueltos a defender ese paso con sus vidas.
Después de una media hora de espectativa, el enemigo llegó a tiro de pistola i rompió sus fuegos (ocho i minutos de la noche), los que fueron contestados por la avanzada, i el segundo batallón del Curicó, empeñándose la acción en medio de la oscuridad más profunda.
El enemigo trató de abrirse paso a través de nuestras fuerzas, al mismo tiempo que su vanguardia echaba pie a tierra i hacia un continuo fuego. En ese momento cayó herido en la cabeza el teniente coronel segundo jefe del Curicó don José Olano, i otra bala que le penetró en el estómago puso fin a su vida. El capitán ayudante don Nicanor Molinare que estaba a su lado salió ileso, no así cuatro soldados que fueron heridos de gravedad.
Después de un cuarto de hora de tiroteo, la caballería enemiga fue rechazada i puesta en fuga por los infantes del Curicó que le cerraron el paso que ella buscaba. En la refriega cayó muerto el caballo del jefe enemigo, quien no tardó en levantarse i emprender la fuga con su jente.
A pesar de la oscuridad de la noche, el coronel Barbosa ordenó a la fuerza de Cazadores a caballo marchara a cortar el paso a los fujitivos, siguiendo a retaguardia para apoyarla dos compañías del 3° de línea desplegadas en guerrilla.”

La caballería peruana regresaba a Lima y se habría perdido , llegando hasta el centro mismo de las avanzadas chilenas.
El capitán chileno del Curicó, José Barahona, avisto a las tropas peruanas y preparo la emboscada.
En este combate es tomado prisionero el coronel peruano Pedro José Sevilla, quién días atrás hostigo el avance de la 1° Brigada al mando de Patricio Lynch, trabando combate en Herbay .-
Se dice también que la tropa peruana o parte de ella vestía uniformes chilenos en este combate.

“El 27 de diciembre se tuvo conocimiento que fuerzas peruanas trataban de atacar sorpresivamente la zona de concentración chilena, desde la quebrada del Manzano.
La Brigada Barbosa recibió la misión de desbaratar esa maniobra, sorprendiendo al enemigo en la noche del 27 al 28, les causó considerables perdidas y capturó un botín de 1.000 animales, entre caballares, vacunos, lanares y caprinos. En ese encuentro y su prisionero, casi en su totalidad, al Regimiento “Cazadores del Rímac”; se recogieron 100 carabinas “Remington”, 100 sable, 100 lanzas y el instrumental de la banda, qué pasó a reponer el del Regimiento “Carabineros de Yungay”, perdido la captura del Rímac.
Tres tiros, mal dirigidos, saludaron a un piquete de caballería que bajaba a las lagunas a cargo del Dr. Teodosio Martínez, mayor de guardias nacionales, quién había ido a recoger agua para determinar su grado de potabilidad; no obstante estos disparos de artillería y el hecho de haberse desplegado una guerrilla enemiga al frente, Martínez desmonto, hizo llenar un par de barrilitos y se retiró bajo el fuego, para analizarla en el campamento.”

Ademas se tomó al enemigo 100 carabinas i otros tantos sables i lanzas, 120 caballos, 1000 animales entre vacunos, cabríos i ovejunos, el aparato telegráfico que traía para comunicarse, el instrumental de la banda de música e importantes comunicaciones.
El enemigo, según parte oficial, tuvo 13 muertos i algunos heridos. Entre los muertos se encuentra el Segundo jefe de esta fuerza de caballería, teniente coronel don Baldomero Aróstegni.
Por nuestra parte tuvimos que lamentar, como lo dijimos más arriba, la pérdida del teniente coronel de guardias nacionales don José Olano, muerto en los primeros momentos del combate, i que había abandonado todo por servir a su patria, hogar, una esposa joven, i las comodidades adquirídas durante una vida de continua i tenaz labor.
El comandante Olano tenía unos treinta i cinco años, i así como en Santiago se había captado la estimación de cuantos le conocían, en el ejército se había conquistado el aprecio i simpatías no solo del rejimiento Curicó, sino de todos los jefes i oficiales,
La muerte de este distinguido jefe ha sido sentida en todo el ejército.
Fue tal el pánico que se apoderó del enemigo, que el campo quedó sembrado de despojos. En los cerros i la llanura se veían caballos i mulas sueltas, ropa, baúles, i hasta ornamentos sagrados."
Candidates from 3rd Brigade Combat Team, JRTC Operations Group and several other installations participated in Expert Infantry Badge and Expert Soldier Badge training and testing at Fort Polk, Louisiana. Soldiers were trained and tested on land navigation and patrol, medical and weapons tasks. They were given a physical fitness assessment and they had to complete the final task, a 12-mile ruck march in under three hours.
158 Soldiers earned the coveted badges at a ceremony that was streamed on Facebook live, March 27, 2020.

A la fin du mois de juin se déroulait à Nantes le premier championnat du monde universitaire de savate, et donc une sortie photo originale à deux pas de chez moi.
Avec mon pote Aurélien, nous avons eu l'opportunité de photographier plusieurs combats de qualification.
Ce premier combat nous a permis de prendre la température et pour ma part d'essayer de trouver un réglage adéquat : dur dur pour mon K200 qui dans ce type d'exercice laisse paraitre ses limites...

CQC (Close Quarter Combat) is a special fight techique used by the military Special Forces. It was created by William Fairbairn as a police officer in the tough streets of Shanghai during the 1907-1920. The technique consist of several movements for attack/defence with bare hands, knifes, sticks and pistol. Or use both: pistol/knife. Naked Snake is a master in this technique. His teacher was the Boss herself, that's why he gain the title of BIGG BOSS!!!

Spc. Joel Canzanella from the 200th MP Company in Catonsville, Md. receives Combat Lifesaver training. A Combat Lifesaver (CLS) is non-medic soldier with moderate emergency medical training to provide care at the point of wounding. The Combat Lifesaver is instructed in various techniques to treat and stabilize injuries related to combat. Maryland Army National Guard Soldiers from the 115th Military Police Battalion completed weapons qualification, conducted battle drills and sharpened their warrior skills during their two-week annual training July 10-24 at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa. In total, more than 200 Citizen Soldiers from units in Salisbury, Parkville and Catonsville, Md. traveled to the 18,000 acre National Guard training site in central Pennsylvania for this year’s annual training. Guardsmen from the 115th Military Police Battalion were among the first and most heavily called upon, having arrived at the Pentagon on Sept. 12 and subsequently served in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Guantanamo Bay.

Former RAAF F/A-18 pilot and Top Gun Instructor Matt Hall is the first Australian to be selected to compete in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship. As a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) fighter pilot, Hall logged over 1500 F/A-18 Hornet hours. As a Fighter Combat Instructor, in 2006 he completed a tour as the chief instructor. Hall spent three years in the USA on a USAF exchange program, flying over 500 hours in the F-15E Strike Eagle, including combat. For his efforts, he was awarded combat decorations by both the US and Australia.
He resigned from the RAAF to allow him to become a full-time race pilot.
