Coffee table made with recycled EPAL pallet and metal.
a rendering of the coffee table i've been working on, since the end of january. hopefully i'll be able to show an 'after' photo soon.
Yet another trip to IKEA and an impulse purchase nearly doubled the original $35 cost. But I couldn't pass up the sale price on the Dioder lights. The little rubber feet on the bottom of the support leave just enough room for the wire from the lights to slide under. I can light the table from "within" in green, blue, red, white, yellow etc.
This coffee table was a gift from my Great Aunt and Uncle. My great uncle learnt to be a carpenter in the old country (Belgium) before WW2.

Publisher's Note: Illustrious sitters jump as their photograph was taken, and the photographer reflects on the jumpers and non-jumpers
This unique and authoritative book has long been out of print, and so Abrams takes great pleasure in reissuing it, adding previously unpublished jumps, in recognition of this revolutionary breakthrough that united briefly the science of psychology and the art of photography.
Where other portraitists were content to have their subjects sit for them, Philippe Halsman had his jump. Having reached the pinnacle of success as a portrait photographer in the mid-1950s, Halsman began to ask his illustrious sitters to jump for him, and most complied: Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, and Brigitte Bardot; Richard Nixon and Adlai Stevenson; the Duke and Duchess of Windsor; Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein II; and countless others leapt at the chance. This book, with a charming text by Halsman, suggests the livelier side of the 1950s.
More info:
Commissioned by the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Brando, Picasso, Nixon and the Kennedys, Phillippe Halsman turned formal fashion shots into serious investigations of character. Engaging his subjects in disarming chatter, he would often ask them to jump, which he believed would free them of their postures and defenses. "When you ask a person to jump, his attention is mostly directed toward the act of jumping and the mask falls so that the real person appears."
From surrealist flourishes such as headless bodies or bodiless heads, to "jumpology", which would become his trademark, Philippe pursued his quest to uncover the hidden truths behind the masks of his subjects.
Philipe Halsman (1906-1979) came to the United States in 1940, a refugee from France. He was a well known photographer in Europe but he had to start from scratch in this country.
In two years of hard struggle he made a name for himself as one of America's leading photographers and found himself busy night and day with people who heard of his reputation and wished to be photographed. More of Mr. Halsman's pictures have appeared on the cover of Life magazine (101) than those of any other photographer.
Although a superb technician, he had about him an air of an amateur and experimentalist. He was forever trying new things. Thus, when he met Fernandel, the subject of another book, he asked him to come to his studio so he could make him a subject of an interview – the questions to be asked in words and the answers to come in the form of facial expressions.
I don't like this photo at all. Blech!
I didn't have anything in mind when I started it, and really didn't have anything in mind when I was staring at it trying to edit it. The colors are blah, the lighting is ok, and I think my face looks weird because of the lighting.
Meh. My brain is mush. I haven't actually used it in... days? More than that. Work is stimulating, but I really miss learning... like in a classroom. I need to get on my own ass about studying for the GREs. I have this self-defeating attitude about the whole thing and it's totally not helping me at all. I just need to study. It's really not that hard. I'm astonished that I actually teach groups on procrastination, time management, perfectionism... etc... and I totally don't practice any of it.
Clearly, I'm a freakin' grump tonight.
*My coffee table is in dire need of some Windex.

My parents decided to have some new living room furniture, which of course eventually led to having their living and dining rooms redecorated and new carpet as well ;-) So, we have had their old carpet and sofa. The sofa is in lovely condition since Mum and Dad have sat in the matching armchairs. The carpet is faded but is waaaaay better than our old one ~ and to be honest, I rather like the "vintage" look of it!
This has led to me finally getting my arse in gear and having a good tidy/rearrange/dust/clean in our living room ~ which has been very neglected these past couple of years. It does still need redecorating but in the meantime, I am very pleased with how things are looking thus far :-)
The coffee table, which now stands at the other end of the sofa. The pretty "fan" is a photoframe. I will be putting a plant in the empty pot when I get my cutting sorted out!

Re-purposed pallet and fence wood coffee table! Linked is an e-pattern containing a simple step-by-step break down for building the beautiful coffee table in the picture below. This coffee table is made using one pallet and 5-10 salvaged fence pickets. This pallet wood coffee table can be stained or painted to fit any style your home may have!
Once built, your coffee table will be 48" long by 24" wide and 18" tall, making it the perfect fit for nearly any living room, fitting especially well in front of large couches.
This pattern is very detailed and easy to understand for even beginner woodworkers! Basic tool knowledge and safety will be plenty to complete the perfect new table for your home.
This design was made to be as environmentally conscious as possible. Using all reclaimed wood from a pallet and fence pickets, the only expenses will be hardware and stain/paint, making this an affordable project as well as an eco-friendly one!
We hope you love this design as much as we do and if you have any questions about it, do not hesitate to get in touch with us! Thanks so much!
This beautiful wood stump was on its way to the landfill so we reclaimed it , refinished it and added some vintage mid-century hairpin legs.
This uniquely shaped buttressed tree trunk appears to be from a Rainbow Eucalyptus. However, we can't confirm the exact species of tree.
Blurry close up shot of a corner of the support piece. Before staining, I rebuilt the frame with metal corner braces. The "top" side in the photo is actually the bottom that will sit on the Laiva, so I added little rubber feet at either side of the L-brace. These feet also keep the whole assembly from sliding around, elimination the need to otherwise fasten the support to the Laiva.

I'm getting this to use as a coffee table. The main point of a coffee table in my house is to put feet on, and this is a versatile piece of furniture for a future smaller apartment. It also fits with my simple-lines-but-showing-age aesthetic that I'm totally drawn to.
