I finally finished school today, I had my last mid-term! I am extremely happy to have finished this semester!

I decided next year 2015 I will continue with another 52 week project. But for now I have a major goal. That's to continue working/ finishing all my photographs from this year! So many shoots I haven't even shown on any social media platform.

Excerpt from www.victoriaonlinesightseeing.com/812-wharf-street-victor...:

812 Wharf Street – Tourism Victoria Visitor Centre

This Art Deco building at 812 Wharf Street, at the intersection of Government Street and Wharf Street, across from the Empress Hotel, is now the Tourism Victoria Visitor Centre.

This building was originally built in 1931 by the Vancouver architectural firm of Townley and Matheson – [Fred Laughton Townley (1887-1966) and Robert Michael Matheson (1887-1935)] – as a service station for Imperial Oil. It is an historically significant building, placed on Canada’s Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The building’s tower featured a 10 million candle power Sperry Beacon, intended as a navigational aid for float planes approaching Victoria’s Inner Harbour at night, which could seen up to 100 kilometers (60 miles) away. The Sperry Beacon is still in place.

In March 2015, the City of Victoria purchased 812 Wharf Street from the Province of British Columbia for $7.98 million. The City of Victoria paid these funds from its Building and Infrastructure Reserve Fund and intends to pay back the money, with interest, over a 22-year period.

At the time of the purchase, the City of Victoria stated that this building produced $980,000 in annual revenue with annual expenses of $520,000.

The 1931 design incorporated an earlier one-story brick structure built on the site in 1911 by the City of Victoria, at a cost of $11,000, as a “public comfort.” When the Imperial Oil station opened in 1931 the Daily Colonist reported that “the city comfort station….has been taken over by [Imperial Oil] and improved. It will be maintained by [Imperial Oil] under an agreement with the city.”

The Daily Colonist also reported that the new Causeway Garage offered everything required for the “fueling, storage, washing, greasing and repairing of cars, also handling the Vancouver Island agency for Stromberg carburetors and Bendix brakes……The general repair section is located on the lower floor, reached by an easy grade ramp, wide enough to accommodate two cars abreast…” This “easy grade ramp” is still evident today.

I made a new website for my photographs.

I'm hoping to have lots of new work there soon.

So much work in progress at the moment...

www.olgabennettphotography.com

I came to work on my page and one of the little ones deleted everything when I was not looking. So now I have to start over. I was just going to add them back. However that is to many to do at one time, and they would no longer have their tags. So I either have to start from scratch, or upload them one at a time. Not sure what I will be doing just yet. ????

I like that the last few hours of photography that I did in 2014 was actually in London. Spending so much time away from home visiting new locations is great, but there’s something to be said for wandering around this magnificent city and capturing a few of our own places. It’s easy to take these for granted when living here.

Of course, the weather plays a big part and as I am a fair weather photographer the times when I actually go out compared to when I have planned to go out is often not the same due to a small splash of rain putting me off, but this is mostly a fine excuse for the inherent laziness that is within me. On this particular day, however, we had blue sky for a lot of it, and some nice clouds rolled in just in time for sunset.

Enjoy your first week back at work, for those who had to crawl out of bed this morning and return to the grindstone.

Montenegro is a country in Eastern Europe bordering Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Albania and the Adriatic Sea. It used to be a part of Yugoslavia. The capital is Podgorica. The name Montenegro is Italian and means Black mountain. Montenegro was an independent princedom between 1878 and 1910 and an independent kingdom until 1918. That year Montenegro became part of Yugoslavia. In 2003 Yugoslavia was transformed into the new country of Serbia and Montenegro, but this fell apart in 2006 when both countries went their separate ways. Montenegro is therefore the youngest country in Europe. Montenegro is not a member of the European Union, but it is a member of NATO. Despite the fact that Montenegro is not yet an EU Member State, people do pay with the euro. Montenegro may be small, but this beautiful nation has a huge array of natural and man-made wonders. Once overlooked in favor of more famous Mediterranean countries, Montenegro is quickly gaining a reputation as a great place to travel. It's easy to see why. The mountainous hinterland is home to deep gorges, flowing rivers, glacial lakes and old-growth forests, popular for adventure activities. The winding coast runs along pretty blonde bays overlooking the royal blue Adriatic Sea, ancient Venetian villages and UNESCO-walled towns. Podgorica is the capital city of Montenegro. Its rivers and bridges include the modern Millennium Bridge over the Morača River, and the stone bridge spanning the Ribnica River. The centuries-old Clock Tower, built by the Turks, dominates the old town.

Cetinje used to be the capital of Montenegro, but in 1946 it became Podgorica. The city was then called by a different name, namely Titograd, named after the Yugoslav president Tito, who died in 1980. In 1992 it was renamed Podgorica. Characteristic are the modern buildings, green parks, but also the large gray streets and buildings. The "new cathedral" Hristovog Vaskrsenja cathedral (as it is known in Podgorica) is great to visit. Built between 1993 and 2013, this must be one of the most spectacular cathedrals built in the last century. The large dome, the large towers with white stones and golden crosses of this immense new Serbian Orthodox cathedral are amazing. The inside with many frescoes is also impressive to see. The large central dome with supporting semi-domes is a sight to behold. The large chandeliers; the wall-to-wall murals and the beautiful marble floor. The cathedral has only been open since 2014. The interiors are enriched with iconography. The artistic decoration inside will blow your minds. Since the cathedral is quite new, the details are bright and clear. The locals are sometimes a bit disdainful of the cathedral - they prefer the really old churches with a lot of history - but the interior is beautiful.
