This photograph was taken at an altitude of Forty eight metres at 11:43am on a cold and wintry morning, on December 12th 2022, following overnight snow and a temperature of -3 degrees, off Chessington Avenue in Bexleyheath, Kent. Here we see a pair of Black-headed gulls (Chroicocephalus ridibundus), in flight.

  

To the left is a juvenile with the brownish plumage and to the right a more adult bird, neither yet with their winter plumage fully on show. They are found in much of the Palearctic including Canada and Europe. In Canada it is called the Common black-headed gull.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Forty two metres at 14:06pm on Friday 26th May 2023 off Richards Trail and Herd Road at the Pacific Northwest Raptors in North Cowichan on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada.

  

Here we see a Saker falcon (Falco cherrug)shielding prey captured during a flying demonstration, from predatory Red tailed hawks (Buteo jamaicensis), in the sky above. A large species of falcon which breeds from central Europe eastwards across the Palearctic to Manchuria. It is mainly migratory except in the southernmost parts of its range, wintering in Ethiopia, the Arabian peninsula, northern Pakistan and western China.

 

The saker falcon is the second fastest bird in level flight, capable of reaching 150 km/h (93 mph). It is also the 3rd fastest animal in the world overall, capable of executing high speed dives known as “swooping”, in excess of 320 km/h (200 mph).

The Columbian Ground Squirrel (Urocitellus columbianus) is the second largest member of the rodent family Urocitellus, common in parts of Northwest United States of America and Canada. This little fella took a shine to one of three little 30 year old teddy bears that travel everywhere we go when our British and Canadian family is reunited.

Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus Leucocephalus), derives it's name from the Greek for 'Sea eagle', and the 'bald' denotation actually derives from an older meaning of 'white headed'.Bald Eagles can be up to forty inches in length with a wingspan up to seven and a half feet and can weigh up to 6.3kgs. Here we see an adult Red-breasted goose (Branta ruficollis) from Eurasia, and sadly currently classified as vulnerable. This goose is an example of hybrid specification, being the result of ancient interbreeding between the Brant goose and the white cheeked goose, some 3.5 million years ago.

The Millpond dates back to the 16th Century and parts of the woodland dates back even further to the 13th Century. A beautiful location for a walk, or to sit amongst nature and so see birds and butterflies in their natural habitat.

  

The Eurasian chaffinch, common chaffinch, or simply the chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs), is a common and widespread small passerine bird in the finch family. The male is brightly coloured with a blue-grey cap and rust-red underparts.

This photograph was taken at an altitude of Fifty seven metres at 14:33pm on a cold and wintry afternoon, on December 13th 2022, and a temperature of -1 degrees, off Chessington Avenue in Bexleyheath, Kent.Here we see a Redwing(Turdus iliacus), the smallest of the Thrush family and protected under the Wildlife and countryside Act 1981 with a current staus of Red.

 

They rarely visit gardens unless snow is on the ground, and there are only a few nesting pairs in the UK, mainly in Scotland. They migrate to the UK from the Scandinavian coast, Russia, the Faroes and Iceland, and can detect berries using Ultra violet vision.They stay in the UK from October to April.

Ricoh Capilo R5 on a Tripod, 1 image taken automatically every 10 seconds.

This video was done out of 1300 individual still shots, played back @ 16 frames per second.

 

So the time frame you acutally see during the 81 seconds playback equals 3.5 hours of real time

 

Images were then put into VirtualDubMod and the video was encoded with DIVX Codec

Here we see a group of Black-headed gulls (Chroicocephalus ridibundus), in flight. They are found in much of the Palearctic including Canada and Europe. In Canada it is called the Common black-headed gull.

Seven consecutive days during the growth and first bloom of a Lithops flower bud.

The opening/closing of the flower seems to be sunshine-activated. Since after the first two openings there was really bad weather for days, I had to stop the time lapse because the flower did not open again and I did not want to wear out my DSLR with 144 photos a day while nothing happening in front of the lens.

 

10 minutes per frame, 1034 frames total, 30 frames per second in the video. Taken with a Pentax K200D in aperture priority mode (f/32). Trigger: DIY 10-minute timer circuit connected to camera remote input. Camera power supply by wallplug adapter. Nighttime illumination by desktop lamp.

