Here we see a Male Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis), a passerine also known as the European Goldfinch. It is native to Europe, North Africa and Western to Central Asia and can weigh up to 19g. It has a stable population and is seen often on bird feeders in UK gardens.

Here we see a pair of Mallard Ducklings which are often hatched between March and July. Mallards are dabbling ducks which breed all over temperate and sub tropical Americas, Eurasia and North Africa as well as New zealand and a host of other territories.

Belonging to the waterfowl family, the males or drakes are particularly beautiful with glossy green heads and bright yellow beaks.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Nineteen metres at 11:29am on Wednesday 6th September 2023 off Hoe Road, looking past the inlet where paddle boarders exity to the water and Drake's Island, a 6.5 acre island in Plymouth.

The Island formed 400 million years ago from fossilised marine creatures which became Devonshire limestone. Volcanic ash 100 million years later fused with the limestone to create the rock. In 1135 it was first noted with a chapel and a building under the reign of Henry I. It has served as a hideaway, a fortress and had guns installed by 1860.

The island eventually was sold off to private owners, twice and is now a tourist attraction.

Photograph taken at 11:36am on Monday 3rd March 2025 at an altitude of Fifty four metres in the Grounds of Warnham Nature Reserve in Horsham, West Sussex. The Millpond dates back to the 16th Century and parts of the woodland dates back even further to the 13th Century. A beautiful location for a walk, or to sit amongst nature and so see birds and butterflies in their natural habitat.

The Great tit (Parus major) is a small passerine bird in the tit family Paridae. It is a widespread and common species throughout Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia. This is the largest UK tit with a distinctive two-syllable song. It has a green and yellow body and a striking glossy black head with white cheeks.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Zero metres (Sea level) at 19:06pm on Wednesday 17th May 2023 on an unamed and uninhabited by mankind wilderness, some distance from Dawley Passage Provincial Park and Meares Island in the Alberni-Clayoquot region of British Columbia in Canada.

I was stationed in a seventy year old house I was renting in Campbell Street, Tofino in British Columbia in Canada and booked a place on a twenty three feet long Zodiac inflatable in full life saving gear with Remote Passages Marine Excursions at 51 Wharf Street in Tofino.

This is a magnifcicent full grown adult American Black Bear (Ursus Americanus), medium sized bears native to North America, and found in abundance in the Yukon territory and Alaska and remote island in British Columbia such as this. Black bears have a small tail, up to nine inches long foot length and males can weigh up to 250kgs. They have poor long distance vision but excellent smell, and this adult knew we were away in the water before we ever saw it.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Two hundred and thirty nine metres at 15.17pm on Tuesday May 7th 2024 off South Street in Rhayader, Mid-Wales from the Low level professional photography hide at Gigrin Farm feeding station.

The Red Kite (Milvus Milvus) is a medium sized bird of prey (Raptor) in the Accipitridae family, and was saved from national extinction by a long running protection programme. It has now been successfully re-introduced into England and Scotland, and Wales, and they are listed under schedule 1 of the Wildlife and Countryside act, currently with a green status.

They can reach 66cms in length with up to a 195cms wingspan, and there around 4,600 breeding pairs in the UK in 2024.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Two metres at 12.19pm on Monday 29th May 2014 off 2903 Ocean Boulevard, Victoria, on the Esquimalt Lagoon Migratory Bird Sanctuary, on the Juan De Fuca Strait, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

The Lagoon is one of seven Migratory Bird Sanctuaries in British Columbia, and an important stopover for birds journeying between North and South America. Visitors include geese and Swans, Bald Eagles and Great Blue Herons, plus many other species of birds.

The Great Blue Heron (Ardea Herodias) is a wading bird in the Heron family Ardeidae and found in North America, Central Ameria, the Caribean and Galapagos Islands. One of the largest of Herons, it has a head to tail length of 01-137 centimtres (36-54 inches) and a wingspan of 187-201 centimtres (66-79 inches). They are found where my family live, and naturally very wary of mankind, flying off as soon as you are within fifty to one hundred yards of them.

Photograph taken at 11:21am on Monday 3rd March 2025 at an altitude of Fifty three metres in the Grounds of Warnham Nature Reserve in Horsham, West Sussex. The Millpond dates back to the 16th Century and parts of the woodland dates back even further to the 13th Century. A beautiful location for a walk, or to sit amongst nature and so see birds and butterflies in their natural habitat.

