I was occupied a few days very much because my homepage has moved.
I was not during the last days here at Flickr
I've been waiting and waiting for winter to set in to finish my "52 in 2014" challenge but after just one week of a little bit snow in November, the weather just remains mild, grey and wet.
That's why I need to resort to a photo from February this year, which represents the required theme quite well, I think. Taken onboard a passenger ferry, just after leaving the port of Helsinki, on our way to Stockholm. After sunset there is often this mysterious, cold, blue moment before everything vanishes inside the winter cloak of darkness.

The actual temperature reported by Environment Canada was -36C. Our thermometer seems to always read several degrees warmer (it may have been tampered with by Al Gore) when it gets this cold. Forgot to plug the car in last night and it did not start this morning.

Took a cycle round to Lindores Loch on this cold, but sunny morning to find the loch had a thin covering of ice. The frost was still hanging around where the sun hadn't reached.
Christmas Day 2010 saw the Bollin frozen to the maximum extent for the winter. It was certainly a cold spell and I don't suppose we shall see anything like this for the next few years.
It was very cold and snowy at Saturday's WVU football game. Not quite so bad at my camera position on the WVU Stadium's camera deck as it was for the crew out on the field, but the "White Out" the fans planned for the last home game of Pat WHITE - their senior quarterback - came true with lots of real snow in addition to the white wardrobe they'd all planned. Bridges in Morgantown were closed temporarily due to ice & snow the evening of the game and the county sheriff asked people to stay off the slippery roads....
at a record low of -58.4 degrees Celcius (which is -73.12F) Edmonton was only warmer than Dzalinda, Siberia yesterday.
Despite hating the cold, I am remarkably proud to live in this resilient place where even in the very absolute dead of winter, people still go about their daily lives.
Nothing shuts down this city!
I did not care...I was an IL girl on the beach...I had seen tooo much winter...I came, saw and enjoyed. Yes, I wore flip flops, sweater, and hat...

I always seem to run into some sort of crazy temperature extreme when I travel back home. Back in 2003, my sister got married at this church, in the middle of a record heatwave. On our recent trip, we were greeted by a blast of Siberian air, which even as a New Yorker (ok, apprentice New Yorker) accustomed to cold winters, came as quite a shock to the system.

Another great session with Ayla. I experimented a lot with different post processing, this was one I thought came out expecially well.
A most fortunate trip early this morning. I had no plans going to bed Friday night but have been waking up in the middle of the night rather often lately ever since going to Eastern Daylight Time. So when it happened today at 4:30 AM I decided to put it to use. One problem with these darkness trips and hikes is nowhere open to get breakfast fast and I'd need something substantial for sure. The great thing about right after the time change is the sun comes up really late, so I cooked a big meal.
Turbo and I drove up to the Mount Pleasant National Scenic Area near Buena Vista, VA and took the Appalachian Trail south up to Cold Mountain. It's a "bald" area similar to what is found around Roan Mountain in NC/TN. Pretty much a 360 view and there aren't many places in VA with a better shot of the rising sun. I wasn't sure how it would be since there was a lot of overcast where I live and on the drive up. It's about a 1 mile hike to get up here and did it just as the glow of day started. Only had to wait about 15 minutes until the sun came up, and the sky just kept getting better. I stayed around taking pictures for perhaps 45 more minutes and could have stayed much longer.
We rode home on the parkway stopping at the good overlooks and also went for a flower walk at the James River. It's the low point of the parkway and thus spring happens in that area first. We ended up seeing Dutchmans Breetches, Cutleaf Toothwort, Spring Beauties, Bloodroot, and Star Chickweed. Best photo trip I've had in awhile and don't know how long it's been for that nice of a Saturday.

I took this one whilst walking my dog in the freezing cold this morning. Unfortunately my boyfriend has to stay one more night in the hell that is our local nhs hospital, so I am alone, retouching + watching The Big Bang Theory :)
