10 minutes after sunset, Trent River, New Bern, North Carolina on a warm December evening. I was with several hundred people on the waterfront getting ready to watch a Christmas flotilla...and we were all shocked by this spectacular sunset.

Taken at Greenhill Lake near Ararat in Victoria on a very cold morning (around minus 4 C.).

Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!

This was a calm, yet stormy afternoon in Port Germein where small storms slowly developed but passed over quickly. I was mesmerised by the slow tidal movement over the sandflats half way along the Port Germein jetty. The crescent shaped bars of sand would quickly be swallowed up by the slight inward moving ripples which seemed to come in small sets. It is one of those places where despite having a fairly small tidal range, you can see the tidal movement as it creeps slowly in. It was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon!

This panorama was taken at the viewing point for Akureyri on the other side of the fjord Eyjafjörður. It was a morning that promised poor weather but in fact one hour later it was one of the finest days we had in Iceland, following the icelandic word: If you don't like the weather just wait five minutes!

The pano is stitched from 8 single shots.

This is one of the reasons tourists flock to Lake Tyrrell-known as Sky Mirror.

On the first morning we arrived, we did a sunrise tour with the Julie from www.sealaketyrrelltours.com.au/. She was recommended by a lovely friend who has photographed the lake and area over many years and written a beautiful book Lake Tyrrell An ever-changing Landscape

As we left our cabin at 5:30, we could see the clouds in the west were already showing hints of red. A good sign. A small number of tourists joined us and by the time we got to the part of the Lake Julie has access too, the sky began to turn red.

This is one of the tourists posing for Julie.

"But tell me, did you sail across the sun?

Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded

And that Heaven is overrated?

Tell me, did you fall for a shooting star?

One without a permanent scar and did you miss me

While you were looking for yourself out there?" Train 2009

Sunrise at Lake Tyrrell.

Sometimes the 5 am starts are worth it. The morning before was raging red, almost too much. I know the couple of tourists were disappointed they didn't get the red we got the morning before. But sometimes its the subtle that seeps into the soul.

Mary's Shell was originally delivered to Cleveleys on Friday 13 September 2013 and spent a couple of weeks perched on a trailer on the shingle beach, awaiting transportation to it's final spot on the sand.

Friday 13th September turned out to be an unfortunate choice of day - it was intended to be the day of installation but because of problems with the crane that was brought to site to do the lift, which wasn't suitable for use on the sand, the installation couldn't take place as planned.

Everything went well for the second date of 25th September, and the Shell was positioned on the beach

The day we arrived at Sea Lake, we were shown some amazing images of the Southern Aurora take from the platform at Lake Tyrrell. We were hoping it would re-appear but that wasn't to be.

However, on one of the nights when the rain stopped just before sunset, along with another storm front and some rainbows, something freaky happened to the sky.

I now know these are anticrepuscular or antisolar rays which converge in the opposite direction to crepuslcular rays. The rays appear to converge towards the antisolar point, the point on the sky sphere directly opposite the sun.

Not the aurora but pretty spectacular.

I probably wont get to comment on your images sorry as I am feeling unwell again. Hoping just a temporary set back.

I still have images from my Sea Lake trip hanging around. I really having been doing much photography at all of late so I am delving into the archives.

Staring at the sunset, babe

Red lips and rosy cheeks

Say you'll see me again

Even if it's just in your wildest dreams, ah-ha

Everybody wants to have a home

Don't make no difference what nobody says

Ain't nobody like to be alone"

Bruce Springsteen. He wrote this song for the Ramones after seeing them play. When they heard the song they said "Nah-you better keep it". It certainly was a keeper for The Boss.

Doctors should prescribe views like this - much better for you and more effective than blood pressure pills!

I still have a few images from my trip to Lake Tyrell in November 2021.

I did post one of this old grader that sits several kilometers out from the shore of Lake Tyrell. It has been stranded there for almost 30 years, slowly rustling away.

"Rust Never Sleeps" is of course the title from Neil Young's Classic album Some consider the term to be a metaphor for artistic vitality. E.g. by staying the same, one is vulnerable to the corrosive effects of aging and obsolescence.

That works for me.

A shot of a storm taken at sunset from last summer, that missed us, but gave us a wonderful view of the setting sun lighting up the high cloud tops.

At first, I thought this was a UFO, but I soon realised it was just an airliner coming into Adelaide Airport from the west. The very bright landing lights came on a long way out and made for an interesting sight in the last of the sunset, looking across a very calm St. Vincent Gulf. Taken from Brighton Beach in Adelaide.

Maluha (Peace in Hawaiian)

Peace, quiet, security, tranquillity, serenity; safety; solemn awe and stillness that reigned during some of the ancient taboo ceremonies; peaceful, restful.

Taken at Sandy Beach Oahu Hawaii.

I still think it will be quite some time till I am able to visit a beach (which breaks my heart just a little!) so will have to excavate past images to get my fix. I can't even imagine what the crowds would be like now with the new freedoms we have.

“There is freedom waiting for you,

On the breezes of the sky,

And you ask "What if I fall?"

Oh but my darling,

What if you fly?”

Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!

Have a great day and thank you for visiting!

A break from Tassie to the beach- Dragon Head rock, Rye Victoria.

The late afternoon was cloudy and grey though not totally flat.

-Will there or wont there be a sunset? That was the most discussed question of the afternoon (or course there is always sunset but will it be a colourful one!. The sunset App said -overcast-forget it)

When we arrived at our destination, two groups of photographers had taken up prime position around the dragon. This limited composition somewhat but they were pretty obliging.

The sun was setting to the right of the dragon and as the sun began to drop towards the sea, there was a band of some lovely colour, just not in the right place!

I am not totally happy with this but because it is my birthday and I am feeling pretty blah this morning, I wanted to post some colour.