Here we see two male and one female Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos), relaxing in the morning sun beside the lake water's edge. Mallards are dabbling ducks which breed all over temperate and sub tropical Americas, Eurasia and North Africa as well as New Zealand and a host of other territories. Belonging to the waterfowl family, the males or drakes are particularly beautiful with glossy green heads and bright yellow beaks.

The TV's on the back of seats in this Delta Flight 1861 from Boston, MA to Atlanta, GA leaving at 12:10 on a Boeing 757. Yes, as always, I was sitting with the rest of the bourgeois in first class. As you can see when the system boots up.. it's running LINUX! Now the question is... how did they license those video CODECS? Also as a note, each seat came with a USB charging port, a 110V outlet and what appeared to be gigabit ethernet networking!

Interestingly enough the fight attendants interrupted our ground service so they could switch on the TVs so we could watch the inauguration. Normally the TV's just display marketing content while on the ground and are switched on after takeoff.

The Great Blue Heron (Ardea Herodias) is a wading bird in the Heron family Ardeidae and found in North America, Central Ameria, the Caribean and Galapagos Islands. One of the largest of Herons, it has a head to tail length of 01-137 centimtres (36-54 inches) and a wingspan of 187-201 centimtres (66-79 inches). They are found where my family live, and naturally very wary of mankind, flying off as soon as you are within fifty to one hundred yards of them.

Summer Solstice Hail Longest Day Of the Year 2009 Munich Germany by Nyc Labrets

Today is the Solstice, the First Day of Summer and the longest day of the year, here in Munich, Germany and everywhere else in the Northern Hemisphere.

Just to prove that Global Warming is a myth and nothing more than a pack of pernicious lies, we just had us a nice little Hail Storm as you can see here.

Shot with the Canon PowerShot SX 1 Full HD cam @ 1920 x1080, Wide Screen, with zoom set to 2x.

Original file was 450 megabytes and then transcoded down to 38 megabytes using Quicktime Pro, first passing it through the Apple TV default settings and then transcoded again using the Divx codecs.

This makes this file about less than 7% of the size of the original, while still maintaining enough quality for it to be posted here.

I know that Flickr doesn't want to turn itself into YouTube, but I wonder about the size/time limits here.

I'm OK with the 500 megabyte limit for video, but not so much with the 90 second limit.

Using this simple method I can produce a video that is almost 20 minutes in length, so why shouldn't anyone be allowed to post videos that length if they fall under the size limit?

After all they won't be taking up any more space on the servers.

Just a thought.

Photograph taken at 11.34am on Saturday 6th April 2-24 off Chessington Avenue in my garden on an overcast and blustery morning.

Here we see a surprise visit and a very welcome one from a Male Ring Ouzel (Turdus torquatus), on the red endangered species list sadly. The brown coloured female had been in the garden moments earlier, and this male with darker plumage followed, listening for worms before a resident Magpie saw it off.

Ring Ouzels are smaller and slimmer than a Blackbird. Males have distinctive black plumage with a pale wing panel and striking white breast band. The Ring Ouzel is mostly an upland bird, where it breeds in steep sided-valleys, crags and gullies, from near sea level in the far north of Scotland up to 1,200m in the Cairngorms. Breeding begins in mid-April and continues through to mid-July, with two broods common. Nests are located on or close to the ground in vegetation (typically in heather), in a crevice, or sometimes in a tree.

Storm Kathleen, I believe meant a slight diversion for the pair prior to heading up towards Scotland to nest and breed.

HDCAM videotape by MARKIE MARK11

HDCAM, introduced in 1997, is a high-definition video digital recording videocassette version of digital Betacam, using an 8-bit discrete cosine transform (DCT) compressed 3:1:1 recording, in 1080i-compatible down-sampled resolution of 1440×1080, and adding 24p and 23.976 progressive segmented frame (PsF) modes to later models. The HDCAM codec uses rectangular pixels and as such the recorded 1440×1080 content is upsampled to 1920×1080 on playback. The recorded video bit rate is 144 Mbit/s. Audio is also similar, with four channels of AES3 20-bit, 48 kHz digital audio.

Like Betacam, HDCAM tapes are produced in small and large cassette sizes; the small cassette uses the same form factor as the original Betamax.

The main competitor to HDCAM is the DVCPRO HD format offered by Panasonic. It uses a similar compression scheme and bit rates ranging from 40 Mbit/s to 100 Mbit/s depending on frame rate. Well,what a fantastic video format this is,chances are if you were watching tv today, some of the programmes may well have been in this format.

