The approach of a late summer storm adds to the forlorn look of a once thriving barn that now sports stripped studs, overgrown greenery and serves as a perch for pigeons who weren't around during the busy days. Trying to stay relevant in a new, fast-paced world often finds many older people longing for simpler times.
I might have been taking a quick nap yesterday when I heard a continuous tapping on our patio door. It was a strange sound it but by the time I emerged from our bedroom, I quickly caught sight of the culprit.
My companion of over 51 years has unleashed a couple of red-headed monsters in our townhouse commons. Two, sometimes three, of these sand hill cranes spend most late mornings foraging around her bird seed buffet and water dish.
That's not a problem in and of itself, but what does present some challenges is when they deplete what she has put out. They make a beeline for our patio door and "knock" on it as they ask for more.
This shot was taken about 3 feet away from inside as the crane as it did its best imitation of Clara Peller's famous cry.
(If you don't know who Clara was, google it if you are too young to know.)

With a deserted barn in the background, a rusted old car hitched to a pleasure boat sits hub deep in grass, remaining in place until its loaded up and taken to a junkyard. My father was a workaholic, rarely taking us kids for anything resembling a vacation. Never one to crush our hopes, he always mentioned "next week".

During a return journey from the Dingle peninsula we suddenly saw this amazing cloud with a rainbow shining shortly on the famous La Inch beach. Unfortunately no chance for us to stop longer on the full street. This is a snapshot from a short stop out of the car.

Day is done, gone the sun,; From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;; All is well, safely rest;; God is nigh.
Now if you recognise these words, you too will be outed as once belonging to the Girl Guides. :)