Here we see a Turkey vulture (Cathartes aura) in flight, the most widespread of the New World vultures. One of three species in the genus Cathartes of the family Cathartidae, the turkey vulture ranges from southern Canada to the southernmost tip of South America. Their wingspan can range from 1.5 to 2 meters (4.9 to 6.6 feet).

It was Completed in 1938, and spans the First Narrows of Burrard Inlet, connecting the City of Vancouver to the North Shore municipalities of North Vancouver and West Vancouver. It's named after the Lions, two mountain peaks visible from the city, and is also known as the First Narrows Bridge.

Here we see a female Anna's hummingbird (Calypte anna), on a feeder filled with sugar water, taking time to scratch an itch! Hummingbirds are native to the Americas and are the smallest birds species measuring just three to five inches and weighing less than two grams. Their wingbeats range from 12 to 80 per second and the noise created by the wings gives them their name as the high frequency is audible to humans. They fly at up to 34mph.

This series is part of an ongoing research on visual ways to dissolve pornographic imagery in abstraction and absurd.

 

For the Scrambled series, using video footage downloaded from Internet, I exploit the artifacts, errors, blurs inherent to heavy digital compression and incomplete files.

 

Dozens of snapshots are generated. Here, the creative process in itself rely on selecting the right images : identifiable as pornographic, but somehow deactivated.

The Northern tent caterpillar (Malacosoma californicum pluviale) is a native North American insect. It occurs throughout the southern half of British Columbia, extending as far east as Quebec. In the United States, it is found west of the Cascade Mountains, through Washington and South to Oregon, plus northern Idaho, western Montana and several northeastern states also. It turns eventually into a moth of stout bodied with a wingspan of 25-37 mm and a one year lifespan.

Here we see a Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus Leucocephalus),drying off on a high perch after hunting off the Bevan Avenue fishing pier. It derives it's name from the Greek for 'Sea eagle', and the 'bald' denotation actually derives from an older meaning of 'white headed'. Bald Eagles can be up to forty inches in length with a wingspan up to seven and a half feet and can weigh up to 6.3kgs. The females are generally 25% larger than the males.

This photograph was taken at an altitude of Forty eight metres at 11:43am on a cold and wintry morning, on December 12th 2022, following overnight snow and a temperature of -3 degrees, off Chessington Avenue in Bexleyheath, Kent. Here we see a Black-headed gull (Chroicocephalus ridibundus), in flight.

  

They are found in much of the Palearctic including Canada and Europe. In Canada it is called the Common black-headed gull.

Here we see a Male and female Egyptian goose (Alopochen Aegyptiaca) taking advantage of a little aerial supremacy whilst perched high on a tree stump on the lake in St James's Park. This is a Siproeta stelenes (malachite), a Neotropical brush-footed butterfly (family Nymphalidae).The malachite has large wings that are black and brilliant green or yellow-green on the upperside and light brown and olive green on the underside. It is named for the mineral malachite, which is similar in colour to the bright green on the butterfly's wings.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Zero metres (Sea level) at 19:05pm on Wednesday 17th May 2023 on an unnamed and uninhabited by mankind wilderness, some distance from Dawley Passage Provincial Park and Meares Island in the Alberni-Clayoquot region of British Columbia in Canada.

I was stationed in a seventy year old house I was renting in Campbell Street, Tofino in British Columbia in Canada. In this image I was seated at the front of a twenty three feet long Zodiac inflatable in full life saving gear.

  

This is a magnificent full grown adult American Black Bear (Ursus Americanus), medium sized bears native to North America, and found in abundance in the Yukon territory and Alaska and remote island in British Columbia such as this. Black bears have a small tail, up to nine inches long foot length and males can weigh up to 250kgs. They have poor long distance vision but excellent smell, and this adult knew we were away in the water before we ever saw it.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Zero metres, at 12:58pm on Monday 9th January 2023, off the Mall and Horse Guards Road within the grounds of St James's Park in Central London, one of the Royal parks of London situated in South West London.

   

Here we see an Egyptian goose (Alopochen Aegyptiaca) taking advantage of a little aerial supremacy whilst perched high on a tree stump on the lake in St James's Park. These were once considered sacred by the ancient Egyptians, appearing in much of their artwork. They are native to Africa South of the Sahara.
