Playing around with another cold process soap. I've been wanting to try adding pumpkin to the soap and I've been wanting to attempt a swirl....We shall see how both of these turn out tomorrow. This soap came to gel stage very quickly, I'm guessing this particular fragrance oil helped to speed up the whole process.
My recipe was for four pounds of oils, so I figured a four pound loaf mold would work fine..so that's all I had lined. After pouring and swirling that one, I had to do a very quick emergency lining on my one pound mold and get the last bits of soap poured into that before it started to set up. Lesson learned, I know better than to use a new untested recipe without having some form of back-up mold on stand-by.

Kokosolja kallpressas ifrån kokosnöten och har svag smak av kokos. Den innehåller laurinsyra som i kroppen omvandlas till monolaurin. Den innehåller även kaprylsyra. Monolaurin används av kroppens immunförsvar. Både laurinsyran och kaprylsyra har antibakteriella egenskaper. Laurinsyra kan även skydda mot svampinfektioner och tarmparasiter. Kaprylsyra tillför syra till tarmen vilket gynnar tillväxten av goda tarmbakterier, speciellt mjölksyrabakterier. Energin i kokosoljan omsätts däremot snabbt i kroppen, vilket gör att kroppen hellre förbränner fettet än att lagra det. Det är det bästa fettet att använda i matlagning eftersom kokosfettet är stabilt även vid höga temperaturer.

Decided to try my hand at making soap (ok, I got the idea in my head a few weeks ago and have been obsessing about it since). This is my first batch ever! Fingers crossed it turns out ok. It's currently sitting wrapped in a towel on the counter. I'll be able to unmold it in a day or two! Woooo!
The soap is in Gel Stage now! Wooooo! I was a bit concerned because it hadn't gone to gel, but I decided to have a little peek and did a happy dance!

Made with wholesome ingredients and a lot of love, for my coworkers on Sunday morning, inventory day. I thought I would bring a treat to get our day started right!
Ingredients include: a big loaf of organic raisin & cinnamon bread from Farrell's, turbinado sugar (aka "sugar in the raw") & pure maple syrup, fresh eggs, coconut milk and organic whole milk, extra virgin coconut oil and butter, and a special sauce made with butterscotch schnapps. :)

Why coconut oil?
This was Benita's (and mine?) first attempt at making soap. The process was interesting but this result is just plain ugly. If there is anyone with any soap-making experience looking at this (and laughing) please comment on what went wrong. See our blog for more info.
This was a small batch of Olive Oil, Crisco and Coconut Oil soap. We didn't put enough essential oils in for smell, so the whole batch just smells like soap. After it sat for 24 hours we re-melted it and poured it again because it hadn't firmed up enough. The only thing I KNOW we did wrong was to not use Distilled Water (that we bought especially for this project). She hand-stirred so it took a long time to trace. I'm not sure that either one of us knows what a good trace looks like.
Heat and blend your oils, I like only extra virgin olive oil and expellier pressed coconut oils, Yum!
