Some heavy clouds started to clear up late this morning and I got this exposure while running errands in the city. I wanted to get an architecture shot in the Back Bay, but I couldn't find parking. Realizing the conditions were fleeting, I cruised over to Memorial Drive where I easily got a spot in front of the MIT sailing pavilion. All I had to do was walk 20 feet to set up, which makes this spot a beautiful thing.

The wind was gusting at an insane speed and the lighting from directly above wasn't ideal, but it ended up giving this image an interesting look. This was an exposure where the sun only came out for 20 secs at the end and gave a nice brilliance to the very dark choppy water. Right after I got this exposure, a team of sailors came out and lifted all the boats into the water. While this was happening, the sky clouded over and it started sprinkling, so the timing couldn't have been better.

Conditions were looking decent this morning as I passed through so I stopped off for a few exposures. It was nice to roll through well after sunrise for a slightly different take.

I took this same angle back in August last year. I found myself in the area yesterday and the clouds were looking nice, so naturally I took another stab at it. This time much wider as now my filter system allows.

As it was full moon I stayed local again and went to this house i've been meaning to go to for a while now.

Apparently an insurance scam gone wrong, a guy burnt down his own house for the insurance and they wouldn't pay out.

Now I believe it has been sold off at auction, bought by a developer, it will be knocked down and a few new houses to be built in its place, such a shame people get greedy.

I've been meaning to get back here for a more aggressive angle of the John Hancock with some cloud movement. This was a crucial exposure because the sun was directly in the frame (top left) and catching the tail end of this cloud bank allowed me to get some blue sky with the sun covered. I got 5 or 6 exposures before I got kicked out by security, I had no problem leaving because I knew already I got the shot. This one was super difficult to get lined up properly in a sea of people waiting to cross the street.

Another shot from Whitburn Saturday mornings sunrise.

went to the glass centre today after work with my ten stop filter .

I tried to shoot the friday night fireworks show that was supposed to start at 8:00 but I got there at 7:45 and it had started already. So I had to settle for a shot of their pond with reflections.

Sunrise at Spelga Reservoir from Sunday morning. Spelga Reservoir sits in the Mourne Mountains in County Down.

On Saturday afternoon I decided to go camping and ended up in County Down. We thought beside the reservoir would be the perfect spot. We went ahead and set the tent up and then headed off for some shots and returned about 9.00pm and got ourselves settled for the night or so we thought.

The wind picked up and got that bad that the pegs started to come out of the ground and looked like the tent was going to be ripped from the ground. We decided to pack things up and slept in the car. It wasn't the best idea but when I woke up the next morning I woke to this stunning view. This is 16 images stitched together

Last night was one of those evenings where the sky looked better in the east than in the west.

This one has been on my list for awhile and finally got to it the other day. It was the usual deal where the clouds were about to disappear so I had limited time to line something up and execute. The brutal thing was how far away I had to park to get there. I feel like I will probably go back at some point for a slightly different vantage point, but I caught the only clouds of the day with the lighting on this part of the facade (which was my original intention). It was really tough to shade the filter assembly without interrupting the image.

On a moon lit night, I photographed Yosemite Falls as storm clouds streaked by. The starry sky can be seen through the moving clouds as the entire landscape is reflected in a flooded meadow in Yosemite Valley.

With the state of California (and others) experiencing extreme drought conditions, I wonder about many things, including what spring will be like this year in Yosemite Valley. How long will the waterfalls run before they dry up?

There was one nice set of clouds when I observed this angle, and I had a nice tucked away spot to get centered. So I slapped everything together to get this one exposure. The shadow on the left was cast by the Hancock Tower.

I took many exposures of this building with clouds passing a few months back, and one of those I already posted in color flic.kr/p/m7ymWd. Thought it would be cool to revisit one of the other exposures and do a silver and black treatment in 16 x 9 format. This is the new Education First building right off North Bank Bridge.

I've had this building on my list ever since I figured out it had a cool courtyard detail in the back. I finally got around to it yesterday, but I couldn't quite shoot it as I had planned. I had wanted to take it from across the street but a tree was just enough in the way I had to take it from the sidewalk directly in front. The problem was I really needed to be in the street but with cars moving in and out of the spots I had to go as close to the street as possible on the sidewalk. After a couple frames a construction vehicle pulled in and basically blocked me off from the camera, so I ended up finishing off the frames reaching over the fender from the side and I couldn't see the results until I got back to my car. I probably could have squared this up better if I had more time to analyze results and make adjustments, but considering the circumstances I'm lucky I got anything at all.

I was driving home on Route One and the conditions were looking really nice. I thought of this angle, which I had been planning to reshoot for some time, but I didn't think I had time to make it down there before sunset. I almost didn't take the last exit before the bridge, but at the last minute I swung into and decided to go for it. In a hurry, I battled traffic down to Mary O'Malley Park and practically jumped out of the car while it was still moving. Started sprinting from there down the shore while judging the best angle. Slapped the gear together and threw on the filters just in time to get this exposure with peak lighting. At the end of the exposure the sun fully dipped and the light disappeared, so I ended up being in and out in less than 15 minutes. This is pretty much straight out of the camera with just some minor tweaks.

I've been watching them build this modern residential tower in East Cambridge on my drives over the Leverett Circle Connector Bridge. Ever since they finished the facade I've been meaning to get over there on a good cloud day, and today ended up being that day. Took a walk around the building and decided to go front on with the entrance. Someone from the building came out and asked me what I was doing, once I explained what I was doing they let it ride and I was able to hang out until the best batch of clouds came through.

A couple months back I took a series of exposures of the Hancock tower under ideal fair weather conditions with cumulous clouds cruising by, and out of the set, I had taken two back to back exposures that were very hard to choose from. At the time I picked the one that I thought looked the best in color, because that was what I was after, but after revisiting the other exposure today I realized it could be a much stronger piece with processing using Silver Efex Pro plugin for Photoshop. You can see the color version here which was the first frame flic.kr/p/ntdLyF

I took this a little after sunrise, the conditions were really interesting. There were a lot of low flying clouds really cruising that were very fog like. I figured I would do the dragon boats for the first time this season because of the angle and the river was pretty calm between wind gusts. So after many attempts, this was the best I could do to get still boats for this exposure length.