ɪt would most certainly be my first choice for any kind of filmout,be it 35mm or today and more appropriately 70mm flat 2.2;0.but for 24fps cine output the recorders frame rate should be set to 24fps in the process of both recording and playback feeding,an rs- 422 - sony bvw-75 protocol subset / db9 connector lead of male variety should remotely control things.

with the main connections traditionally set as [hd/sdi bnc in] and [hd/sdi bnc out] this is one way of dealing with the image path,on sound, analog channels 1 and 2 ,which is xlr x 2 leads 8 connections, always does it for me,don,t forget the composite monitor which would prove useful,and monitor audio.

So only by the more recent and superior hdcam sr is an improvement noticable ,a format which also dominates much of the media world.

ɪ purchased this cassette from an ebay seller for 7 pounds,who just happened to be a well known broadcast production company.

As with the earlier digital betacam, lossless digital copies can be made,this can also be useful when performing linear editing.

this cassette is of the small variety ,intended for placement into an hdcam camcorder,however its use furthers itself to the player/editor/recorder/feeders as they accept both small and large form configurations,with some help from an adjustable internal mechanism.

This format is used regularly today in camcorders used by the bbc and itv news, for electronic news gathering or [eng] for short,you will often see the ''hdvs'' logo on a broadcast camcorders viewfinder exterior when watching multi-covered events,which is one seeing another.

Another widespread meaning of its use is the manipulation between professional programme makers and television commissioning,where broadcasting stations accept the material to be aired from the production companies who made it,two identical cassettes will be supplied ,the second is an identical clone, should there be a problem with the first,normally after a problem is corrected a double dose of tapes is sent back in for their check over.

commissioning will ask that certain technical parameters have been adhered to,ie,a particular luminance,and well crafted sound levels,etc.

Milky Way Transit

A brief video of the Milky Way moving across the night sky of the southern Everglades. 216 20sec exposures taken over a period of 74 minutes from 11:44 to 12:58 on May 28/29 were used to create this sequence. The sky is full of motion. Several airplanes as well as a small cloud bank move through. The brief flashes on the tree are a result of a car that drove by about a hundred yards behind me and a couple of inadvertent illuminations from my small LED flashlight as I walked around the area during the filming. Basically I set the camera on automatic to take the sequential 20 second exposures. As it did so, I explored the immediate area.

This photograph was taken at an altitude of Forty eight metres at 11:43am on a cold and wintry morning, on December 12th 2022, following overnight snow and a temperature of -3 degrees, off Chessington Avenue in Bexleyheath, Kent. Here we see a Black-headed gull (Chroicocephalus ridibundus), in flight across a snowy December sky.

They are found in much of the Palearctic including Canada and Europe. In Canada it is called the Common black-headed gull.

Tascam DR-07MKII by proaal

TASCAM’s DR-07mkII improves on one of the best-selling portable recorders ever with adjustable microphones, clear sound quality and a great new design. The stereo recorder features a pair of adjustable condenser microphones. The built-in cardioid pattern mics can be moved from an XY position, for tight imaging, to an AB position, for a wider ambient sound. Choose the best sound depending on the source and environment.

Superior Sound Quality:

The sound of the DR-07mkII reflects over 30 years of TASCAM’s recording experience. A separate power supply for the codec enables the full capabilities of the A/D and D/A converter, and separate analog & digital circuit boards and low impedance circuit design reduce noise in the design. The DR-07mkII records to microSD or microSDHC media, recording in MP3 or WAV (BWF) file format at up to 96kHz/24-bit resolution.

The 1/8” mic/line input allows you to plug in your own microphones and can supply plug-in power for mics that need it. The Level Align function prevents uneven volume levels during playback through the 1/8” headphone output or built-in speaker. Advanced Recording Features:

Sharing some features with the new DR-05, the DR-07mkII makes recording simple enough for any musician. The Peak reduction function sets the optimum recording level even in recording to avoid the over level. Quick Menu selects commonly used parameters in playback or record like auto level setting or limiting, while deeper settings are available through a full-featured setup menu.

Some DR-07mkII features that aren’t found on the DR-05 include Overdub mode, which records over your previous take but keeps a copy of the original. The portable recorder also includes Auto Record and Auto Mark settings for hands-off operation. A reverb effect is also provided to give your recordings that mastered polish.
