Incêndio atinge comunidades do Bode e Beira Rio, no Pina

Um incêndio tomou conta das palafitas das comunidades do Bode e da Beira Rio, no bairro do Pina, Zona Sul do Recife. Segundo informações dos moradores, o fogo teria começado por volta das 17h desta segunda-feira (19). As chamas foram controladas por volta das 20h e a Coordenadoria de Defesa Civil do Recife (Codecir) está no local para fazer a contagem dos desabrigados.
Ainda de acordo com os residentes do local, o Corpo de Bombeiros (CB) só teria chegado à área atingida duas horas depois, quando as chamas já haviam tomado conta das casas.
Segundo informações dos moradores, praticamente todas as casas, cerca de 350, foram atingidas. Poucas pessoas conseguiram salvar seus pertences das palafitas. Muitos ficaram apenas com a roupa do corpo e, ainda assim, ajudaram a apagar o fogo com baldes.

The Red Kite (Milvus Milvus) is a medium sized bird of prey (Raptor) in the Accipitridae family, and was saved from national extinction by a long running protection programme. It has now been successfully re-introduced into England and Scotland, and Wales, and they are listed under schedule 1 of the Wildlife and Countryside act, currently with a green status. They can reach 66cms in length with up to a 195cms wingspan, and there around 4,600 breeding pairs in the UK in 2024.

In March, technician contacts me and gives me specs as to how the projection can go with the available equipment that I have. The decision is made to go with 2 computers, not my original idea (1st image). Before this, there was talk of going yet another method (more expensive)...but there appeared to be a pause in the communication line...anyway, so as soon as I got notice I prepared my machines and ran several video tests... [Resolume Avenue 4 & 3 using the DXV codec]

Canon has just announced the 15.1 megapixel EOS 500D, known as the Rebel T1i in the US market. The new DSLR is a response to Nikon's D90 — it's a high-end consumer model which shoots HD video. It's also Canon's second DSLR to best Nikon's HD efforts.
The 500D shoots at up to full 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) but only does so at 20 frames per second. Drop to 720p (1280 x 720 pixels) and you get a better 30fps. This compares to the Nikon D90's maximum 720p at 24fps (the same speed as film based movie cameras). The Nikon, though, records in the crappy motion JPEG format. The 500D pops out .mov files in the H.264 codec. Another nice touch is the ability to use the autofocus whilst shooting, although you only get to use the slower contrast-detection system available in the live-view mode.
Yes, the 500D has live-view, like almost every camera appearing these days. The stills mode (this is a DSLR, after all) also has some neat touches. The one we like most is called Creative Auto by Canon, and is essentially an easy way to tweak settings while letting the camera take care of the heavy lifting. The camera remains in auto mode, but the user can choose from English-language options, like “Darker/Brighter" or “Blur Background" to customize the image. For beginners not coming from a manual camera background, this is a great way to learn without actually messing things up.
Otherwise, there isn't much that stands out, other than a good top “film speed". The 500D goes up to ISO 3200 in regular mode with two extra emergency settings of 6400 and 12800. The rest of the specs are unsurprising but good — a 3", 920,000 pixels LCD, 95% viewfinder coverage, HDMI-out, self-cleaning sensor, face-detection. You know the rest.
The 500D will cost just $800 for the body and for $900 in a kit with the EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens. That, in case you were wondering, is quite the bargain. Available May.

The pathways here are strewn with driftwood and foliage that provide food and nesting material for the many species of birds which visit. The Lagoon is one of seven Migratory Bird Sanctuaries in British Columbia, and an important stopover for birds journeying between North and South America. Visitors include geese and Swans, Bald Eagles and Great Blue Herons, plus many other species of birds.

The Lagoon is one of seven Migratory Bird Sanctuaries in British Columbia, and an important stopover for birds journeying between North and South America. Visitors include geese and Swans, Bald Eagles and Great Blue Herons, plus many other species of birds.
The Great Blue Heron (Ardea Herodias) is a wading bird in the Heron family Ardeidae and found in North America, Central Ameria, the Caribean and Galapagos Islands. One of the largest of Herons, it has a head to tail length of 01-137 centimtres (36-54 inches) and a wingspan of 187-201 centimtres (66-79 inches). They are found where my family live, and naturally very wary of mankind, flying off as soon as you are within fifty to one hundred yards of them.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Two metres at 20:41pm on Thursday 25th May 2023 around sunset at Patricia Bay , a body of salt water that extends East from the Saanich Inlet and forms part of the North Saanich shoreline in the District of North Saanich in British Columbia. It features a beautiful park which is at the south end of the Scoter Trail. Formerly known as Union Bay, the bay was named after Princess Patricia of Connaught, daughter of the Duke of Connaught who was Governor General in 1912.
The park has ties to transportation and the waterfront, and their pivotal role in the development of North Saanich. In 1937, the airport was developed as one of six Royal Canadian Air Force Station training facilities on Vancouver Island.
The land was originally settled by the Tseycum First Nation (Union Bay Indian Reserve No.4) , one of four Saanich villages of Southern Vancouver Island in the area and part of the Northern Straits Coast Salish language group.
In the Sencoten langauge Tseycum is spelled Wsikem and means Land of Clay. The languages spoken include Lkwungen, Malchosen, Semiahmoo, SENĆOŦEN andT’Sou-ke and in 2023 the Chief is Tanya Jimmy, who was elected in July 2019. The Tseycum people have five reserves located at:
Bare Island 9, Goldstream 13, Pender Island 8, Saturna Island 7 and Union Bay 4.

It was Completed in 1938, and spans the First Narrows of Burrard Inlet, connecting the City of Vancouver to the North Shore municipalities of North Vancouver and West Vancouver. It's named after the Lions, two mountain peaks visible from the city, and is also known as the First Narrows Bridge.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Zero metres (Sea level) at 19:02pm on Wednesday 17th May 2023 on an unnamed and uninhabited by mankind wilderness, some distance from Dawley Passage Provincial Park and Meares Island in the Alberni-Clayoquot region of British Columbia in Canada.
I was stationed in a seventy year old house I was renting in Campbell Street, Tofino in British Columbia in Canada and booked a place on a twenty three feet long Zodiac inflatable in full life saving gear with Remote Passages Marine Excursions at 51 Wharf Street in Tofino.
This is a magnificent full grown adult American Black Bear (Ursus Americanus), medium sized bears native to North America, and found in abundance in the Yukon territory and Alaska and remote island in British Columbia such as this. Black bears have a small tail, up to nine inches long foot length and males can weigh up to 250kgs. They have poor long distance vision but excellent smell, and this adult knew we were away in the water before we ever saw it.
