This was one of my favorite moments from Patagonia — a puma mother calling her cubs in.

First came the call. Then the playful cubs appeared, each with a very different personality. One stayed close to mom, keeping safely by her side. The other was clearly the adventurous one, wandering farther out across the rocks and seeming much more interested in exploring the world on its own terms.

These are the moments wildlife photographers hope for: not just seeing the animal, but witnessing something intimate, natural, and real.

Wicked Wednesday! The wind and the swell eased up (for the day at least) and we had a few very friendly groups of whales moving through the area throughout the day. We experienced a 'mugging' on every trip!

A mugging is when an animal approaches on a boat, taking control of the situation and forcing the boat to sit duck while they move around it. Very cool!

This snap was captured during a 'mugging' late yesterday afternoon while we were in the company of two juveniles. After a period drifting and moving around and under the boat, they sounded and went for a deeper dive, one performing this very high lift of the flukes as it dove.

70mm, no crop! Doesn't happen very often :)

Conditions looked perfect for a colourful sunrise with that all important gap in the clouds on the horizon to allow the sunrise to underlight the clouds. It didn't quite make it with cover just edging over the gap.
