Seoul, Korea - September 1, 2009 – Samsung Digital Imaging Co. Ltd today unveiled the WB5000, a 12.5 mega-pixel camera outfitted with the most powerful lens ever offered on a Samsung compact digital camera. Joining the company’s advanced WB Series, the WB5000’s high-performance Schneider-KREUZNACH lens offers an impressive 24x optical zoom with a 26mm wide-angle focal length (35mm film equivalent focal range of 26mm-624mm), which can be used for shooting high-quality digital still images as well as recording 720p HD video in H.264 format.
“Photographers of all skill levels are going to be drawn to the WB5000’s features,” said Choong Hyun Hwang, vice president of Strategic Marketing at Samsung Digital Imaging Company. “The versatility of the lens gives any user, whether you’re a soccer mom on the sidelines or an enthusiast looking to create a stunning image, the ability to be prepared for just about any shooting scenario. Serious shooters will gravitate toward the WB5000’s aperture and shutter priority modes as well as full manual control and RAW support. For the entry-level shooter, Samsung’s Smart Auto takes simplicity to a new level, ensuring a great shot every time without having to be concerned about camera settings.”
The WB5000 puts high-definition video recording in the palm of users’ hands. The camera can record 720p HD video using H.264 compression, an advanced codec that allows users to record video for longer periods of time. For added versatility, users can zoom in and out while recording video, taking full advantage of both the camera’s 26mm wide-angle focal length and 24x optical zoom.
The WB5000’s 24x optical zoom, 26mm wide angle lens is supported by Samsung’s Dual Image Stabilization, which combines both optical and digital stabilization to help reduce blur, especially when using the lens at its maximum zoom. The WB5000 also provides aperture and shutter priority and a full manual shooting mode for those users looking to exercise more control over camera settings. Additional manual controls include the ability to customize white balance settings from a temperature range of 3,000K to 10,000K as well as manual focusing. Users have the option to shoot in RAW (DNG1.1), JPEGs, or both right on the camera.
Users can frame their images using the WB5000’s color electronic viewfinder(EVF) or three-inch LCD screen, which also grants access to the camera’s user interface. The WB5000 also features an easy-to-use Smart dial, which provides effortless navigation through the camera’s menu and simplifies the way users select various settings and review their images.
The new WB5000 also incorporates Samsung’s latest suite of intuitive and smart technologies which simplify how users take and view their photos, including Smart Auto. An advanced shooting mode which analyzes the current environment, Smart Auto will automatically choose from one of 11 optimized settings to produce the best possible image. After pictures are taken, users can easily search for a specific image they have saved on their memory card using the WB5000’s Smart Album feature. Smart Album automatically organizes the user’s digital images and gives them the ability to narrow their search based on specific criteria such as the date or week the image was taken, the overall color tone, portraits or specific file types, including photos, videos, or voice memos.
Samsung’s Perfect Portrait System, which includes Face Recognition, Face Detection, Smile Shot, Blink Detection and Samsung’s Beauty Shot, can also be found on the WB5000. One of the most advanced on the market, Samsung’s Face Recognition technology automatically stores up to 20 preferred faces to the cameras’ internal memory. While taking a portrait, the WB5000 will automatically recognize if one of the user’s 20 preferred faces is in the frame and identify them as a priority for focus and exposure. Users can also save time sorting through their photos and instead search for photos that contain a specific face.

Friday I worked non-stop all day, made a "video" for work in the morning which needless to say is not a regular occurrence, so I quickly learned an awful lot about video codecs, compression rates, and all the formats in between. I was hoping to get home in time to see the Portugal Brasil game, but instead had to kinda keep up with it online.
For those of you that have never read my project, my wife was born in Brazil but had a Portuguese mom, so she has dual citizenship in both countries. She was pretty torn during the game so was probably the only person truly happy to have it end in a draw!

The capybara, or greater capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) is a giant cavy rodent native to South America. It is the largest living rodent and a member of the genus Hydrochoerus. The capybara inhabits savannas and dense forests, and lives near bodies of water.
It is a highly social species and can be found in groups as large as 100 individuals, but usually live in groups of 10–20 individuals. Adult capybaras grow up to 134 cm (4.40 ft) in length, stand 50 to 62 cm (20 to 24 in) tall at the withers, and typically weigh 35 to 66 kg (77 to 146 lb).

The 30th of October 2021 would see world-famous ex-LNER/BR A3 no. '60103, Flying Scotsman' make a visit to Warwickshire via the West Midlands with 'The Railway Touring Company's 'The Stratford Flyer' railtour from Manchester to Stratford-upon-Avon.
We first view the locomotive at Sandwell and Dudley coasting through the station bound for Birmingham New Street. The original plan was to go to Coseley, but I, at the last minute, changed my mind and chose this location instead.
Our second and final view of the locomotive is at Dorridge, where we see it and the coaching stock passing through on the goods line towards Bentley Heath to fuel up with water for the return trip up north.
I had planned to see the locomotive later on the Sutton Park line as it headed back north, but the railtour was running earlier than anticipated, and I couldn't get to the location I wanted in time.
I am aware that 'Duchess of Sutherland' was also making moves around the Midlands on the day as well, but I couldn't schedule it so that I could film both locomotives, otherwise, I would've featured both. But overall, it was a good day out and always nice to see this locomotive out and about on the network.

The Northern tent caterpillar (Malacosoma californicum pluviale) is a native North American insect. It occurs throughout the southern half of British Columbia, extending as far east as Quebec.
In the United States, it is found west of the Cascade Mountains, through Washington and South to Oregon, plus northern Idaho, western Montana and several northeastern states also. It turns eventually into a moth of stout bodied with a wingspan of 25-37 mm and a one year lifespan.

The Rook (Corvus frugilegus), is a sociable member of the Corvidae family with a white featherless area on the face. It weighs up to 530g and are found in large flocks mixed often with Jackdaws.

Immersify is a European research project that started in October 2017, connecting the Ars Electronica Futurelab with four partners from all over Europe (PSNC – Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center, Spin Digital Video Technologies GmbH, Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes and Visualization Center C). In order to create media that is as immersive as possible, the expertise of the partners is diverse and includes video codecs, infrastructure, film distribution and high resolution displays. The project, situated right at the intersection of artistic vision, scientific research and technological development, is set to continue until 2020.

Incêndio atinge comunidades do Bode e Beira Rio, no Pina

Um incêndio tomou conta das palafitas das comunidades do Bode e da Beira Rio, no bairro do Pina, Zona Sul do Recife. Segundo informações dos moradores, o fogo teria começado por volta das 17h desta segunda-feira (19). As chamas foram controladas por volta das 20h e a Coordenadoria de Defesa Civil do Recife (Codecir) está no local para fazer a contagem dos desabrigados.
Ainda de acordo com os residentes do local, o Corpo de Bombeiros (CB) só teria chegado à área atingida duas horas depois, quando as chamas já haviam tomado conta das casas.
Segundo informações dos moradores, praticamente todas as casas, cerca de 350, foram atingidas. Poucas pessoas conseguiram salvar seus pertences das palafitas. Muitos ficaram apenas com a roupa do corpo e, ainda assim, ajudaram a apagar o fogo com baldes.
