The three little kittens... these little guys were fun to create. So cute that I don't want them to go with the cake... hehehe.
I was out front mowing my lawn and I noticed several of these wasps around. Two were fighting (?) and another was gathering grass clippings. I went in and got a container intending to trap the two that were fighting. I didn't see them anymore but I saw one flying around with a Conehead grasshopper. I managed to capture it. I chilled it in the fridge and then took it outside to grab a few shots before it recovered. Here they are. I'm not sure of the species. I had at first thought they might be Cicada Killers but they are not.
Selbstmörder (1916)
George Grosz
Grosz was among the leasding 'verists' whose realist style was developed for satirical and political effect. Determined to expose the corrupt nature of society, he actively opposed the military, the church and the middle classes. In this scathing vision, suicide is presented as the symptom of a broader social collapse. Following a nervous breakdown at the front, Grosz became involved with the Berlin dada group and joined the German Communist Party. 'Today I no longer hate people indiscriminately', he stated in 1924. 'Today I hate their bad institutions and those in power who defend these institutions.'

From Magic Realism: Art in Weimar Germany 1919-33
(July 2018 - July 2019)
Tate Modern will explore German art from between the wars...
This presentation explores the diverse practices of a number of different artists, including Otto Dix, George Grosz, Albert Birkle and Jeanne Mammen. Although the term ‘magic realism’ is today commonly associated with the literature of Latin America, it was inherited from the artist and critic Franz Roh who invented it in 1925 to describe a shift from the art of the expressionist era, towards cold veracity and unsettling imagery. In the context of growing political extremism, the new realism reflected a fluid social experience as well as inner worlds of emotion and magic.

I gave my mom a certificate to sew her another apron for Christmas. She told me she wanted something with birds, so this is what I made her. I found this great Alexander Henry bird fabric called "June Song" for the skirt. I used McCall's Pattern #M5825.
The hot pink circle fabric is Free Spirit Fabric's "Queen Street" and the apple green bib circle fabric is Blue Hill Fabric's "Party Dress".
I added an appliqued bird and some embroidery stitches for the top. I also added some pom poms and ric rac on the pockets.
This has to be one of my most favorite aprons I have made!

The gel medium adds so much cool texture and it is so simple to do it. Just smash your brush down randomly.

The Montreal, Maine & Atlantic's short Stanbridge Subdivision is not in use, as Transport Canada is "restricting movements on the subdivision until the track has been assessed by a professional engineer and the conditions under which a safe movement may occur have been provided". The branch line is in very bad shape, with 100 lb rail, rotting ties, etc. This train, with MMA 8583 and 8 cars is therefore stranded both because of this decision and because their are 2 derailed cars about half a mile north of where this train is stranded (at MP 6.15 of the sub).
The light is terrible this time of year, but here are a few quick photos of Deneb, the 10th Anniversary Dal doll.
Bread Pudding, Close-up - For a special treat on Super Bowl Sunday, I made a bread pudding for the first time, following a Taste of Home recipe and adding a few ingredients. It was a great success and used up all the bread crusts saved from a sandwich project. Highly recommended.
I added cooked raisins into the mix and then sprinkled chopped pecans on top before baking it. The syrup is just sugar, butter, vanilla, salt and nutmeg. If you saw my recent photo of crustless sandwiches for the grandkids, you'll see how I used up all the bread crusts from the bag in this photo: www.flickr.com/photos/cobalt/8440561491/

Not much texture visible, maybe a little on the dirt. At least all the work I did on texturing did pay off on making the grassy sides extend down.
