The colors appeared about ten minutes after the sun went down and lasted only a few minutes. A beautiful end to a typically gray March day in Wisconsin. Photographed in Goose Island Park, La Crosse County.

From Trewethet Farm caravan site near Tintagel North Cornwall, late afternoon.

This is perhaps my favorite old barn in our area. It was lovingly restored by a family member who moved back to the "home place." The original restoration included a cedar shake roof. Unfortunately a few years later a tornado took part of the roof and due to financial and labor considerations, it had to be replaced with the steel roof. But it still stands proudly.

Hand held, the almost full moon from last night.

This is the view of Lismore Lighthouse from Duart Castle on the Isle of Mull, Scotland built in 1833.

My appreciation and awe of lighthouses and those who once operated them has grown so much since listening to the "Get Sleepy" stories about lighthouse keepers, particularly Brave Women of the Lighthouses.

They really were remarkable people, often living very isolated lives, and facing many hardships for very little pay. For example, jobs included tending the light: filling the lamp with oil at sundown and again at midnight, trimming the wick, polishing carbon off the reflectors, and extinguishing the light at dawn.

One of the most famous was Ida Lewis She tended the Lime Rock Lighthouse in Rhode Island for 54 years, first with her parents starting at age 15 in 1857 and then as official keeper starting in 1879 until her death in 1911. She was a strong swimmer and rower (considered very unladylike) and rescued 18 people during her time as keeper, the last when she was 63. She was adored by the country and the bells of all the vessels in Newport Harbor tolled for her that night she died, and flags were at half-staff throughout Newport.

so I digressed alittle ;-)

Maybe I am just seeing things. Maybe I watch too many Star Wars movies - I had just watched all of the old Star Wars collection before coming on this trip.

All I could see here was Jabba the Hutt.

Taken from my usual position on the deck of our cabin, on the edge of the Murray River in Mannum on a wonderfully stormy afternoon.

A few nights ago, this sudden late glow appeared on the horizon after we had thought it was going to be another dull cloudy sundown. The colour lingered for ages until lights took over and stars appeared.

The title is from a poem by John Brainard called Clouds.

On our evening walks I don't take my camera but I do take my phone-just in case...

After the storms yesterday, the light was beautiful and there was a double rainbow. Of course I wished for my trusty Nikon but the there appears to be a very grey area about whether or not you are allowed to do photography while exercising. Anyway, got me to think that I should add phone images to my 10 x 10 100 challenge. So here is No. 1.

I was almost home when I looked up and saw the flock of Ibis (I think) flying directly above in the gorgeous fluffy clouds blushing pink with the sunset. It was such a beautiful sight.

Although the winds were blowing quit hard this image still shows the amount of camas lilies on the Camas. Doubly impressive is the storm rolling in.

A May sunset from 2 years ago.

I spotted this view at midday a few days ago, and decided to come back when the sun was setting. Last evening was the day. I was a little disappointed that the sun wasn't exactly where I hoped it would be. But the two Jersey cows were an added bonus. Let's call it even!

Stopped on the way to work to compose this beautiful sunrise pano reflecting off the water. Hope you enjoy it.

The rolling hills of Iowa just before sunrise on an early fall morning.

Another morning at Mannum on the Murray River, and another wonderfully different sunrise! The trees on the distant horizon made an amazing silhouette as the sun popped up.

Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!

This was the scene about 3 months ago, but we have had plenty of similar days this entire spring.

A coastal scene taken looking toward Middle Island (left) and Merri Island (right) on the south coast of Warrnambool in Victoria.

In actual fact, it was quite windy and the waves were very choppy, but the 10 stop ND filter did its thing and calmed everything down.

On the left island, there are a small number of black faced cormorants who were very cooperative in staying still! They will feature in the next shot which I took while this long exposure was happening.

The first sunset of 2025. Today, two days later, we have much colder temperatures and the ground is covered with snow. January in Iowa. HFF

I finally got out with the camera again for the first time since my hip replacement surgery at the end of October. The hip is doing very well, the weather conditions were good, and there was an interesting sunset. I had to go out!

As I drive the back roads in our rural area, I'm surprised at how many of these old wooden corn cribs are still standing. Modern harvesting machines pick and shell the corn in one operation so storing corn on the ear is no longer needed. But resourceful farmers have repurposed the cribs for other farm storage.

Along Ladybower Reservoir from the dam.

Decided to go for a walk by myself while waiting for my better half. This time I took a differnt route to one I usually take and walked from Ġnien Il-Ġibjun, down toward the sea and then towards Wied il-Bassasa.

Just bumped up curves in Gimp.

Waves crashing during high tide during a really nice sunrise!

A classic October sky in the Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge in western Wisconsin. Three exposures combined in Aurora HDR.

Taking the air and exercise on the beach at Formby. Whilst the carparks were full, plenty of room for maintaining separation from others!
