Breathe deep the gathering gloom
Watch lights fade from every room
Bedsitter people look back and lament
Another day's useless energy spent

New mother picks up and suckles her son
Senior citizens wish they were young

Removes the colours from our sight

At the old farm cottage we used to stay at beneath Mt Maroon, this is the only shower. The water came from a spring. Needless to say, we usually waited until we returned home for a shower. June 1989.
This photo was taken just after sunrise with Mt Maroon in the background. Unfortunately when it was scanned, the top of the mountain was cropped.
Jack Marshall, a well known Queensland bushwalker from the 1950s - 1970s lived here in his later life.
long time ago this was a vulcano and when the hot basalt became cold it built under pressure these structures. over thousands of years the earth was washed out and the petrifacted heart of the vulcano, this chimney of stone is still visible and tower above the landscape.

New Yorkers bundled up during record breaking low temperatures due to the weather phenomenon called the "Polar Vortex" in NY, NY on January 7, 2014.
The calendar said late June, but the mornings were cold and required a fire. temperatures between 1 and 4 C (low to mid 30's F)

my daughter is out in minus ten. warm clothes is the thing. In norway there are basic rules how to dress. An overaldress is the outside. with fingeless gloves and wintershoes (sobel) underneath this a second layour of clothes. this is fleece. (see other picture of my daughter in pink). fleece takes away the humad from the body. The third layour is wool, closest to the body. woolen underwear the secret of the norwegian. because wool doesnot loose its tempeture it keeps warm even when wet. thin woolen underwear of merinosheep is often used. especially important are woolen socks.
Surprise Snowfall. Less than 2 weeks later it was 90F (a new record high for the day). Gotta love springtime in Virginia...
