After lunch in Decatur we found our way to Peterson which was located on the old NKP/N&W Cloverleaf District. I found this abandoned bridge next to Peterson Grain Co. which was a customer when the line was still operating.

Watco subsidiary Decatur and Eastern Illinois (DREI) initiated operations in September 2018 with the purchase of the CSX (ex-B&O) Decatur Subdivision and Danville Secondary Subdivision, connecting Decatur, Illinois and Terre Haute, Indiana. In December 2019, the railroad expanded by acquiring the Eastern Illinois Railroad (EIRC), consisting of approximately 56-miles of the former Nickel Plate Cloverleaf line between Neoga and Metcalf. The two lines are connected at Metcalf, forming a “V” pointed to the north east.
While catching EIRC action was always challenging at best, the DREI seems to have upped the ante, and scenes like this seem to have become more common. The crew of DREI (WAMX) GP38-2 3896 (ex-SOU 5020) helps load a cut of hoppers at the Total Grain Marketing elevators in Neoga.

Double exposure with a candle and a cloverleaf. This picture I have taken with a multiple exposure app of my Sony Alpha 7II. I developed the raw picture with Darktable and make some corrections with Digikam. HMM!

After lunch in Kokomo we ventured out to West Middleton to see if the former Cloverleaf/NKP/N&W bridge over a county road & Little Wildcat Creek was still standing. It was and with much better skies than my first shot years ago, a re-shoot was in order.

Near Logansport, Ind.
Winter has been gray and dreary, but I found a website devoted to historic bridges, many of which are close-by... And I have set out to photograph those within reach. This one is called the Denniston Bridge, and it carries County Road 440(W) across the Eel River. It was built in 1883. The cloverleaf cutouts appear to have been made using a torch. The entire affair seems almost delicate in person. It is still in use, although it gets little traffic.
