A rare high altitude short-lived (15 minutes) formation of streaming downward convection similar to the ring vortex formations seen when cold colored ink is dropped into slightly warmed water. The field of view is about 10 degrees. The descent is reminiscent of the formation of cirrocumulus mammatus but is more rapid and extensive. Cirrus virga is more normally ice cloud streaks and not supercooled water droplet cloud as here.
