There are quite many passes between the central and eastern California that crosses over the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The most famous one being the Tioga Pass that crosses over to Yosemite National Park. While on one of our road trips to the eastern Sierra, we decided to check out a new pass, which we haven’t yet tried. The name of this pass is the Sonora Pass, and it crosses the Sierra Nevada mountain to the north of Yosemite Valley.
As usual with all mountain passes, there seems to be a river, and its called the West Walker River. North of Bridgeport is the starting point of the Pass. It starts out sticking close to the river before entering the Stanislaus National Forest and following the Stanislaus River. Columns of the giants is a beautiful short hike nearby to stretch your legs before you get to Donnell vista. At Donnell Vista, you get a beautiful view of the Donell Lake, which is a humanmade lake created due to the construction of Donnell's dam.
I took this shot at the east entry point of the Sonora pass alongside the West Walker River before we entered the actual mountain pass. I am not sure what exactly makes this composition work for me, but I liked the shrubs in the foreground, the sliver of reflection that is the river, and the foothills of the Sierra at a distance.

Occasionally as the run reaches lower angles its rays will extend to the forest floor and illuminate the ferns that grow hundreds of feet below the redwood canopy high above. By afternoon the normally cool forest has warmed. The fog from the Pacific just a short distance away has dissipated and turned in to a light haze in the forest and is illuminated by the sunshine. If you look up, you can see many cob webs of little spiders hanging in the trees. Their illuminated webs glistening in the sunshine.
Occasionally a monarch or swallowtail butterfly floats though the canopy using the forest to retain heat during winter months. Brown salamanders can be found on the forest floor alongside giant banana slugs. By this time of year, mushrooms have sprung up beside the path and range from bright yellow to bright reds. Some are striped with various colors of reds, tans and deep browns. There is plenty to take pictures of here so it's a favorite place to hang out on a nice afternoon.

It is a genus of about 500 species of flowering plants in the family Ranunculaceae. Members of the genus are known as buttercups, spearworts and water crowfoots. The familiar and widespread buttercup of gardens throughout Northern Europe (and introduced elsewhere) is the creeping buttercup Ranunculus repens, which has extremely tough and tenacious roots. Two other species are also widespread, the bulbous buttercup Ranunculus bulbosus and the much taller meadow buttercup Ranunculus acris. All three are often regarded as invasive weeds. Buttercups usually flower in the spring, but flowers may be found throughout the summer, especially where the plants are growing as opportunistic colonizers, as in the case of garden weeds. The water crowfoots (Ranunculus subgenus Batrachium), which grow in still or running water, are sometimes treated in a separate genus Batrachium. They have two different leaf types, thread-like leaves underwater and broader floating leaves. In some species, such as R. aquatilis, a third, intermediate leaf type occurs. Ranunculus species are used as food by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including the Hebrew character and small angle shades. Some species are popular ornamental flowers in horticulture, with many cultivars selected for large and brightly coloured flowers. Buttercups are mostly perennial, but occasionally annual or biennial, herbaceous, aquatic or terrestrial plants, often with leaves in a rosette at the base of the stem. In many perennial species runners are sent out that will develop new plants with roots and rosettes at the distanced nodes. 24799

Dale Earnhardt Jr, (NASCAR Sprint Cup driver) comes back into the garage for additional adjustments during the FOLDS OF HONOR QUIKTRIP 500 practice run at Atlanta Motor Speedway during the weekend of February 2016. I decided to keep the camera still and shoot continuously and then make this image from 3 exposures.

Memorial Church is located in the historical picturesque village of Port Ryerse on the northern shore of Lake Erie, approximately 10 minutes south of the town of Simcoe and 10 minutes west of the town of Port Dover, close to both town amenities. The village was one of the first settlements in the area and the Memorial Church grounds contain a Loyalist cemetery with burials as early as 1798. The cemetery was closed for burials in 1917. The church building was built in 1870 in memorial of the early pioneers and Col. Samuel Ryerse who is buried there. The church building, cemetery, and grounds are situated on one corner lot at 31 King Street, Port Ryerse. Memorial Church does not have a rectory of its own, due to its small size and because it has always been paired with a larger church with a functioning rectory. Memorial, as part of the Long Point Parish presently has a shared rectory in Port Rowan approximately 30 minutes away.
Memorial Church is used for church and some community functions. It is the only church in Port Ryerse and can hold approximately 75 people seated. In 1980 the congregation together with financial and physical support from the community raised the church and added a basement. This is utilized as a parish hall having a capacity of 65 persons, with kitchen and washroom facilities. In 2012 the building was renovated with a new bell tower and made fully accessible including new wheelchair accessible washrooms and a lift. The Bell Tower and Accessibility Project cost over $200,000 raised through available church funds, grants, and local support. In 2014, the exterior was repainted and the windows repaired. Today the church has no debts, the building is in good condition and should not require any major upgrades for years to come.
The interior of the church sanctuary is historical with original woodwork, high ceiling and excellent acoustics. It is also modern due to recent changes using 30 comfortable chairs in a circular seating arrangement, making the service experience for 12 to 15 members each week very unique and inclusive. This arrangement also allows for a more functional space. The chairs can be arranged in the more traditional rows for larger functions or removed for the addition of tables for conferences, art shows, musical presentations etc. This building and grounds have great potential for use as a retreat center or spiritual workshop.

Croatia is a country in Southeast Europe. It borders Slovenia to the northwest, Hungary to the northeast, Serbia to the east, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro to the southeast, sharing a maritime border with Italy. Croatia was part of the former Yugoslavia. A population of 4 million, most of whom are Catholics. Zagreb is the capital. Balanced between the Balkans and Central Europe, this country has been passed between rival kingdoms, empires and republics for thousands of years. If there is an advantage to this ongoing disruption, it is in the rich cultural legacy each has left behind. From Venetian palaces, Napoleonic fortresses, Slavic churches, Viennese mansions to socialist sculptures. But most attraction is the coastline with the remarkable clarity of the water and white pebbly beach. Despite being the fastest rising holiday destination in Europe in the past decade, Croatia still doesn't feel overrun by tourists. There are long sandy and winding beaches too, perfect for lazy days. Croatia is a beautiful country to discover many different landscapes. Korčula is a dense island with mostly dense forest, mainly holm oaks, pines and all kinds of scrub. The coast consists of bays, caves and clear water. A place for more lingering around and enjoying the slow pace of life.
Korčula is a Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea and lies just off the Dalmatian coast. The island harboring a glorious old town is certainly worth a visit. Korčula really is a quaint Croatian fishing port. Now full of impressive yachts. The bigger yachts are booked as tours for a week to sail through the Dalmatian archipelago. Such 48 metre luxury motor yacht have 18 comfortable en-suited staterooms sleeping 38 passengers. Embark at Split and cruise around the Dalmatian islands of Hvar, Korčula, Lopud to Dubrovnik. Offshore, Korčula’s tiny archipelago lures charter yachts to drop anchor in blue-green coves, and along the coastline, breathtaking beaches are backed by shady pines and silvery-green hills of olive and vines. The smaller Yachts are of the rich and famous.
